Thanks for video, one question...how can we reduce the "superman" position (horisontal body, only hanging by handlebar) when rear wheel hit us in the butt? It happens to me also when jump over big logs and hit too hard, or when climbing steep hill with last 50cm vertical wall, I just lose contact with the pegs.
I do not know what you did before you was retired, however, you are a great teacher. This channel will live and grow long after you stop making and uploading videos because the quality of content is unmatched. Looking forward to all the videos you haven't made yet!
+Wesley Romeo cheers wes, only semi retired and still a social worker doing this sort of information and resource articles/vids as my job so got a headstart there. :)
You forgot number 11, my favourite. Stack the bike a few times while trying to get over it, rage quit and throw the bike down, finally, use the knuckle dragger technique of turning the bike off, lay it on it's side and skull dragging it over, then resume your normal riding position.
+CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES you could also go over a diagonal slippery log with lots of speed and fall over and the momentum will carry the bike over the log that's what I did a couple of times this past weekend when attempting the bunny hop with very little traction because of storms
+JoeJoe Moto Ok, Mr. Watson. It seems from your description that you've somehow been watching what little log crossing practice I've been doing. That's fine, make fun of me, just as long as you don't have video and it doesn't show up on your channel! LOL!!
I've been watching your vids ever since I bought my 2010 WR250 a year ago, I've quietly been practicing most of what you've covered, log hopping, cornering, keeping momentum up hills and going as slow as possible to learn how to balance properly. Last weekend I went riding with a group of guys with awesome brand new bikes and much to my surprise I found I not only kept up with them but made it through some of the gnarlier parts better than they did. I just wanted to say a big thanks, it really isn't the bike but how you ride it, on the flat the New bikes - KTM XC, YZX and RMZ zoomed past but I overtook them in the snotty stuff. Cheers!
awesome to hear miki... a few years back we had some motocrossers scream past on the flat track then at the first slippery hill they were all bowled over like bowling pins as we climbed past with no wheelspin in the mud. one of our girls stopped to ask them if they needed help, the look on their faces was a classic. :)
I have to work on my log hops. I think lofting the wheel with the clutch release, without going full wheelie is my biggest downfall. Great training vid!
As always - Fantastic. And a heartfelt thanks for sharing your learning with the rest of us. With the levels of skills you and the mates have reached you are however breaking away from the pack and thats a bit demotivating. I would therefore urge you to share your developmental journey in a video where you compile the phases you have been through in getting to the current skill level. Just to pick up those of us who now struggle to see your fender in the dust. Thanks a bunch.
+Carsten Wammen thanks carsten, we certainly feel things are starting to come together more lately. a summary vid isn't a bad idea covering the last 18 months. there is also the complete list of our ride vids in chronological order although the first six are pretty boring: crosstrainingenduro.com/cross-training-vlog.htm
great videos. Thanks! I've been trying these techniques and buildiing an enduros track to practice on here in NY. someone asked about weighting and de-weighting. first of all set your suspension soft, then exaggerate putting weight on the forks like your jumping on a pogo stick. hit the front brake hard and push down all the way and that should give you the feel of full compression on the forks. for deweighting just lean back exactly like Jarvis pop the clutch and nail the throttle.
Have you heard that husqvarna also makes chainsaws ? How about to carry a husqvarna while you are riding your husqvarna, so if you encouter a log, you can use your husqvarna instead of your husqvarna... :D
Thanks to Mr. Morris and his videos, I have come to the realization that I am a slow learner. (Thank you again Barry for bottoming out my self esteem...) That said, I will say in my own defense that opportunities to practice log crossing here in Alaska are few and far between (our trees are very skinny). However, after inconsistently practicing several of the Cross Training techniques espoused by the astute Mr. Morris, I am pleased to report that my balance (which was good to begin with) and my clutch technique have improved immensely in the last four months. I'm surprised, because it has affected even my go fast riding, using the clutch in combination with weighting/de-weighting to "leap" (get light) over rough trail sections and to pop the front end up at will. Because of the break throughs in clutch, balance and weighting/de-weighting, techniques such as these log crossings are coming into focus and the realm of possibility for me. ...In the absence of sizable logs to practice on, I have taken to attempting the application of these techniques on larger landscaping rocks (in Alaska large rocks/small boulders pass as suitable landscaping accoutrement). So far not real adept, actually down right clumsy. #bashedmyskidplate But I'll keep at it until I get it or the snow flies, whichever comes first! Thank you Mr. Morris for another outstanding video.
