i've been habitually checking for winds updates since i was 13 (when i first finished the series) and 10 years later it gets wearisome so it is nice to see someone else summarize all the updates for me and especially from a fellow fan so thank you for not making this a short! subscribing now queen
Also i think well get this book for sure. What would be a miracle is if we end up getting "a dream of spring" written by martin himself and not someone taking over after Martin has passed
pretty sure GRRM has gone on record to say he wont allow anyone else to finish it if he passes. Cross the fingers and toes he sticks around long enough it would be a crying shame if he doesn't finish his magnum opus. The hope is he finishes "winds of winter" ASAP and then "A dream of Spring" should in theory be a whole lot easier to write once he kills off a big lump of POV Characters in Winds, isn't there something like 47 POV's if I'm not mistaken? he needs to lay down the slaying pen ha.
@@purefoldnz3070 I think someone worked out that when he said he had written 1100 pages of winds, and had 300 more pages to write, I think this was worked out as taking approximately 3.7 more years, something along those lines. It doesn't bode well.
Joe Abercrombie's First Law series. The first book is setting up the characters, his characters are some of the best. It has the same feeling as Song of Ice and Fire but very gritty
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. First book was good. I liked it a lot. Second book seemed like the writer was trying to date his editor or something. Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time) did the same thing with his Perrin/Faile storyline. No writer should ever do that unless the ENTIRE series is a harlequin romance (looking at you, Outlander!) so your readers would know not to pick up the books and get disappointed.
I'd recommend giving a chance to WoT, even if you aren't enjoying the beggining of the series that much. Many people say theyr favorite book is The Shadow Rising, but for me the ones that really blowed up my mind were Knife of Dreams, The Gathering Storm and so onwards the end of the series. All the first 10 books, building up the story to the ending, have various amazing climaxes, but some events nearing it, they are just theatrical.
Dear Kayla. Great video. I'd also like to be able to get Fire and Blood Volume 2 better than Winds of Winter. I think Fire and Blood is Martin's best book in the whole ASOIAF series. It's has a flavor of real history. In regarding to other books, I have read The Kingiller Chronicle book 1 and I liked it a lot. I need to read book 2 and book 3 isn't out yet so there is a lot of space there also.
I kinda gave up on getting the last two books in the foreseeable future. They may be released after he's passed if he's finished them and wanted to avoid all the backlash from the fans. or somebody may take over finishing the series when he passes. He doesn't owe us anything anyway, I would just love to see the story finished. It kills me that we have these 5 gorgeously crafted books without an ending.
Been thinking more about this - Have you read the Witcher series? The first one is The Last Wish. Another great (starting) show and world. I'd love to see videos on that series!
I haven’t read the Witcher series but have heard great things!! I’m just getting over being sick and in NEED of something new to start. I haven’t even heard of The Last Wish though so I need to look into that 😌
I had to stop reading the second book and never went back. Imagine an entire book of Theon being tortured by Ramsey. Only Ramsey is a woman and she continually tortures Theon to death then brings him back to life and does it again chapter after chapter. Several chapters of that and a brief skim through the rest of the book was the same... naw, I got other things to do than read about sadism and cruelty. The second season of the show was the same only less sadistic cause of ratings. Stopped watching that too. That said, first season and first book... they were great!
@@emrek99205 That scene actually happens in the first book. Well, scenes. It's brutal, but does serve a purpose. Can't say much without spoilers but I figured it was worth a try since GoT is just as brutal in my opinion.
not sure its super similar to the woiaf feel, but i really liked the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson! i still need to read his stormlight archive series too, but i feel like youd at the very least enjoy Mistborn, maybe? 🤷🏼
F&b part 2 is unlikely to release before winds , dream and the Last dunk and egg as it will contain info regarding Griff and the demise of Summerhall on detail spoiling both
@kaylachristenson9664 girl I'd love if it did. Spoiler or not . But it makes sense to finalize Asoiaf before writing down the ending to Daerys , Griff and Jon as part of that targ era
I love the era of Jahaerys and Alysanne! I recognize it wouldn’t make sense to adapt that part for screen though. Do you have a favorite era? I find it all pretty interesting though!
For me, it's been 5 years since I made my peace with the fact that this dude won't be publishing the rest of this series. Since the show is over, it feels like he's done with the asoiaf series, at least mentally. I don't care what update he makes, as I remember like yesterday that one of his updates revealed Winds will be ready until 2015, which was a long period to wait at that point. I remember being so mad that I have to wait couple more years until 2015 to read Winds. Only if I knew, lol. Interesting channel btw, hope it keeps growing, good luck.
That’s a good attitude I’d say. I feel that almost certainly something will get published for Winds but it will probably be a let down in many ways after all this waiting.
That book is never coming out, it’s been 12+ years since the previous one was released and I believe he still has a few hundred pages to go. Even if he manages to finish WoW in let’s say the next few years or so we might get it before 2030 but there’s still ADoS which is supposed to be the final book. I’ve seen some people mention that he wouldn’t be able to wrap up the series in 2 more books but it won’t matter, ADoS will just remain as a dream. We might possibly get WoW one day, but for me that’s not enough because we won’t get an ending from the books which means the only ending that we have is the terrible one from the TV show, thanks to dumb and dumber who decided to ruin it. I’ve stopped caring at this point honestly, but it really is a shame as that’s most likely the way it’s going to turn out.
That’s fair enough and I could see that happening as well. I think there are ways he can otherwise preserve some of the legacy, but it’s true it would be such a let-down to not have an ending to the series as, even if it ended similarly to the show, I believe the journey there would be better. I’m still holding a reasonable amount of hope 😝
@@kaylachristenson9664 yeah I’d just try not to keep your hopes up too much, George has made promises in the past and has missed many deadlines when it comes to when the book is supposed to be released. I also don’t think that it’s helped for him to have many distractions and events that he’s been attending over the years, imagine if he wasn’t involved as much with all of those and we might’ve gotten the book already. At this point whatever happens, happens. If the book still ends up being released down the road, great but if not then it’s whatever honestly. As I said, I’ve stopped caring because the show shouldn’t have ended the way it did. Once the directors ran out of source material from George, that’s when it all started going downhill from season 5 onwards aside from a few great episodes here and there. But the final 2 seasons especially season 8 is when it lost my respect and interest for the whole show and series, they seriously rushed and ruined all of it and that will never be forgotten by me and many other fans.
Agreed we will get this one and unsure about Dream. I think with plot and notes there is someone who could do it justice to finish though! Thank you for recommendation- I have not read that yet!
I like how are the fans just like the characters of asoiaf, they think winter won't come until it will

