Have been looking foward to this!!! Thanks again for another great review and Meaghan!!!. Couldn't agree more about T/M who should be winning everything -they are such beautiful classic skaters but -those awful programmes that they obviously don't like Candyman and this SP. Their FS is lovely though if they could skate clean. Their SP last year was to my mind fabulous.

Wow, you were pretty tough on J&C. A few observations: J&C *have* been working on the throw landings, and if you look at most of the throws in the LPs this season she is more upright and her back is straighter and she has flow. They are not as good in the SPs which again comes down to nerves I think, but Skate Canada she tripped in the setup so she did well to hang on. I also think they are underscored on their jumps, especially the 3Sal, which when done is stunning with transitions in and out. T&M have NO transitions into jumps.J&C's long programs might play to their strengths, but they evolve each year, which is the very thing you criticize T&M for not doing. Finally, I think the chinese pair are lovely but the positions of their lifts are messy. They might be very difficult but they are not nice to look at, especially one of them that has her in a split and all you see is her crotch. Rant over!

I think J/C are always pushing, but for me it’s just the little stuff that they need to work on. They obviously are pulling big scores and they seem to really trust their free skates. I’m not sure what is happening with the shorts, as I really *want* to like the program (love the music), but it keeps ending relatively sloppy. This is an extremely watered down pairs season and at least this team hasn’t slowed down at all, it’s just cleaning up that last little bit :)

And yes, I agree about the Peng/Jin with her lifts. It’s very much like their counterparts Pang/Tong. Never really fully extended or in the nicest position. Definitely a place they can improve upon.

@@TonyWheeler I think all of the Chinese pairs have this issue, even our beloved Sui and Han. I remember at the Olympics Sui and Han went up for (I think) their second lift and Belinda Noonan on the international feed said "thats a lovely shape", which it was, but the second position was the split position (same as Peng) and it was definitely not a lovely shape. I pine for the days of G&G's lifts in 1994.

@@TonyWheeler yes all good points. If I could improve one thing it would be Morgan's position in the throws. Does it cost them GOE? ps thanks for indulging me - not too many pairs fans in Melbourne, Australia!

Tarasova and Morozov's last lift lying on her back with her legs open is horrible, they keep doing it every year. They always start well but run out of steam and look really flat by the end.

Since you are all so surprised about Peng/Jin I feel I need to post a video from their SP from 2016/17. Here they also had fun, were involved. So to me it is not really a surprise how they perform. Just last season we have not seen so much of them. ua-cam.com/video/W-_ssmLZVT4/v-deo.html

Fly High I remember this program well and the music always stuck in my mind after Josee Chouinard used it many years ago as a professional. The music was fun, but I think this year they’ve really grown comfortable with each other and as performers and it is really wonderful to see!

Aren't all post-Olympic FS seasons always "watered down" due to pairs splits and retirements? That's how all the teams are able to go up a level or more in FS hierarchy. In fact it was after Sochi that Meagan & Eric won Worlds - now it's James/Ciprès turn. Since I'm posting this after Pairs @ EC - T/M just can't seem to hit their stride this season - not even going back to an old program is helping - they just aren't pulling in those big scores this season. Seniors freshman Boikova/Kozlovskii seem poised to overtake T/M by '19/'20.

so happy to hear someone (other than myself), recognize that t/m's free skate is an aljona/bruno redux. thank you! :-)

Your mention of Stolbova/Klimov made me miss them. I wish he hadn’t retired. Hopefully we’ll see her again with another partner. I think she has a lot of innate charisma and elegance. It’s difficult to take your eyes off of her.