+gncc1race "accoutrement" would have to be the fanciest word ever used in a youtube comment... :) isn't it awesome when it all comes together occasionally? lately i've taken to bunny hopping over roots and ruts even on steep climbs and it's such a good feeling to not feel a thing as the bike sails over stuff i used to slam into then grind to a halt. and occasionally there's a big hole in the track but just use a small rock as a kicker and fly over it. so so SO cool when it happens!!! vid of you tackling the alaskan rocks or it never happened, lol.
Unfortunately I'm not a videographer, and I ride alone, so... When I get to where I can accomplish it with a measure of grace, then maybe I'll find a way to get a third person video of it. Until then, use your imagination... Short fat man, tall skinny motorcycle (...explains why my balance has been so well developed!), dented skid plate. LOL!!

+Dirceu Dutra lol i'm sure you've posted this comment on the wrong channel, this is the home of dodgy training vids for dodgy riders by dodgy riders :)
+BAMAJiPS i reckon you could take it a fair way, one of our guys started on a DRZ400 which is probably around the same weight, he was managing to get it over the biggest log in the vid without problems
Excellent tips! (I have zero enduro/dirtbike background but want to adventure ride and do mixed terrain, so this is big in the way of learning). You guys definitely earned a sub!
+BAMAJiPS I'm on a very low budget so I'm planning to get a DR350 as a first dirt bike. Just for light stuff though, probably not getting into endurocross just yet.
+Cogerino86 a pleasure cogerino... that one was a labor of love, took so much editing to whittle down to size. the detailed vids on each technique will have heaps more info and be at a more relaxed pace. :)
great vid again, good work. I (being british and mildly educated) understand the term 'overview' and await the following more detailed vids. LOL - I have seen just about all the vids and continually find myself trying more techniques and tackling harder obstacles, in part thanks to you guys, age & pain are no match for enthusiasm & denial !
+Simon Konetsky cheers simon, great you are enjoying the vids and understand the complexities of the word 'overview' lol! getting all these questions on the forums and guys whining about why there isn't more detail, sigh..... :)
I haven't really trained with any advanced log crossing and I came to a felled tree at an angle in the road. It fell so that I was driving into an acute angle and it was elevated off the ground and had a slope angle too. If that wasn't enough, theres a drainage ditch right below it. I wonder how easily someone else could have crossed it. I didnt lol
Compress the forks just before hitting a log. Hit the log at fast pace. Deweight the pegs while the front wheel hits the log. Hold on tight. Do a frontflip over the log. If possible try landing on the rear wheel & ride off in a wheelie. I'm sure you'll get all the Beta babes after pulling off that badass trick! Try at your own risk ;)
Also thanks for showing how to go over diagonal slippery logs because that's is the kind I always get but for your riding it's always really wide open I have tons of overhang and the trails are maybe 3 to 4 feet wide 4 feet if it really opens up so it's kind if hard to apply these techniques when your worried that you might get closelined or that your bark busters will hit a tree and your bike will go somewhere to the side as you fly forwards

yes, a big thanks to subscribers who have translated some of the videos! si, un grande gracias a los subscriberos para las traducciones en espanol :) losiento, mi espanol es muy malo lol
Great vid! Would love to see this stuff on a trail bike, not because I think it's impossible, but I see you guys lifting the tire and jumping logs with very little throttle. Then I jump on my 290lb klx300r with half the power, and feel like I got to rev it so much more lol. I think in the end, the lower power is better for learning since I can't loop it so easily.
If I was younger I'd love to redo a lot of the training vids using a DRZ400 or a DR650 for some of the techniques. Definitely needs a bit more focus on technique to lift the front wheel... these two strokes are so light and punchy it can cover up sloppy technique lol.
+CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES you should probably do a training vid on cleaning underwear first. The smell is quite difficult to get out, or so I hear of course
I'm trying to learn the double blip on a dr250, these guys make it so easy until I tried going up a log the height of my handlebars, it didn't end well 😂
yeah that's the point i was trying to make at the start, you really only need the first two or three techniques to cope with most things on the trail... the rest is for advanced riders or anyone who just loves getting into different techniques. :)
just a question, im new to cross riding and am getting my new 690 enduro r in a week or 2 so was wondering about skidplates and how mutch they can handle like if i hit a rock at speed does it totally protect my engine or is the skidplate mounted to the engine and sending the energy to the engine or is it mounted to the frame.? because i see u balansing the bike on the skidplate so how mutch can the skidplate take? will it crack and breake befor your enginecasing?
