IMO, this video is a great example of how not to drive a Ryft. There is a sweet spot on the throttle just above where it cogs that would have made a large percentage of those lines trivial with the right inputs.
The Ryft is a bit overpowered on 4S. I much prefer the experience on a 3S pack. Ultimately, I found the kit to be a much better deal, as it gives you a bit more freedom for setup, especially in your diffs. Great video!
I love the look of the Ryft. I admit I was cringing when I was watching the video. Going full throttle at much larger rocks didn’t do the Ryft any justice. The Ryft is based on actual rock racer designs from the NRRA, National Rock Racing Association. If the rocks were “scale” to the Ryft it will do better, those rocks you were going head on into I think was a bit too much for it. Also in rock racing choosing lines like crawling makes a difference. Going full throttle straight into a much larger rock and the angle of the face of the rock will determine success scaling it. It seemed a bit overpowered but it might be my perception. Love the Ryft and I love the video content you both put out consistently.
Honestly don't like it.its too fast for the purpose and it doesn't look realistic at all when going over rocks. This type of rc need a little bit of weight, torq and speeds of no more than 10mph.
If you would like to see what the 1/1's drive like check out the youtube channels Busted Knuckle films and Madram11. The open diffs and stock electronics make it harder to drive than the real thing lol.
I’m not usually one to complain about electronics. If it gets the job done I’ll use it until it burns out… but my god the amount of cogging and the speed seem all off. You need at least SOME low end control 🤣
Nice video buddy! Good testing on the robustness of the RYFT. Next thing is to get a sway bar to stop it from torque twisting, and you are right about a stronger servo. Keep bashing!! 😊👍🏼
Nice review! The Ryft is definitely a different animal….I bought the kit and glad I did vs buying a rtr.. I installed a brushless sensored system and it’s much more manageable to drive! Fast enough to bash or bounce but able to crawl if need be…..it’s a pretty tough rig but really doesn’t have a purpose other than bashing. I’m working at making mine more of a crawler with maybe rear steer.
i thought it was way too much power with the 4s battery. useless at anything more than walking pace. uncontrollable and rolls over constantly. driveshaft pins. sent it back and got a Kraton instead. heaps more fun!
I love the idea of just sending RCs at rocks. Leaving the link ends as the weak point seems like a good move since you can probably get them by the bag :)
Looks like a ton of fun. I wonder why nobody takes the wltoys 12428 b put a brushless system on it and have such fun in such terrain. It will be cheaper to fix and like the k969 to a mini z fun wise.
The Axial Ryft is the most money you'll ever spend on a RTR RC truck after its principal cost. The UNsensored brushless system sucks, and you need to spend $300+ on upgraded alloy axle housings unless you like replacing the composite housings almost every battery pack. Then you need your obligatory 400+oz servo to swing those big tires and a 25tooth servo savor to protect your $75+ servo., Now find a tire/suspension set up where you needn't be 'righting' your Ryft every five seconds. Viola; You now got a $1500 Ryft that can do what it was originally 'supposed to do.
Common complaint: over-powered and unstable without sway bars. It meets the true definition of a bouncer, but not in a good way. Umm...where's Amber? :)
My son has the kit version he added weight to the wheels and put a hobbywing axe sensored brushless system it! It drives a lot better than the rtr version its a lot more controllable
The ryft is in a space by itself......to a point.... Its a menace to itself as others have said on 4s.. that the terrain its meant for is not the big rocks you went on more one of the last sections you showed in the videos sequence... A steep hill , rough ground. Chucking dirt everywhere.. an axial bomber is more the big rocks vs the ryft which is more a basher..

