I loved this... It touched the hart and whats amazing is how the darts community is one of the greatest communities out there and this is why i love the sport. Normal, working class people can become something great and become a figure that will never be forgotten... Everyone is appreatiated.. Thank you WWD
You're welcome Sam. But the real thanks goes to Julian. I was surprised at how nice he was and 100% willing to allow me to share his work. But yes, such a great community of darters out there. I'm super happy to be able to share this via my channel. By the way, did you see your name in the contest video?
+Worldwide Darts As always keep up the good work mate! 👍 And no I hadn't, I've just watched the video after you mentioned it and it gave me a good laugh 😂 haha!
When i see Jocky smile, its almost as if he wants to cry, because he's allowed himself an escape for a few brief seconds. It's the smile of a man i warm to but would not get myself too close to, tragedy waiting to happen, just like a whole bunch of us. RIP John Wilson, aka, Jocky Wilson, you gave me a whole bunch of happy times as a young man.
Two of my all time heroes were Eric and Jocky. Much was made of the Eric/Jocky rivalry. Can remember after one final (think it was Butlins), Eric gave a glowing tribute to Jocky, he said when they're on stage they're enemies but off it he had a big soft spot for Jocky. He said they were two lads who came from nothing, to now playing in front of millions and both were champions of the world. He said Jocky was the one player he feared, Jocky could turn up on a night and be anything and that he knew he had to be at his best to beat him. Both legends, both greatly missed. Thanks for this fantastic upload.
They both were my favs also ..I met Jocky 3 x times played him for little cash in a bar in Scotland and also he came asked where i was seated and in London sat with myself and 3 others in 1979 And shared oche both alone my final time in 1986 when Jocky came into empty room asking ok for throw at board with me and so we had some chat and fun was had :) Them guys at beginning of this filming just are local fifers and they seem 2 of guys to be very jealous individuals But many who played darts at the time of Jocky Wilsons rise to fame were very jealous individuals of the guy also Because lets be honest Scottish people do not like it when another becomes famous or has moved away and doing well for himself / themselfs in life ..I know its a Scottish thing sadly And as Billy Connolly once said on stage " its a Scottish trait that people who do well for themselfs when moving away from Scotland are frowned upon ". I agree ^ . Them few guys seen in the filming seen just are jealous individuals in which stands out like a sore thumb . No matter what Jocky done u get some who never shall say nice things ..and they are the jealous types of guys and its no wonder Jocky left Scotland for Wallsend in Newcastle to get away from their jealousy . Some people just are not nice persons at all this no matter what and shall stay within where raised all their days as are sad individuals ..And i bet they never hardly even spoke to the guy Although im sure Jocky knew deep down some them only spoke once he was seen on TV doing very well for himself ..Its no wonder the man got out of Fife at that time , as would be too many hangers on and not true friends i reckon Rip Jocky..
I remember Jocky came down to Manchester once when I was a lad and he played a few people at Old Trafford (Manchester United's ground) and I was lucky enough to get drawn out of the hat to play against him! He gave me a 200 head start and still killed me! Top lad and very much a man of his time! RIP mate!
That was fantastic. Grew up watching Jocky and loved his twitches when he threw, bit like Alex hurricane Higgins when he stroked the cue ball. Technically it didn’t make sense that they could be masters of their art, but just at that thousandth of a second when they executed their action it all came together beautifully. We mere mortals could try this a million times but could never achieve their brilliance. This is why we admired people like Davis or Taylor, but loved the geniuses that were Jocky and Alex. Gone but not forgotten.
Brilliant video. You really done him proud. My mums favourite player of all time. Not old enough to have seen him play at his best but those tales from my old dear painted a magic picture
This is beautiful dark romance and I can only say thank you so much for sharing this, it should be in the public domain or all rights go to his family. Rest in Peace Proud Fella RIP Jocky Wilson.
the man had something very special about him.everyone has a story about jocky. unforgettable character and obviously a brilliant dart player and competitor.h e was at the top for many years.he was a one-off.there should be a statue of him in Kirkcaldy
Was in Kirkcaldy for the first time a couple of weeks ago, (Dad and Grandfather from there). Hard not to be thinking of Jocky while walking through the town. 🌱🏴🤘
what a wonderful documentary about a true character. Thank you Julian for that. It's great to see how darts unite countries, regions or nations. RIP Jocky
Jocky always be my favourite darts player, in golden age of 1980s .Happy memories watching Jocky .such well made film . Very sad what happened to Jocky .my favourite moment watching beating Eric in 1983 in UK semi final . I always remember him . For his darts his character and that yellow shirt 😢
