FDNY Fort Pitt goes on a full house run

- We are at quarters of FDNY Engine 15, Tower Ladder 18, and Battalion 4, better known as Fort Pitt, at the corner of Pitt Street and Delancey Street, where we see the entire house go on a run 2nd due for an odor of gas. I am not sure why the rigs used their lights and sirens for a 2nd due response, but it might have been modified as they turned out. Engine 15 is a 2010 Seagrave Marauder II, Tower Ladder 18 is a 2012 Seagrave with a 75 foot Aerialscope, and Battalion 4 is a 2009 GMC 2500. Enjoy the full house response, replete with siren and horn. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on April 9th, 2015.

After serving my community for 18 years, i really miss it.
Seeing all the NYPD out there across from FDNY reminds me of Third Watch on the corner of King and Arthur ... I miss that show
I'd love to drop into this station sometime, my Department up here in Vermont has TL 18's old Mack CF/Baker. Still in service, still going strong. I've got a scrap book that has pictures from when we got it (Practically stripped by the shops) through its refurb and to its current state.
AJ Cable what year is the rig ?
Still have it AJ? I’d love to come see it as a former L-18 member
WOW!! What a difference in the grills from the 2010 'til now, 2020.
Amazing catch
Great catches 🚒🚨
Odor of gas at least where I'm at gets treated like an active fire no matter what
+Teddy Higger-Paris You are correct. The blue at the rear indicates a later purchase because 2009 was when they started using the GMC's & there was no blue at that time.
The horn on 18 truck is very cool
I actually visited here it’s a nice and roomy house
cool vid
too cool!

They used their lights and siren for a second due response because it's a response. Being a firefighter, I'd rather response code 3 to a third or fourth due call even then respond no code and be minutes away when it turns out it's a non-bullshit call when I could be a couple of seconds out when it turns out it's a job.
I grew up next to a station house in Wisconsin . Those boys were out constantly in under 1 minutes,.
Good for them.
1 minutes huh?
Nice! video
yamillet
I really liked our ladder 18 :-) :-) :-) :-) ;-)
Awesome video!!
Horn from tower 18 gave camera man a scare .
Nice catch. Don't think battalion 4 is a 2009. I remember when they got that rig not too long ago. All the cars with the silver grills and the blue lights in the rear are newer than 2009.
I have a cousin who is the aid for the 4th battalion btw.
"bullshit call" lmao, The Boys From Fort Pitt, Haven't Been By That House In Ages
All these comments about a slow turnout? 1:40 is slow lol? I'm a retired engine/truck Capt. (33 years on the hob) and having worked many busy houses. I always told my crew if I caught anyone in a dead run (day or night) I'd trip them! Good grief a minute and half to turn out is too slow? Coming from old school I gotta say going from a dead sleep to a dead run is kinda hard on your cardio eh? Push yourself from zero to 100 just to gain half a minute or so at most? Getting in such a hurry you are racing the clock can lead to some accidents.
thefiredude52 I'm an on call firefighter in the UK and I respond on foot I do a quarter of a mile from being asleep quite often and during the day if I'm about the house there's no room to run in a firehouse to that degree of strain that it would have an affect on the heart quite possibly the adrenaline rush when the bells go down or my pager sounds would be worse
I was told by a retired Captain about running and time out the door "The fires not going anywhere. If you fall down or sprang something, is it really doing it the best and safest way?"
Brotherbrownstone the fires not going anywhere are you for real the fire would be going through whatever is on fire tell that to the people who are trapped "it's ok the fire's not going anywhere, we are just strolling around putting our kit on and we will be with you" see how silly that comment you made looks now???
K. Ask a firefighter if he runs to his rig. Just ask.
They're second due. If they were first due, they'd be out in a minute. Keep in mind in NY firehouses are just a few blocks apart, so the drive to the scene is often just a minute or two. There is really no need to sprint around when you'll arrive on the scene in four minutes anyway.
In ny, they pretty much respond code to everything, because of the traffic. Even the EMS guys, take minor stuff in hot, otherwise, it'd take them 3+ hrs to get to some places. Even running code, they barely get anywhere because of the traffic. Having said that. They were 2nd due for odor of gas, I have yet to see any fire companies hop to, for that type of call.
gas is extremely hazardous, and can blow out entire side of a hi-rise
That's right 👍
Curious about what information gets printed out and handed to the drivers?
Address, type of call, etc
How do you get all this stuff
The second truck and third trucks respond at end.
What NYPD precinct is that across the street?
New York City Police Department - 7th Precinct
🚒👍👍👍
Good catch, ;)

