Hi Jeanette, we would still recommend you get your regular scans as recommended by your optometrist, but with using a home monitoring app, it would mean you could have your eyes regularly checked from the comfort of your own home, between your regular scans at the opticians. This means it could be possible to detect changes earlier.
Hi Yvonne, the cause of AMD is not known but there are a number of factors associated with the development of the condition. Age is the main risk factor, as we age, cell regeneration reduces and this increases the risk of developing the condition. Genetics are a factor, so those with a family history of macular degeneration will have an increased risk of developing AMD. Smoking is another risk factor, as well as a poor diet that is low in fruit and vegetables.
At this moment in time, the app is only available on smart phones, but it is still in a trial period so if this were to be taken forward, a laptop app may be considered. Thanks
I always thought that the scans that we have are very important, so what will happen with them, will they not be needed anymore.

Are we not looking at what is causing the wet AMD to occur - is it diet or or perhaps intake of alcohol?
