I love a good IKEA hack, and my favourite way to make inexpensive IKEA pieces look more high-end is to give them a coat of paint. I've painted many pieces of furniture over the years, so today I'm sharing all of my tips and tricks with the hope that it helps and inspires you to grab a paintbrush and get started!

So helpful! I appreciate that you give us the “why” and not just the “ how” in your posts.
Loots of really good advice which I needed for projects I'll be starting now. Good timing. Thanks!
Omgdness I’ve been looking for a video like this for the longest time, thank you so much!!! I do follow you but I don’t remember you doing a video on how to paint Ikea furniture. So informative and you’ve covered all the bases, thank you thank you thank!!! 😊you’re the best! Blessings!
Thank you for sharing your tips with us. ❤️
I so needed this video. Thank you
You’re looking great! Keep up the hard work.
Thanks for the tips. I like that you use good technique. Some DIY channels just slap paint on, and one can see that it won't last. I do think it's worth putting the top coat on, since it gives extra protection. I really don't like painting, so anything to put off having to recoat!
Thanks for the fantastic tips on painting. Your hair is gorgeous, you are looking fabulous. Best wishes from Northern Ireland xxx ❤❤❤
VERY helpful tips Christina! I ❤ painting furniture and so needed this info. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Happy Weekend❣️
Thanks for watching & have a great weekend!
Thanks for sharing this information, Christina ❤
Many thanks, I've been wondering about this!
I'm so excited you did this video. I have a couple black kallax units in my craft room and I want to paint them to match all my white kallax units in there so they all match. I had to buy them at the time ikea was out of stock on everything.
Exactly why I’m watching this. My desk that I love doesn’t match my new kallax units and I’m so weird about that kind of stuff 😅
Great tips and tricks! Thanks and enjoy your weekend! ❤
Thanks for watching & have a good weekend too!
Great video, thank you.
I want to update some of my furniture but I’m so intimidated. It’s hard to push myself through the discomfort of not knowing if it’s going to turn out ok.
Just a suggestion, but if you start on something small (a little side table or small child’s stool, etc) that isn’t worth a lot to get you started. I think you will see it is easier than you think, and having a starter project let’s you get some experience before you try a big piece that is really important to you. Good luck!
I like Amy's suggestion to start with something small! IKEA has a great wooden stool that's fun to paint before assembly (the PERJOHAN).
Your video is a game-changer for DIY enthusiasts like me! Your painting tricks have the power to transform cheap Ikea furniture into high-end masterpieces. I'm inspired to try out your techniques, especially the use of different finishes and textures. Have you experimented with other materials or finishes to further enhance the high-end look? Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you DIY Mommy !!!!
Great info.
Beautiful
❤
This will definitely help
God why I didn't see this videos before starting my room project!!! I have multiple bedroom Ikea and Walmart furniture most are that laminated "wood" and I sanded maybe a little it but I did not have any primer, didnt allow proper drying time and didn't top coated at all. Now I know what to do and go back to it in full force now that I know what materials I need to buy and restock.
What is the green color you used on the IKEA sideboard, please? I LOVE it!!!
Thank you! It's Laurel Tree by Behr.
@@thediymommy THANK YOU so very much! 😁
Thank you so much for these useful tips! I do have a question, can the laminate boards or MDFs be stained like real wood? I was thinking that stain might give it a real wood look. Am I wrong?
I am planning to paint my IKEA laminate dining table, these steps are both helpful and timely. One question…have you painted a laminate dining table? If so, how long did it last? Thanks, for the great tips and great Canadian contest!! Love that I can find almost everything you recommend here in Northern Ontario!
Hi , have you dyed your dining table and what product did you use to keep the laminate face ?
Is it better to paint the furniture assembled or disassembled and do it after everything is well dried?
Thanks for sharing. I love the yellow paint on the entryway bench. What is that paint and color?
Thank you! That's Corn Stalk by Behr.
Did you do anything to the wood top of your lake house bench to protect? Wax?
I'm surprised that you don't cover your floors and tape off walls etc when you are painting inside, it would be good to suggest in your video to ensure you don't get splatter as rollers and sprayers always go over the edges of items. I do love the items that you have painted, gives me some inspiration!
I was wondering if I could use Spray primer and paint, since it will accelerate the process and may yield a more consistent result. please let me know since I'm looking to pain my white Ikea Alex Drawers and Malm Bed in a charcoal Matt Gray so it works with my Walnut wood accent.
Cool
Hi, thank you for all your videos and tips :) I'm planning to flip an Ikea book case and I've never flipped furniture before. It has a thin rear panel that is nailed along the frame. Do you sand it by hand (because it's so thin) or do you recommend sanding it with a machine?
You could sand by hand or use an orbital sander with a light touch.
What finish of paint do you use?
Cabinet and door paint is far superior to latex paint for painting furniture. Latex paint dries rubbery and is only good for walls. Cabinet paint dries very hard, is more durable and is much easier to sand.
