Delonghi Dedica: How Much Pressure does the Pressurized Basket Make?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 лис 2022
- We found that pre-ground coffee produced 4 bar in the single walled basket, but how much will it be with the same coffee in the double walled, pressurized basket? In this video, we look at how much pressure is built up inside the pressurized basket of the Delonghi Dedica. This pressure is made artificially, through forcing the liquid through just one hole. Thusly, the espresso crema that ensues is made not from the resistance of the coffee cake itself, but rather through the turbulence of the stream of liquid as it exits the basket and hits the bottom of the portafilter, or in this case, the glass.

most violent shot iv ever seen :D
Haha, I know!
What's meant by violent?
@@youtubewts not smooth. Pushing quickly and with force. That's because of the single hole in the pressurised basket instead of the smooth dripping coffee videos you usually see on UA-cam Espresso shots
Is this violent shower that makes pressurized portafilter less tasty than pressurized?
Wow, i‘m a newbie, but that looks like hardcore channeling in the portafilter!
Great teaching lesson. He is an amazing teacher!
Thank you so much, Terri - That’s very kind of you to say! Thank you for watching! 🙋♂️ Tom
Did you seriously learn something here?
that looks amazing!!!
Hi Tom, does this means that pressure at the boiler and at the portafilter are (kind of) the same despite the 5ish bar spring valve at the group head?
This is good
Thank you! Cheers! ☕️
Amazing so dedica really can do to 9 bar!!
Heck yeah, it can!
Hello Tom,
I bought myself a DF 64, a decent grinder to get some nice espresso.Did you manage to get decent espresso with light/medium roasted coffees ? Is Dedica Delonghi "stuck" to only dark roasted coffee ?
Thank you !
Hey Daniel! I will be honest, I normally use medium dark roast. But I have found a way to increase the temperature. It’s called the steam mode hack. I’ve measured it with a temperature probe, and it also makes the extraction temperature more stable. Take a look at this video.

Would a pressurized portafilter not be subject to channeling? Or is that point 😅. I’m new to coffee in general so curious
That's a good question...I am guessing what happens inside a pressurized basket, is that the grounds are soaked, and mixed up like a soup, until finally they make it out through the one hole. It is certainly not a traditional extraction, since there is only one path out. In a traditional basket, the water can follow the path of least resistance, and that is where you see channeling.
Hi Tom ,I have dedica and smart grinder pro I tried with Lavazza cremoso beans and different grind grades from 12 to 3 and still got no rich crema ,any ideas ?
What is the date on the beans? Subtract 2 years, and that is their roast date.
You need freshly roasted beans to get nice crema, go to local coffee shop, take 250gr bag and give it a try
What’s the point of bottomless portafilter if you’re using that filter. Even tho that creates foam and no crema
Just to see what it looks like...
How does it taste? Does it taste like n espresso or does it only taste like moka pot coffee with foam?
Good question. I'd say closer to Nespresso than Mokapot.
Hi! are you gonig to do a diy of that presure gauge?
:D
Hi Rodrigo, here it is! ua-cam.com/video/Scsm9Vw6JrA/v-deo.html
Hello, my portafilter rotates even the original stock! I'm always upset everytime I use my dedica
Not sure what you mean exactly, but you might need to change your gasket...
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks, will bring this to the service center tomorrow. Hopefully it's just gasket problem.
How did you put 15 grams in standard Dedica portafilter? As far as I know, the max is 14
It all depends on the roast, but yes 15 g is quite a squeeze.
You can see how it probably got a bit messy when the preparation was skipped
It looks like Nespresso Vertuo coffee lol
What abt the non pressurized basket?
I did that comparison here: ua-cam.com/video/-u5BtGU_8wY/v-deo.html
@@TomsCoffeeCornerlink does not work anymore 😢
Good machine?
Very good, in my opinion!
tamper is more expensive than the Delongi appliance
Tamper was about €20.
@@TomsCoffeeCornermy wrong. It looked like a Tamper made by Pullman
A ha~ 9bar ish when pressurized...
I think higher.
Just hit it with the tamper
It’ll be fine
mine just blocks up
I know that can happen. Maybe try a non-pressurized filter?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner i ended up drilling out a larger hole instead of the pin prick size hole😂
@@bobcharlie7982 mine clogs up as well, i think its mostly due to the size of the grind.
The box says 15bars right, all the low budget ones say 15bars although 15 is too much and not good. Now u showed its actually 8-9bars.. Then why 15
It's just marketing. Most people think the more bars, the better.
