UPDATE: The turret angles are bugged. At 6:24 as pointed out by 'yeet_or_get_yeeted_7845' all my turrets fire within 10km at a sharper angle than 48 degrees. (around 42-43) I did a bit of testing this morning in the training room and it seems like you can fire all your guns even when the ui says you can't! The 4th turret can fire all the way to 7.2km and the 3rd turret to 7.3km at the normal 22 degree angle. (game updated so I don't have mods to know the exact angle I'm at but its much sharper than the 48 degrees I thought it was limited to lol. I have no clue why this is, and I'm waiting on an update from WG as I just posted this to the CC discord. I'll edit this comment again when I know more. (If this is the expected behavior it will help this ship a ton)
Original Comment: Even now I'm not sure what to make of this ship, I probably overstated the weaknesses due to high expectations. It's probably an average to poor tier 10 bb, but that doesn't warrant a 35 minute video tearing into it like I did. I played it again after recording this video for a few hours and managed to have a few better games and a few much worse games. The dispersion is a problem but one that impacts most bb's so you could probably look past this complaint. However the turret angles at close range are a major problem. The only thing this ship does better than Colombo (which is not a strong bb) is the sap secondaries and longer duration smoke. This would lead me to believe you should push up with the smoke (since that makes it easier to get close) and brawl it out. Unfortunately the turret angles prohibit this.
The sap secondaries are also much worse than I initially thought. They have worse dpm than Giuseppe Verdi at tier 9 (both have sap secondaries), I found the tier 9 underwhelming to play and obviously forgot about it otherwise I wouldn't have been so hyped for Sicilia. **Secondaries have WORSE dpm than a t9 that isn't even that good** I know Sicilia gets 36mm pen minimum vs only 26mm on Verdi but it's a whole tier difference to be splitting hairs over dpm vs pen. Keep in mind they both have the same dispersion.
Comparing this ship to Ohio is a bit of a joke since Ohio is so good. OP even. But it is a 'fair' comparison for someone grinding research points. Deciding between these two is simple. Get Ohio.
I do apologize for complaining for 3 videos in a row on these new ships but these are my raw thoughts and opinions on them. Hopefully it helps you with your purchasing/grinding decisions. Remember it doesn't matter what some youtuber thinks about a ship, if you are enjoying it continue to enjoy it and ignore me. :)
Feels like the close range turret angles is a bug. Don't think any other ship has properties such as this. Feels like the intention is to have identical gun angles as the Columbo. It's probably a case of messing up the code when they improved angles of the Columbo. What would you think about the ship if it didn't have this problem?
This ship I feels like has the same problems with the Seattle. Horrible gun angles and you can’t angle nor kite without taking a huge amount of damage. I also feel as Sicilia just needs some minor tweaks to become a very good combo of napoli and colombo. Just sort of move that secondary battery in front of the 3rd turret closer to the front, allow the guns to have a better angle and just increase the dispersion of the secondaries. If you play Seattle you will see what I mean.
It's rough to hear this, I had high expectations about it too... Maybe another thing to take in count is that always test/new ships get more fire focus of enemy team. I feel something similar on Kar Johan... All wanted to kill me and they did it, now i have some better games with almost 200k dmg on a acceptable t9
It's good to rip into things, shows what you think, let's others know that it isn't a brilliant thing to get, most CCs are like "OMG SAP MONSTER" then show their best game and say its worth buying cos they wanna kiss ass WG, then you buy it and get pissed off...so yes I'd rather you rip into ships then I fully know what to expect, which I'd a rage induced waste of time ship :)
@@PosileptonI mean Halland and Smaland have different close range gun angles, so it’s probably intended…wouldn’t really fix the problem with the lackluster secondary DPM though.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate a CC having the balls to 1.improve the game more than most of the WG staff apparently and 2. Having the balls to be so open and honest?

Not only are the main gun angles bad, the secondaries angles are even worse, 55º at the front and 40º at the back.
at 6:24 you fire all your guns with the rear 2 saying they cant fire. It feels like a bug that its saying they cant fire. Im not saying its all a bug but some of the angle not being able to shoot does seem to be bugged.
Wow didn't even realize while editing this happened. I hope it's a bug since better turret angles at close range would help this ship so much. (although they will probably 'fix' it so you can't shoot with good angles at close range lol)
They copied and pasted Colombo's firing angle limit on the GUI but its not in the final ship? lol.

I love the video transition from the test room into the normal battle. Like when a movie keeps the angle on a character but changes his location.
Solid impression video of the ship. Yes, the rear turret angles might be bugged, probably are, but that's just another reason not to acquire the ship at this time. The player base should allow War Gambling to fix the issue and then consider getting the ship later. I've had 100k research points laying around for a while so I'll just get Ohio if I return to the game; double cv and sub matches have pushed me out. Keep up the great work.

