A cracking review of the suspension Kate. I can't comment on this bike but maybe I can on that engine. I owned a GSXR1000K6 that was the last of the GSXR's to have the same long stroke engine same as the the K5. If I recall correctly back in 2006 it produced 178PS and from my experience it was totally bonkers but addictive as well. The K6 had no modes to switch, ABS or all that electronic wizardry. It had a slipper clutch but no blipper or anything. Manual rev matching on a down change was the order of the day helped by the slipper clutch. It was restricted a tad in the first few gears if I recall to stop it flipping but that was it. I remember the brutal acceleration though at lower revs (by todays standards) that really felt like you could dislocate both arms. It was a brilliant engine in a brilliant bike and I loved it. As I say it was addictive and one of the major reasons that I sold it was because I wanted to keep my licence but I did enjoy 14K miles on it. It did destroy tyres at a rate though with a rear lasting about 2K miles top. For a new bike to still use a derivative of an engine that is nearly two decades old says something about how good it was. Many thanks for sharing.

You and Chopsy are the best bike channels on YT right now! I'd never buy a bike without test riding it but if either of you two like it I can be pretty sure I will too 😂
The first thing I do on a test ride now is get as far towards race track settings as possible on everything then move all the way to super soft and plush, if there's a really noticeable difference then I can be pretty sure there's a combination of settings in there that will be perfect for me, once I can take the time to find it! Modern bikes are amazing!

I love the comment RE: the throttle response from about @ 23:13 "it's feral" @ 23:17 - brilliant!!! Great review - especially for all the electronic settings. Good to know the K5 heart is still cracking on.
ETA: It looks like my next new ride I can say that. I do wish Suzuki would offer the same color palette on this side of the pond as in the UK and EU markets. Otherwise, your review illustrates the clear and significant upgrade of this trim over the plain 1000, 1000-GT, and 1000GT+ models. It looks like a serious competitor to the BMW R1250 GS.... If only Suzuki will address the mushy brakes so commonly mentioned this will be a top-shelf offering.

Did the Suzuki demo day a few weeks back and rode this 24' GSX-S1000 GX. Rode for 30 ish minutes. Cruise, upright, windscreen, hand guards, capacity for storage, factory hard bags, quick shift up and down are all big positives to have as part of the package. Negatives; wooden brakes, uncomfy seat, notchy quick shift, def not 2024 fit and finish, bland colours, boring noise, 150hp/105nm should feel faster. My current daily is a 765R, and the seat is better. As a tourer, the seat should be plush on this GX. The new GSX-8R has a better seat than both. However, as a competitor to the XR, Duke GT, and the Multistrada, the price point is going to win a lot of votes. The GS and the Tiger are pure ADV, no matter how they "sport" them IMO and aren't in the same category. Great review!

I have this bike and have now done over 3000 miles on it. I find the best compromise for the suspension in day to day normal use is to leave the preload in auto mode, with the rebound in M (medium) and the traction control in 2. If you set the suspension too hard and get to high speeds the bike can get a bit lively at the rear. Not a good idea for the road. This bike is definitely worth the extra over the GT model (I have now owned both) with the only thing better on the GT is the mirrors as they vibrate a lot more on the GX being bar mounted as opposed to wing mounted on the GT.

I took it for a spin while my 1050 was getting new shoes. Lovely machine, except the front brake which feels like it needs to wake up first and then get to work. Had a bit of heart skip when a turn was approaching and I just casually applied the same amount of squeeze like on the strom. Dealer said it's an easy fix with some different pads but ... yeah. Everything was set to medium so I didn't bother changing but the suspension felt good and the throttle was more then manageable. The screen didn't work for me, I guess it was set to high and with my 5'9" (176 cms) it was buffeting bad at arround 100 kph. If I would be into sporty touring I would get one but for now, I prefer the 1050 more.

Very interesting bike. Absolutely love this colour, and that exhaust music. Comes with a lot of todays goodies but you gotta pay a hefty few quid to enjoy it all. Can't see it finding it's way under my bum, anytime soon. I'm too much of a brainwashed GSX 1000 GT (and V-Strom) fan.