+IdCrisis each bike is a bit different but they all mount to the bike frame in one way or another. the alloy rarely cracks but usually just bends a bit if you hit rocks really hard. a decent skidplate can take very big hits. we like the force accessories and also B&B stuff here in australia. guys in the US buy it sometimes too, especially when our dollar is low like it is at the moment.
ok thanks, live in norway myself (where it is iliegal to ride motorsycles offroad in the forest because u destroy the forest)) so i only get my bike offroad at cross track. but i doubt i will take my 13500 euro new motorsyckle with an 2000 euro akra exhaust offroad with no experience XD. i love your videos and try to learn something from it, (or i learn a lot but need to put it to practice when suummer comes, still snow and ice everywhere) take care.CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES
+IdCrisis i've been posting more vids than usual lately because the canadians and alaskans said they can't ride their bikes and are going crazy... they said some videos would help them stay sane lol!
well sanity escaped long ago i guess the bears took it with them to their winter sleep. well i guess i need to get my new bike from the dealer on a trailer but i guess i will take it out in the snow and imediatly regrett it cuz i most likely gonna crash it, qq well i many times wish i lived in more southern places so i could atleast ride without ever needing to worry about ice, well well see next winter what the cops are gonna say when i ride with 2cm spikes on my knobbies on the black ice covered roads, XD
@@fiskare921 We ride in the forest and no WE DON"T destroy the forest...you...you......its called treading lightly, using a spark arrestor, and all we do is make paths,...no destroying anything...you....you......I can't say it because I love this channel too much and don't want me video mates getting mad at me....and eeewww "I won't take my 13,500 euro new motorcycle and my 2000 euro exhaust off road." For one thing you just told us you can't go off road and 2ndly, if you're going to sissy up the place with your "new 13000 euro bike and 2000 euro exhaust" stay at home and look at it. Lastly, If you could ride off road maybe you should have just bought a used beat up bike for 2000 so you could have fun like we do..... smh,
CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS Ok thx, I’ve watched that video. I understand there are pros and cons. Specifically then, were you or any of your riding buddies using an auto clutch able to do a pivot turn or a larger log hop?
no, as per the video it would make those things too difficult to do. i figure you could work out a way to make it happen but we'd rather learn how to use the clutch properly. 😊
Ok thx for that info, I harp on about using a Rekluse because I’m missing my left hand. I can ride ok but definitely have not mastered the techniques we’ve mentioned.
+Thomas Botica as per a few vids back, i was rubbing the graphics off the side with my boots and fitted a second set of stock ones because they were so cheap. couldn't be bothered buying a second set of graphics.
surprisingly not. tim coleman is a pro rider who is always slipping a clutch and doing big hours but never has to replace the clutch in the year he keeps the bike.
I been biking 29 years single track for 4 in Ganaraska forest. Cannot do any of them tricks but i am one of the fastest guy in single track. Don’t have the dexterity
Hard to say Dan, for some bits a soft trials-style setup will be better. The much heavier weight of a dual sport will make things harder even if softer suspension might help.
+otpipe at seven seconds into the vid it says "this is an overview, there are specific vids on the way". then at the end, it says "these are coming over the next few weeks". so they aren't even posted yet but will be. over the next few weeks. :)
+CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES Well it sure did say that in the video didn't it. I missed it due to my one track mind. That's why I watch them over and over. Lol

what about slippy logs? it was a small log normally you could just roll over it, my friend liftet his Front wheel, his rear wheel went somewhere else.. I tried to roll.over it, my Front wheel slipped and i Fall...
+alani 201 michelin comp 3. a lot of guys complain about them but i liked them. very light tyre, flexible carcass, soft rubber compound so they suit our style of riding. but if heavy handed on the throttle they would wear fast.
I always found the slapper technique to be scary as hell! probably because I can't wheelie for shit, lol. Love hearing Birchy rev and clutch dump the tits off the bike in the static log jump too... Boss!!