If you dont have ohio it's fully worth it, I bought illinoise as my first RB ship, that's a solid choice too, ohio was my second, I'll work on slava next
Colbert and Vamp II are also great contenders, as well as DM/Yami/Petro/Gouden/Moskva Legmod. Definitely get Ohio before this lmao.
i have Ohio Slava and Paolo Emilio it will probably be Illinois or van speijk for nationalistic reasons
@@janneman7710 Illinois can be a tremendous help if you need to deal with " BB main battery hits " missions. I think we had that in current dockyard too, but i cant check right now.
Side point: getting rid of sky cancer & making the game better for everyone 11:10 gets a like from me. Very satisfying to watch

The turret angles are a surprise because I thought the Sicilia meant that they buffed the firing angles on Colombo, as well. These don't seem like buffed firing angles. As you said, maybe this is bugged?

The problem with the turret angle in close combat is a known bug and is not intended. WG released some information that they are working on it and plan to change it that the angle works as intended.
this has to be a bug. those turrets have the room to shoot
A little unrelated but how do you setup that small icon which gives you info on your heal (how much it can heal you at most and how much it will). I tried to find a setting to activate it but still could not figure it out
Ohio always is the best choice. After that I would consider getting Illinois and vampire 2 and yolo emillio
I decided to grind the R. Lauria instead. Realize it's a different currency, but after seeing this ship in action...not a fan.

I made many of these points on a few videos.
At the end of the day, your secondaries are *virtually* worthless. You cannot spec into them, they're not good at all, and the turret angles are WORSE. So what you end up with is a Colombo with a better smoke, and SIGNIFICANTLY worse guns overall. The HE on Sicilia is almost 100% worthless. Even a god-tier HE salvo (10k dmg and a fire) pales in comparison to a mediocre SAP salvo which is basically a guaranteed 12-15k damage.
The HE instead of SAP is most noticeably a horrible downgrade whenever you're dealing with destroyers and subs.
The Colombo received the same +10 deg buff to rear turret angles, does anyone know if it shares the same problem?
Don’t think so, since Sicilia’s turret angles are blocked by the additional 127 forward of the 3rd turret. Columbo with its smaller secondary suite shouldn’t have a problem.

Isn't this some kind of a bug? Do you have any direct channels with WG to confirm it with them?
I can't remember any other ship in the game where the distance would affect the firing angles. As far as I could tell the firing angles are/were fixed values on each ship thus far, and not necessarily in line with the ship's model... (you know, for "balance reasons")

Just in case you didn't see his edited pinned comment you're entirely right, it's a shame they released such an expensive(time wise) ship with such a glaring issue
My selling point is the ship is Italian. But it does look like a ship that is disappointing like the Michelangelo. If you build into main guns, might as well get something else for RB points and get/build Columbo for main battery.
Bit of a strange bug considering Colombo's updated firing angles are ridiculously good now, to the point where it almost doesn't make sense for the model lol

Great video - need this commentary and honest opinion from a unicorn player - I'm an average player - if you are having a rough time with it then I know to stay away. In any case I agree that if this was a coal ship the review may change - HOWEVER - it is for a game currency that is difficult to get, and thus deserves the reviews it gets...

I get your conclusion as Pause/Stop buy this ship.
If anything changes in either ship fix, buff or maybe you get it working as expected from bureau ship, then you still don't need call your current rating as negative, but rather cautious to warn us before getting it.
Maybe it would help you to pre-write your thoughts a little bit so you don't harp too much on the same thing. Or take a nap before to let of go of the anger :D Maybe you want to force the drive bys with the smoke build in opportune moments.
Wish I'd seen this a few days ago. I already have the Ohio and Illinois. Comparing the Sicilia to the Slava it had less minuses so I picked Sicilia. Maybe they'll fix it.
i remember when we were testing the colombo. maby 4 years ago? long time. anyway, the first iteration had way better gun angles, then the back turrets got a 10 degrees nerf. a huge nerf. it was really bad to see the ship model with a ton of space for the turret to turn and they would turn because they are 360 but unable to shoot for "reasons". then the stealth accuracy skill was removed and the ship became such a pain to play. it was a huge disappointment.
ho yes, and way better damage for saps. that nerf was good.
yeah, not rushing to get this or the tinjin, watched you on your stream yesterday and got almost as frustrated as you were, lol. By the way, the ASW change to the Ohio feels so good, thats a definite win.
You should try Colombo with the better sigma and firing angles, its pretty good
Even Izumo with her three turrets in the front has to give up a lot of angle to fire all three turrets 😂. They don't want you firing 9 gun salvos while being in a perfect defensive position 😊
Sounds like Lion, would maybe be more survivable and easier to use in a meaningful way but the turret angles are so bad it becomes a massive weakness. I got dev struck once by a Jean Bart at close range when angled away but still able to fire the front guns, can’t even say he hit the rear cheek cause it all went straight through the angled belt

Looks like this ship is meant to be in a div with a Schlieffen and a secondary Napoli and just have the smoke utility...

I mean, you have smoke and 16 guns. There are trade offs to be made.
If the X turret firing angles were to be a bug it would look balanced...and even then they're 360s. 360 turrets are a pretty great feature. Does every new ship have to be the newest, the strongest, the most OP?
But then your point of what's the point over the tech tree version stands, and I can't answer that. We'll see.
Still waiting for what Rhode Island comes out for. But... I can't imagine RI or Wisconsin being coal BBs. Maybe Victoria?

