I had that same color bicycle back in early 70’s. I was a little boy I was born in 1967. I had the bike for one day and I was riding it and stopped at the blue star mothers they were having a flea market in Gerritsen Beach Brooklyn New York. I leaned the bike up against the fence went into the flea market. When I came back out the bike was gone. The neighborhood we lived in was really small. I ran back home and I told my mother my bike was gone. My mother grab me by the hand and we went walking through the neighborhood. Not knowing my mother knew where all the thieves lived in the neighborhood. We walked for about a half hour and we stumbled upon the Moore’s house they had a detached garage. My mother noticed that the garage door was cracked open and there was a light on note my mother was wearing high heels. My mother jumped over a 4 foot high fence in high heels. Ran over to the garage and open the door and behold all the kids in there were shocked and there was my bike stripped down and ready to be painted. My mother cursed at the kids which she knew all of them. And told them they better have that bike put back together and have it at her house or she would tell all their mothers. Sure enough the kids put the bike back together and had it at my moms house. And my mother retrieve the bike. I love her.

Thanks for sharing your story, stolen bikes are common and they are usually never returned to the rightful owner. Kudos to your wonderful mom for acting quickly and finding your bike. My little brother and I weren't as lucky when our bikes were taken from our front yard🤦‍♂🏡🚘

She's a real beauty, congrats on finding one in such outstanding condition. Thats exactly how I like them, clean & original. Restored bikes do look really good or one's that need to be are nice too but this one right here is perfect. Eventually I'd like to find one in every color, that's the plan anyway. I still need black & violet. ✌

Thanks! I was glad it was this clean when I got it out of the box. I agree, clean and original is how I like them too, you sound like me, get one in every color, I did that with my Krates and ended up getting every year, so the last 2 were hard to find based on specific year and color, 1969 Lemon Peeler and 1968 Apple Krate and then I thought I needed to get both Orange Krate colors so I recently was able to add the Kool Orange along with the one year Sunset Orange Krate with disc brake. I would love to post pics of your bikes on my community page, you can email pics with breif description to that70sschwinn@gmail.com

@@that70sschwinn He's a little more to the story. My dad restored the Stain-Ray in the basement as a Christmas present. Us kids weren't supposed to go in his basement shop but I went in and saw the bike in pieces. I still believed in Santa Claus and went up to ask why there was a bike in the basement. My dad told me it was my Christmas present and that there really wasn't a Santa Claus. I was crushed. I think I still repress that whole situation but I liked the bike knowing my dad had rebuilt it for me. After I moved out and had my own house, I asked my parents where my Sting Ray was. They told me they sold it at a yard sale a few years back, my Varsity was sold too. I do still have my Hutch mountain bike and my Peugeot 12 speed that I bought myself in 1980.

It looks like you can use this five speed stick shift for sport. Mount the bike on a trainer and fix the tension control to where you can do most of your aerobic training, building your aerobic base in second gear at a target cadence while fifth gear at that same cadence should take everything you have and nothing less to maintain for at least five minutes. You can feel free to pedal fast and slow in first gear for warm up, cool down, and recovery while pedaling fast in those higher gears to push harder. If the gears start feeling a little easier for you, get behind the bike and turn the tension a little tighter to the back wheel to make it harder, then repeat the body workout process that you have previously been doing, then you will need to turn the tension knob even tighter. Do this time and time again and you will get super duper duper duper good! This five speed stick, shown here, pre-exist all this craziness about twenty-something speeds, eleven speeds, twelve speeds, etc., and the long history of this bike makes me want to ask this question: how did people get extremely good at bikes in the old days of this five speed stick, shown here? When I say extremely good at bikes, I mean those people who ride at twenty-something miles per hour and stay in the twenties for the entire duration of an hour long ride. That would be extremely good and extremely fit.

@@that70sschwinn how's it going? That's exactly the range I like to be in, it's fair for both parties. However, as buyer's we get the better deal cause they're just so freaking cool.

I think a bike like this is getting close to $1500, especially with a nice seat and original paint and the screening just like that. Fastbacks are the least collectible but the prices are going up a little bit and they aren’t making any more original paint ones. I don’t have a yellow one yet but I will soon. I do have a blue five speed and a three speed blue and also a campus five speed and a three speed and also I have the rams horn that’s campus and violet 67 five speed Fastback and a 68 blue one and I may pay a little high but I want to get a nice one like yours. Thanks for the video

@@mr.e1220 Very cool! sounds like you have a very nice fleet goin and growing👍 Yes, I have seen the value of the Fastback go up just in the last couple of years, I'm glad I jumped on it when I got it. My Krates are also going up and happy to have found every year and every color, including both Kool Orange and the one year Disc 1973 Sunset Orange Krate. I would love to add a Fastback Rams horn to the collection 😏
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for watching👍🔧
