- www.crosstrainingenduro.com How to 'drop' the clutch for good enduro technique.
Into enduro riding? Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. Our dirt riding tips also include wider topics such as the best dirt riding boots. Dropping the clutch to get wheelspin and 'roost' is a favourite when we first start dirt riding as it takes very little skill. But in trials riding, wheelspin is a cardinal sin. And yet trials riders are dropping the clutch all the time. See all our dirt bike videos for dirt riding tips. This controlled dropping of the clutch takes a lot of skill to get maximum drive with minimum wheelspin. And it forms the foundation for many techniques in extreme enduro riding... whether it is jumping gaps, wheelies, pivoting over logs, or jumping up vertical banks. Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and dirt riding techniques. As the front wheel hits the steep face, your suspension will compress which allows you to keep accelerating up the steep bank. This may look easy, but it takes careful balance of the throttle and clutch, which needs to be timed with your weighting of the footpegs. As your body gets higher, this raises your centre of gravity so the bike is more likely to go into a wheelie. So you may need to apply less throttle once your legs are straight. At other times this tendency to wheelie can be handy when tackling a very steep bank or rock face. You need to lift the front wheel to tackle the face, so you can keep accelerating even though your higher centre of gravity is causing the front wheel to lift. As you get better control over the clutch and weighting the pegs, try this controlled dropping the clutch when tackling larger logs and other obstacles. A good basic exercise is to take off on an incline with a slippery surface, such as mud, gravel or dust on a rockface. The trick is to weight the pegs as you release the clutch by straightening your legs. This weight pushes the tyre into the ground and creates more tread contact with the ground.

Drop the clutch, check
Weight the pegs, check
Very little wheel spin, check
Putting it all together, I'll get there eventually
Excelentes consejos que todo endurista debería entrañar para mejorar su técnica y manejo en situaciones difíciles.

Love the disclaimer as much as the practical instruction. Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!

Thank you for this awesome tip!
Now I just need to get out there and prove to myself I'll never master this either😩
We can but try lol

Excellent training vid. Thank you for sharing this! Need to get out there and do some more practice.
Any time!

Thanks Bill, will do!
Great tutorial on how to combine many ingredients into one soup!
Enduro soup!
Nice job. Good how to!
Glad it was helpful!
Can’t wait to try this! Too bad it’s minus 15 Celsius and snow everywhere...
Opposite problem here... too hot to ride most days. At least for us older guys...
Drop it like it's hot!
I used to practice dropping my clutch but had to stop. I kept breaking the fingers off the outer basket when it hit the ground. 😁
You just made me spray my coffee outta my nose & mouth 👍
@@lancecooper4646 Well that's unfortunate! I hope it tasted as good coming out as it did going in!😆
I have had much better success with dropping the clutch since I got a heavy duty rubber mat in the garage, Dave. Doesn't get damaged at all now.
Drop it like it’s hot! 🥵
ah yes this is a good one to learn, should make it much easier getting it into the trailer with no ramp lol. ive had to use that lifting the bike with your knee/thigh trick in the past. i actually learned lifting heavy shit with leverage from your thigh shoveling mud. in the real world upper body strength is useless if you know how to use your legs
Shoveling mud would be a great workout for sure, Eli!
awesome bazza🤣🤣🤣
This may be a dumb question but when you say “drop the clutch” should I still have a finger on the lever as it’s snapping forward or should I actually just let go of it. I ask because I have been keeping a finger on it so far and I’m not sure if my “drop” is quick enough. Thanks for the vids by the way! They have been super helpful as I’ve been getting into enduro riding over the last few months.
Always cover the clutch
Imo You should deff keep your finger (or two) on the clutch just incase.
Like when I drop the clutch for wheelies I still keep 2 fingers on that way not only will the rear brake bring me down if I get too high but pull the clutch in will also bring the front tire back down.
Light rear brake and feather the clutch
That’s what I figured, I guess I just need more practice to figure out the timing and where my engagement point is
It should always be a controlled release Matt.... e.g. never just let it snap out. And we always have one finger on the lever at all times.
Gotcha, thanks for the feedback!
I dropped my clutch in the 80,s...
It's somewhere in the bush.....
Oddly enough, I often find my lost clutch where I also dropped my pants....
@@crosstrainingenduro That's where I found "powerband"
Great vid as always however, needs more guitar.. 😉😉
I've been thinking of buying an electric and a pile of effects and assaulting everyone's ear drums, Simon...
Ruben Chadwick? Is that a real name or an alter ego? Can I start dropping that name to park rangers when they ask me for ID?
They may fall to the ground in submission, Bob. Our group does when it meets the real Ruben lol.
0:40....that's Sacrilege. ..those things are worth big $$$ now 😲
Not the Falcon!
@@crosstrainingenduro Ted Bullpitt Kingswood Country 👍😛
🤣
When the clutch drops........
Drop it like its hot ;)
Drop clutches, not bombs.
