I have a huge issue when picking teams in Pokemon games. My brain won't allow me to ever have overlaps in typing, even the secondary types. Also, my brain will only let me use the new pokemon in that gen. So while I can get gen 1 pokemon in gen 2, I just could get myself to use them. Always had this issue since Blue way back.
Tbf I'm pretty similar, although for me if it's an old Mon that I haven't used before then it's fair game. This way at least I get to try something new out
I never understood people who have no type overlap like it's not a competitive team it's a playthrough and so what if you have like 1 or 2 pokmon of the same type

I have not been tested or anything but I am the type of person that straightens shelves when I am in stores and arrange all my books and games in very specific orders. I even line up my notes and stuff with the edge of my desk at work. It has no negative effect on my life but I have noticed it. I have managed to force myself to do it more recently but it is a thing I have always done since blue and red.
I always get Muscle -- the Machop trade for Drowzee in Goldenrod -- and carry her through the rest of the game. Makes Whitney possible, Jasmine a cinch, and is great to take out Pryce's deadly Piloswine quickly. Then of course there's Brock and Karen after that. Always a good time with Muscle.
Feraligatr, Venusaur, Ninetail(preferably you'd want Arcanine istead), Dragonite is the closest thing you're getting in Gen 4 to Gen 8/9 VGC Incin, Urshi-W, Rilla, and Pult/Throat Goat.
