  • Dr Hari Jayaram, associate professor at the Institute of Ophthalmology and consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, joins us for this My Macular and Me webinar. He discussed his research on the effects of degenerative eye conditions on a patient’s mental health, looking in particular at the Covid-19 pandemic.
This research is one of the first in the UK to directly address the mental wellbeing of patients with degenerative eye conditions, such as macular disease and diabetic retinopathy, with the aim of informing healthcare professionals and policy makers on patient’s unmet needs and to improve the wellbeing of patients across the UK.

Currently, wet AMD can be treated with injections to slow down the progress of the condition in most people. Unfortunately, at this moment in time there is no treatment for dry AMD, but research is going on around the world, including research funded by the Macular Society.

Yes there now is a treatment for advanced dry AMD. I got an injection in my eye for it a few days ago. Ask your up to date ophthalmologist. It only came out 2 months ago.