My mate told me the same! So only ran on 3s, I will try it on 4s for some fun in a future video 😅🍻
Neighbour runs his on 4s, and feeds it regularly with diffs, drive shafts, and trailing arms. He's tried every brand of drive shaft too.
I'm leaning towards the kit myself I think, a nice sensored setup as well to smooth out the low end.
I bought the RTR for 70$ over the kit. Not a bad price for an esc/motor servo trans/rec.
thank you for this comment i was wondering on that myself.
There were some good beatings there, intense action!
The Ryft is fun. Check out the custom bouncers that use Ryft drivetrain components.
Looks fun but man those electronics are noisy as hell , 5 minutes in and i'm getting a headache .
Nice video 😎
You bent the rear shock piston too! Man I wish I had one of these!
My son is running it on 2s cuz it’s too quick on 3 or 4s for him.
Ryft. IDK.Wendigo, Gatekeeper have locked axles.
💗💗💗💗💗

Looks epic, but it should feature a Sensored Brushless System for great/ real rock bouncing- with this setup it has too much cogging 3:21
You are 💯 right and also a better servo.
I think that's why they offer a kit version

So in essence its a LCG crawler with less grip and more speed 😂
I’m not usually one to complain about electronics. If it gets the job done I’ll use it until it burns out… but my god the amount of cogging and the speed seem all off. You need at least SOME low end control 🤣
ill do u one better, why is rock bouncing
Because FUN! 😅😉

I like the ryft just seems to run to fast for crawling. More a race car for rocks

Where have these guys gone? Trouble in paradise? I'm guessing we won't see them in YT again. Joe what have you done?!?
9:04pm please park the poor ryft, i didn't see any rock bouncing all i saw was rock wrecking LOL
i thought it was way too much power with the 4s battery. useless at anything more than walking pace. uncontrollable and rolls over constantly. driveshaft pins. sent it back and got a Kraton instead. heaps more fun!
The rock bouncing is actualy faster car demolishing process than the other types of driving...
That was some super precision driving 😂 Is it me or is that motor cogging a lot.

Wait till it starts to break.
I broke it already 😢
Is it just me or is the ryft really loud 😂
Great video mate, keep it up!
this thing looks like a HANDFUL, i like that ALOT.

This hobby aint cheap! 🤣🤣🍻
Excellent review Joe. Not sure the Ryft is for me, just looks like chaos and crashing 😅
Please get the newest traxxas sledge and also waiting for a comparison on sledge and Kraton
100% getting it! Will review it back in New Zealand 😉
Too much power for a crawler
Man you punished that Ryft! Looks like it could do with tighter diffs, better servo, and maybe a smaller pinion. Had more than enough speed!
So a fast capra then lol
omg all gas or no gas eh?
It’s a bit “spaztik”
LOL this is why people cant have nice things XD You smashed that RC mate. Funny Video though
Rip car
I was wanting to see Amber send this lil monster.
Sparks' "Silver Bullet" has me interested in the Ryft.
I put 2.2 proline hyrax with dual stage foam and injora beadlock just get some 5mm lock nuts and use lock tight really makes it alot more stable
Common complaint: over-powered and unstable without sway bars. It meets the true definition of a bouncer, but not in a good way. Umm...where's Amber? :)
She's been sick, but shes good now! She will be out filming next week 😊🍻
probably gear it down its Caugging a lot then i bet it would be epic
😂 great rock bashing Joe !
Fun vid 👍🏼
Would this RC be good for just cruising in dirt or off road? Thanks
My son has the kit version he added weight to the wheels and put a hobbywing axe sensored brushless system it! It drives a lot better than the rtr version its a lot more controllable
another great vid keep up the great work when ya gonna get a nitro car i recomend the traxxas tmaxx
It’s amazing although you have to put in a nice sensored motor and esc
Why do i want to watch Wellington Paranormal right now?
Lol 😆 🤣 love it keep up the great work guys!
It lasted long than I thought lol
what is the best cheep 1/8 scale rc ?
Such a unique machine, awesome scenery as usual brother
Kinda liking the "Exial Rooft" oddly enough. May get on eventually.
Was one I wasnt interested in until I saw it in person then panic bought it.. 😂🍻
Great vid

Nice work on the vid, looking forward to the next ones! Locked diffs and a sensored motor would help a lot in those areas I think.
I 100% agree with you there! 🍻
@@TheRcKiwis Think you will try adding the sway bar?
My gosh that poor truck..damn Joe did you really have to launch it downhill right into those rocks? How the axles didn't break I don't know
Full send!!! Great video.