+MatnBec BikeAdventures he be da man, dat birchy. :) yeah i'd never done the slapper and it feels weird getting the front wheel so high but works a treat. i won't be using it much though as i'm more into the slow riding but would be brilliant in endurocross or enduro events.
oh yeah, for sure...it's way too fast for my liking...I'll stick to the slower stuff too. Never did think of using the bash plate on large logs...would just get the courage to hit it once, clear it by a complete fluke and then retire champion of that particular tree...wouldn't want to make everyone else look bad now would I :P best feeling when you hit it perfect and it just boosts you up and over the log and you land all smooth and stylish.
Criticism of every log video, not picking on this one… when you come across a log in the wild it is usually on a narrow trail, with obstruction on both sides, at an angle, bark-less and wet.. dry logs in a field are a lot easier!:)
@@crosstrainingenduro totally! And I love your vids.. I just finished a gnarly ride with lots of logs and this came up and I was thinking it funny because I never have to cross a log in an open field on level ground.. but I get it.. same skills apply.. sort of

yes, a big thanks to subscribers who have translated some of the videos!
si, un grande gracias a los subscriberos para las traducciones en espanol :)
losiento, mi espanol es muy malo lol
Well Javier, if you're latin American...as in an AMerican citizen, then you already speak English and don't need translating.....
Thanks Barry. Love the Bikers homework
and none of that stuff about the dog eating your homework evan, when we check in with you later...
@@crosstrainingenduro that makes total sense, and yeah nothing is covering up my sloppy technique lol I appreciate the feedback.
What a bunch of toss. Everyone knows soiling your pants is an integral part of getting over a log that is higher than your handlebars.
Great vid man!
+BBQ Rider food for thought, a specific training vid on pants soiling and wetting? :)
+CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES you should probably do a training vid on cleaning underwear first. The smell is quite difficult to get out, or so I hear of course
I love the videos you post! They are funny, entertaining, and educational. =D
Keep it up!
+Smokey510015 will do smokey, at least until i run headfirst into a tree in top gear :)
I like these videos a lot. I have dr650se I love it. But not good on the logs. Still upgraiding my dr.
I know the feeling, Artis! I went to try a medium sized log on my DR and wound up trapped under the bike lol.
Very very cool
in which gear do you normally tackle those logs?
PS: your videos are awesome. I learned so much from your riding tipps. greets from Austria! 😊
usually just first gear, juro. possibly top riders might use second gear and come in faster and slip the clutch.... glad you are enjoying the vids!
I'm trying to learn the double blip on a dr250, these guys make it so easy until I tried going up a log the height of my handlebars, it didn't end well 😂
Yeah that's a big log, Joey! We'll do a vid soon about a log bigger than that and even Tim Coleman initially had trouble with it at first.
I can simplify it even more, Small log: wheelie or just smash into it, med-large log: Smash into the top of the log ;)
yeah that's the point i was trying to make at the start, you really only need the first two or three techniques to cope with most things on the trail... the rest is for advanced riders or anyone who just loves getting into different techniques. :)
another great vid thanks, I can see myself riding up to a log and crashing into it because I can't make up my mind which technique to use.lol
+Simon Fry actually that's happened to me a few times.... should i punch or double blip.....? bam. :)
nicely done
just a question, im new to cross riding and am getting my new 690 enduro r in a week or 2 so was wondering about skidplates and how mutch they can handle like if i hit a rock at speed does it totally protect my engine or is the skidplate mounted to the engine and sending the energy to the engine or is it mounted to the frame.? because i see u balansing the bike on the skidplate so how mutch can the skidplate take? will it crack and breake befor your enginecasing?
Lastly, If you could ride off road maybe you should have just bought a used beat up bike for 2000 so you could have fun like we do..... smh,
another great vid
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Looks fun. Now to practice till I look like Graham Jarvis
⚡🍻✊😉👍🍻⚡🎟🏥
2:14 20 year old kdx is waiting his turn :D great job guys :D
Good Spotting Kyle Peterson.... Once A KDX Man Always A KDX Man !!! :-)
I have a 86 KDX 200 love it
Nice Vid. Well Done.
Thanks for the great video, In Montana we use a chainsaw 😀
Does it make sense to practice any drills on a small bike?
I love this channel so much.