Rode both the GX and GT yesterday. The GX was better on the motorway but felt more at home on the GT. What also swung me more towards the GT is that a used low mileage example is around 8-9k. That's £4000-£5000 cheaper than a new GX.

Nice job on the suspension demo. I am sure you would have mentioned if it had the option to lower at a stop. Why any electronic suspension does not use that potential feature is a mistake in my opinion. You can have a long travel suspension and not lose customers who don't want such a tall seat height at a stop. That's where it matters.

I really like the looks from the front. Aggressive and sleek. Then you look at the side and it’s all mad shapes. What happened to sleek looking design? In that last shot with the outro, just look at the tail with the pillion seat on. Lumps, angles and mad shapes everywhere. Then they have the cheek to say it’s green when you get what, the tank and a strip of trim next to the seats? The rest of it is black and silver. I’m not having a rant at Suzuki, loads of manufacturers do the same but remember the days of something like the ZX6RR. Tonnes of green. The modern bike has a massive black patch on it, and the Versys is even worse. Can we go back to having loads of colour on the bikes, please? The sea of black plastics clad on loads of modern bikes just make them look cheap.

Most of the popular mainstream models from the big four Japanese brands are hardly covering themselves in glory from a styling standpoint these days and this bike is a great example of my point, this is not to say they aren’t making good to excellent bikes. Suzuki as a brand used to bring something exciting to the party at an affordable price… this looks bland, is too focussed on outright horsepower and is overpriced. It's hard to really understand how one would use this as a tourer as there is no info on distance rides and/or true highway speeds. Any bike will likely handle well between 20-50 mph. Aside from the well proven engine the detractions at this price range are non-movable wind screen on the move and no standard center stand. The issue that other reviewers have noted is the engine vibes on the seat, pegs and bars at highway speeds, once again curtailing it's use as a tourer.

I like the look of the Suzuki but the Kawasaki seems like a more premium feeling machine overall. For the same money here i can get a BMW S1000XR but im not spending that kind of $$$$ lol

@@anxiousappliance I often thought about getting a SV but went for the NT650GT Hawk / Bros in stead. It has the low weight I mentioned. I also own a Ducati Pantah 600 and dabbled with the Yamaha XZ 550 for years but these always give one trouble. In the end all these bikes follow the Pantah theme but none hit the low weight sweet spot like the Hawk. And I turn everything into specials for which I design and build my own fairings, although I presently have a lot of fun with a near stock red Hawk. What do you ride?

OOOPS. Now I'm thinking that I should not have made the comment below. My apologies. Of course this is an amazing bike. So as I watch your ride and the numbers I am wondering if you are rendering Kilometers per hour or Miles per hour. Kind of looks like Miles per hour. Maybe the Miles per hour is the way things are in England. My bad. I've only visited for a week or so in College back in mmmm1977. What do I know? Anyway. Best Wishes. How about a nice Kawasaki Z900RS for people under 6 feet tall. I had one for 2 years but sadly sold it due to dealing with car drivers gone brain dead staring at their cell phones while driving 70 mph or faster.I do miss the looks, handling and 111 horse power and may take the risk again. The ergonomics are great and it’s actually a 940cc In Line 4.I bought one new in 2018 for $10000 after taxes but now they are $14000.Better to combat the ridiculous inflation and find a used z900rs

That's an awful lot of money for a Suzuki and as price has always been the selling point from them I can't see being a big seller. What a daft toungue twisting name for a bike, have they changed the Suzuki staff canteen menu from noodles to Alphabetti spaghetti?

    • @Kxray1
      @Kxray1 4 місяці тому +1

It has all the features, reliability and power to back up that price. Nvm that in this genre of bikes it is still cheap. The name also makes sense if you look at their line up. S for sport 1000 for engine and gx for crossover.
      S1000 is naked
      S1000gt is sports touring
      S1000gx is crossover