Thank you for the upload. This doc is very moving for so many reasons. Jocky Wilson the people's champion ♡ I grew up watching Jocky. I used to love watching him play and still do through youtube darts channels ;) When Jocky left his body a few years back my folks sent me two double spread newspaper articles about his life. Two UK newspapers had written the articles about Jocky. Folks who didn't even know about darts knew who Jocky was. It is a shame about the sound at the end. There is a little commentary at the very end when the screen is black that says 'Wilson has played quite splendidly' . . and then you hear the sound of a dart hit the board. Thank you Jocky . . you are still loved and missed . . Jocky's wife is an absolute legend too X x
I read an article about him in a german newspaper and this documentary was mentioned in it. Very interesting, I'm glad I could found it here. Thank you for uploading!
John Thomas Wilson, legend,, Bristow,, The Architect! Loved them both, Hope they're playing 1001 first to infinity, and as many 🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬 & 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 they can handle
Sid waddell gets a lot of due credit.. but i think tony green is so under rated as a commentator.. inspirational to say the least.. compared to todays commentators..
Nice documentary. I hope somebody does a full feature film, like the brilliant (Senna) doc. It would be a great watch. Plenty of footage of him and stories. The story from start to finish would be fantastic. Hope someone will do this and give this great character a film he deserves.
Just a small memory of mine. I was in the "Legendary" Old China Hand pub in Wanchai, Hong Kong in the early nineties. His photo was on the wall with a note saying he always came to play darts in there when he was passing through.
I live just up from Lister Bar (now coop). Some idiot tried to ram the cash machine couple weeks ago and brought half building down. Amazes me that there isn't a statue of him.
Such a good player he was and an awesome documentary this is.Maybe the stories of Jocky and Andy Fordham are perfect examples of what a bad influence alcohol makes on your whole body.Of course a glass of beer of and on again is okay but drinking few litres per day is just lethal for your liver and whole blood system.Such a shame how they both ended up.Btw thanks for uploading WWD.
Worked here in the 90s for a week and everyone kept mentioning this fellow called Ken, me been English couldn’t understand them well but I’ve still never seen this Ken fellow they kept bangin on about 🤣
For me also Darts also is a game and not a Sport but they are trying their utmost to turn it into a Sport and even want it involved into the Olympics lol But its a game to me ..And ive played on and off all my days since a young lad . Still do in my 60s .
@@fishingstevie8830 yes , the greed of the same people destroyed snooker as a TV spectacle . . . no doubt Darts will self destruct in the same manner give or take 10 years or so ...-To me the Game will always be rooted in the Pubs and clubs culture of pre/post war Britain ...I will never change my views ...lol.
Thank you for doing this project I also was a big JOCKY WILSON fan he is p!aging now with Eric bristow in heaven for eternity probably arguing all the time 😆⚰️🚬 rest between games and remember GOD'S chalking so no. Cheating love you both you guys were the best and for me the world is not the same fond regards DAVID RIDLEY!!!!
What a wee shame. Deserved to live a life luxery in the end for him and his wee wife. I'm sure he and Eric will be making plenty up there renewing there old rivalry 💚💚💚
Many people thought Jockey made big money. Far from it. Even today you have to be real good to make the big dollars. It is certain he blew what he made on travel expenses and booze and never banked a nickel. The booze destroys people
Eric Bristow was much the same. By his own accounts he said "I made millions, but I also spent millions". So it's fair to assume Jocky most likely made seven figures off the sport, but was declared bankrupt by 98 and ended up living on incapacity benefits in the same estate he grew up in.

Great video, such a shame only Eric paid his final respects to Jocky
Thanks for uploading. I'm from the Philippines... a huge Jocky Wilson fan... Nobody but Nobody is Jocky Wilson...
His wife was very gracious and honest with the guy. Most people wouldn't like someone randomly turning up for an interview, so she handled that well.
When i see Jocky smile, its almost as if he wants to cry, because he's allowed himself an escape for a few brief seconds. Great to see this little Scottish community help him find Jocky and his wife being friendly to documentary maker.

My all time favourite player. I still use his short shafts.

sadly missed...tremendous character , his family and town must be so proud
Very good documentary. RIP Jocky!
Really interesting to see how darts was before the modern-day PDC. Thanks for uploading this it was an interesting watch.

So happy he had his wife malvina, I was always told he died alone...
I was also told that, alone in a flat.
What a brilliant documentary thanks you for up loading it.

Very poignant. Warts and all - wonderful insight and well made. Cheers
Fantastic documentary. I had no idea he worked on the Mercat building. So, a piece of him remains in Kirkcaldy.
His wife has an amazing accent haha. Mix of Argentinian and Fife.