I'm so glad it's helpful, I'll did through all the (non) updates for you!
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is a trilogy that had a lot of influence on GRRM to write GoT. There are a lot of similarities.
Ohhh thank you! I’ll have to check that out ☺️
75% and 1200 pages after 12 years. That means we've another 4 years to go for a 1600 page book. Looking at a 2027 release.
Omg I hope not but you’re probably right
Also i think well get this book for sure. What would be a miracle is if we end up getting "a dream of spring" written by martin himself and not someone taking over after Martin has passed

I totally agree with the marketing campaign idea of publishing fire and blood vol. 2 with hotd season 2.
Right?! If they could pull it off it would reinvigorate so much of the fan base! I would be so excited
Joe Abercrombie's First Law series. The first book is setting up the characters, his characters are some of the best. It has the same feeling as Song of Ice and Fire but very gritty
More gritty than ASOIAF? Idk if I can handle that 🫣
More pessimistic. But great
Imagine if he didn’t publish yet because he wants to publish both Winter and Springs? 😂 it is good to dream sometimes….

i think it's about his ASoIaF cookbook
Wait that’s kinda it I would love the Lemon Cake recipe
pretty sure there is already a legitimate IaF cookbook 😂 if there's no lemon cake in there for sansa, I would throw a riot
I kind of need it if that’s true

So well put! Like as frustrating as it is he’s human and I can’t imagine the pressure he feels.