They gave it 360° turrets on the back, so they had to nerf the firing angle because of it or the ship would just be another broken OP ship 😂

TBH i already see this ship from its stat that this ship meant to be HE spammer (fast shell and good trajectory) with the secondary as it's backup from ppl trying to rush in, but still secondary build is a must for this ship, it's like gueseppe verdi (or whatever it's).
And let's be honest for an RB ship ohio still better than this, if it's coal then GK is better,
And last but not least, it has the magic dispersion, try to double tap (full salvo) when firing and I'm sure 80%+ of those salvos are good dispersion. Same stuff with GK, although ppl brag about it's accuracy but my GK have a good dispersion with full salvo firing and on par with Montana's dispersion.

What is the detection range when firing secondaries in smoke?
No penalty on secondary firing. Only applicable to main ones.

From playing legends for so long all the Italian bb have sap secondaries but they are only really good for dd deterents and not much else
There is no reason to get this ship, outside of collection. It does not positively stand out in any regard, has no real unique gimmick, and is even outclassed by its tech-tree counterpart. Do not get this ship, unless you have everything else for RP already, and even then it is not worth it. 2/10

honestly with all the ship reviews im curious to the Kremlin in 2024. i know its just a tech tree ship but i cant find very recent reviews of it.
Yeah, you can get OHIO, but it was blocked out of clan battles a few times. Why do I need a ship, that can be blocked?

You're right to compare to the Ohio, of course, but by this point there's got to be more Ohio-havers than Ohio-not-havers in the pool of potential buyers, so for most people it's not going to be a question of buying one or the other.

a lot of ships have stupid turret angles for invisible reasons. stupid mechanics on top of other stupid mechanics - that sums this game up.

Colombo is bad for a reason, Sicilia is just a Colombo with different ammo.
Just dev struck one 5 mins ago in my nerfed tech-line Balao. He had fun.

@Scarl3t03 yea, the hydrophone went from a 30 sec run time to 1 sec, with a 51 sec cool down. The boat does handle better, but I used to use that hydrophone for my payout runs (shotgunning) to get a solid bearing for the final approach. Now, it's a lot more difficult to accurately pop up in the middle of a pack, and pick the lucky boat to send to Port. Will definitely take some getting used to.
Another stranger ship for a stranger play type like karl Johan (seems like they are brawlers but they are not)

This ship is crap. Not very effective with the main guns or with the secondary armament (which should be its peculiarity). It must have been a Coal ship.

Sevastopol for sure. Dont get Sicillia if you dont have literally everything else.
Both are bad, but Sevastopol is useless.

@@Lily-D1215definitely legmods, Des Moines, Moskva, Yamato, or Gouden if you don’t have them. Also Sevastopol heal is getting changed this update, just heads up, action time reduced to 60s and cooldown reduced to 120 from 90 and 180 respectively.
WG too busy finding new ways to make players angry to make sure their ships aren't bugged/playstyle actually works? Between gearing part of it towards brawling but garbage back turret angles with not top end armor and highly sought after SAP secondaries but the back turret only working at ranges said secondaries don't work; that's really bad work by the devs.
On top of the fact that like too many other ships, it instantly does better back line HE spamming than the way the ship is actually designed to work; again poor game balancing.

I never believed sap secondaries without INSANE accuracy could be any good* since I`m of the opinion that Fire damage is OP and ruins all skill requirements for BB players. Cruisers need a way to fight BB's and so do the other types w/o torpedoes. But BB's have no business having insane damage AND set multiple fires per volley that is only rightfully the CV's preogative.... err yeah I hate that too. Anyways less self-doubt cause you KNOW what you are talking about. "A few days of testing" is far more than any of us have at the time of you making that vid.
*A litte explanation: AP and in lesser form SAP needs to hit a specific part of a ship where they can pen the armor of, else thay have no effect. Secondaries being AI controlled only aim midships and not even that high. Therefore many will shatter on torpedobelts and the like. HE shells even when doing ZERO damage STILL RETAIN THEIR FIRECHANCE. And yes Fire damage is OP, 18% of any Healthpool only reducable by an over encumbered consumable somtimes even limited in use on a long cooldown no matter your angling (playerskill) up to 4 times... well, you tell me.

If it was a coal ship, I'd get it. However for research bureau points you can get much better/more interesting ships. Hard pass.
That american secondary turrets are so ugly, and even more on an italian ship.
It can get away with that american-style bridge (something like lauria's bridge would fit better), but the american turrets break all the cool lines it has.
This ship is utter TRASH can't believe I wasted 60k research points on this sub par mediocre pile of crap. Literally every other BB at tier 10 is better. The secondaries straight up suck and do not hit anything past 5 km even with 11.3 km range.
Man i wanted to get colombo for memeing brawling. But seeing this makes me not want it. They really should fix/buff those turrets angles in close quarters

No doubt he's in the best 2% of bb players, but some of his selections arent exactly optimal, Its just constructive criticism.
He also hardly ever used HE

Probably didn't consider low caliber guns (381mm). Most other battleships would overmatch it (27mm bow), but this one doesn't.