Hi. Do you think some of the techniques in your excellent video can be achieved while using a Rekluse clutch and no clutch lever?
we have done a video about how a rekluse affects these techniques
CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS
Ok thx, I’ve watched that video.
It is amazing that you have so much subscribers but so little comments:( but I guess that means less words for you to read
i love you man
nice
Great tips! What happened to the italian princess's graphics?
+Thomas Botica as per a few vids back, i was rubbing the graphics off the side with my boots and fitted a second set of stock ones because they were so cheap. couldn't be bothered buying a second set of graphics.
Thanks 👍
piece of cake!!
Top video this...!
how fast can you go over a medium size log, 20 inch and up? 2nd gear? or first gear?
you would need to ask a competent endurocross racer that question harry, not a middle aged gumby. :)
0:41 it reminds me the bump jump on bmx
Great video. These guys must go through a clutch every month though
surprisingly not. tim coleman is a pro rider who is always slipping a clutch and doing big hours but never has to replace the clutch in the year he keeps the bike.
Here in Italy we say 'Hoppa Da Logga'
I been biking 29 years single track for 4 in Ganaraska forest. Cannot do any of them tricks but i am one of the fastest guy in single track. Don’t have the dexterity
The good old Gannie, rode there a few years back when visiting Canada. Not a lot of hill climbs but some great twisty single track.
Is it easier to do these techniques (generally speaking) with stiffer suspension? Say, mx bike vs. dual sport?
Hard to say Dan, for some bits a soft trials-style setup will be better. The much heavier weight of a dual sport will make things harder even if softer suspension might help.
@@crosstrainingenduro I'm sure the softer power of a ds doesn't make things easier. Guess I just have to pull harder on the bars
But if you watch the rest of the training vids (especially 'small practical wheelie'), you'll see pulling on the bars usually doesn't work.
@@crosstrainingenduro I'll be honest, I have watched a lot of your videos but certainly not all of them. The wheelie thing is a new chapter for me.
Got sooooo much to learn! Need more medical insurance 😂
😆
Ty
At the end where it says "detailed vids available " where are those? Are they the individual vids on your blog site?
+otpipe at seven seconds into the vid it says "this is an overview, there are specific vids on the way". then at the end, it says "these are coming over the next few weeks". so they aren't even posted yet but will be. over the next few weeks. :)
+CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES
Well it sure did say that in the video didn't it. I missed it due to my one track mind. That's why I watch them over and over. Lol
+otpipe lol there are quite a few guys on the forums already saying "why isn't there more detail?" :)
3:35 bruh this caught me off gaurd I'm dieing😂
😁
Awesome

sick
cool i wear their gear ill have to cotact them thanks
What the difference punch tecnique and double blip, looks same
i use these moves on my YFZ
Lmao that disclaimer at the front.
what about slippy logs? it was a small log normally you could just roll over it, my friend liftet his Front wheel, his rear wheel went somewhere else.. I tried to roll.over it, my Front wheel slipped and i Fall...
still the same techniques as in all 10 vids but more emphasis on the weight and deweight
CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS Im gonna hurt myself for sure but tthank you ver much
what tires use the betaa???
+alani 201 michelin comp 3. a lot of guys complain about them but i liked them. very light tyre, flexible carcass, soft rubber compound so they suit our style of riding. but if heavy handed on the throttle they would wear fast.
I want to do this as a hobby
hopping logs, pam? or making vids?
Cheers

Bienvenidos Fernando, saludos desde Australia. 😊
+MatnBec BikeAdventures isn't it great? way better than heroin and a longer lasting high :)
Criticism of every log video, not picking on this one… when you come across a log in the wild it is usually on a narrow trail, with obstruction on both sides, at an angle, bark-less and wet.. dry logs in a field are a lot easier!:)
Yep, it's why we also did a video about crossing logs at an angle and coping with the slippage etc. And also using kickers.
@@crosstrainingenduro totally! And I love your vids.. I just finished a gnarly ride with lots of logs and this came up and I was thinking it funny because I never have to cross a log in an open field on level ground.. but I get it.. same skills apply.. sort of
what music on backend?
music is always listed in the credits, boris
Please invite my to a training course I want to be there, had some life changing monuments I must capitalize on. I want to be better!
If you are anywhere near Canada I think the Traction eRag guys are still running a few courses before summer finishes?