Hey I was there on ladder 18
Whats the engine behind ladder 18?
That's a reserve engine, which is normally used for patrol during parades and the San Gennaro Festival. It will sit on a side street, hooked up to a hydrant, but just as a stand-by.
why would you think that the units shouldn't use lights and sirens if they are 2nd due? It's an emergency assignment. doesn't matter if 1st due, 2nd due, 3rd, 4th, etc etc
Most cities this big run lights on everything
"If you're 'IN SERVICE' And 'RESPONDING', then you're
'IN SERVICE and RESPONDING!
LIGHT "EM UP - AND LET EVERYONE KNOW!!!!!
👍 🚒 🚨🚨
Must have been teatime
I just noticed another rig that was behind 18; is that one a spare or something; cuz if not; then it's not a "full house" call; according to my knowledge; "full house" would mean every single unit in that station goes; not even 1 vehicles is left behind inside the station
The rig behind Ladder 18 is a spare that is used for special events such as parade patrol, the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy, if the President is in town, etc....Otherwise, it is not a frontline piece.
Where i live, we have full house assignments but some of the units are cross-staffed. Mostly an engine and BLS med unit cross-staffed with a crew of 3 at some of the stations. That could be why sometimes rigs are left behind. Depends on what rig is dispatched at that station on the response.
@@FL92002 does fdny not like the real Q siren?
Why do they have bells on each bay door?
The bells ring when the door goes up or down to alert people to stand clear of them
Not quite a full house respond cause there is another fire truck behind the ladder truck.
That engine is only used for parades, festivals, or other special events, so they don't have to take a frontline rig out of service and sideline it.
Oh
my old volunteer FD i was on we were up and gone under 4 mins
FL92002 the fdny moves slow as heck in this video
dviantre german my words.... we have 60 seconds day and night to get out on the street ! greez from Vienna, Austria, Europe ! City of Vienna Fire Department ! ;-)
BadenCityFire they were second due on an odor of gas
Joseph Wirta when we are second due we have 60 seconds day and night !!!!!!!! it does not belong to the call..... 60 seconds !!!!!
FL92002 what truck was behind ladder 18
this isnt a full house run there is still a firetruck in the back
Livingwithwalker i think that is a spare
What about the truck in the back?
Most likely a spare.
2:40 theres an nypd police car :)
Linda Harrison and
there not in a big hurry
*they're
my family is full of firemen they where not in a hurry ,yes in nyc there are a lot false calls but that was not fast .
Your point?
@@normpaul565 That was a minute in a half. Check the timestamp.
Why does US firefighters turn on their lights long before leaving? :P
Andreas Pedersen To alert people passing by that the apparatus will be responding soon
+Andreas Pedersen They also turn their lights on when coming back and backing into the station.
+kevin62387 In Germany too! some stations have extra traffic lights
+Jan_Holt Ja here too in USA! On the main roads they usually have traffic lights. In my town (population 50,000) we have 4 fire stations and only the main headquarters has a traffic light, the other 3 are on smaller streets so there is no need for traffic lights.
kevin62387 Here Too! we have in my town a population of 80,000 an 1 Fire Station whit 30 cars and only for that a Traffic Light the 8 Volunteer dont have that because they may have 2 calls a week
How is a full house fire a bullshit call?
Why yall keep saying they're too slow didn't you hear he said its a bullshit call
You might think so numerous times and then there might be the one call where that bullshit call is actually sth real ...
NCREDIBLE TV I thought it said full ship call meaning everything was turning out
they're 2nd due, it isn't bull
Anyone notice there was NYPD everywhere?
There is a police precinct right next door.
Was that a police car parked on a cross walk! what's up with that
they are exempt doesnt matter where they park
That's bull shit!
Don't hurry gee.
The reason why a second due company will respond in emergency mode is because the incident is still considered an emergency until pronounced otherwise by the commander in charge. 2nd Due companies can and sometimes will reach an emergency scene before the first due company because of many different reasons.
There was another engine behind the tower ladder that didn't respond.so it wasn't a full house run
It's a reserve unit. It wasn't supposed to respond.
In germany we have only 90seconds to respond
New York is the slowest fd when getting out of the station for a call
And you know this because?
Your an expert on fire response or you don't know what you're talking about.
There are MANY factors going through every head in this video!!
MOST unknown to us !!!
It's not JUST the little clock in the vid!
if British fire fighters took as long as you yanks to get rolling they would be fired from there jobs time is critical
time is critical but if things are rushed mistakes are made and lives can be lost that way
English firefighters are extremely slow at turning out..
I think they are "second due" which I assume means its not urgent/additional man power and the incident is already under control? I'm sure of it was a hosue fire - person trapped it would be a lot different. I could be wrong - you could be right. I guess no point rushing, flying through red lights, rushing to put gear on, tripping etc etc
David Armstrong yeah but u guys are British so Americans would fire u just for that reason alone
It’s an odor of gas call.........anyone who responds to calls knows that they would act much quicker anytime there is a real call
In the UK we call people like this FLUBs.
In the US, we call people like you idiots.
In NYC we call you an asshole
So slow getting out of station. That seems to be the norm on the FDNY youtube videos. I'm sure there are FDNY stations that hasten to get out of station to earn their salaries for emergency response but they're just hard to find on youtube...
a full 2 and half minutes and you lot hesitating to leave. gez, you lot have no sense of urgency lol
gary63693 it depends on what type of call it is if it's an emergency that it's a fast response but if it's non emergency or non life threatening then it's they don't have to respond as fast response
2nd due to a gas call, chill out. Did you not see them gun it out the door anyway?
that's not a full house run there is still an engine sitting in the fire house
That's just a spare rig, which is only used for special events, such as the San Gennaro Festival, where an engine is used to monitor the event, but it doesn't pull a front line engine out of service.
Dump the house
