Exactly what I'm doing right now. Forgot math for not doing it for 2 yaers. Now I have to relearn them. I'll start my Mechanical class after a week so these videos are really helpful.
yes he really is a very generous person. If you watch the video of his TED talk, he says it all started with just making videos for his nephews(?) to help tutor them with math, but it grew from there :) Most of my school years were in the 1980s, well before the vast Internet we have today, and certainly long before UA-cam. But I only just discovered Kahn this year and he's been helpful both in my math and art history courses that I've been taking towards a degree in Graphic design.
I believe we are all wrong, (except the professor)we are suppose to distribute the exponent into each base in the parentheses, third power of 2 is 8, of 7 is 343, so simplified it would be 8 times 343 equals 2744. I think i made the mistake of not understanding the distributive property, thank you sal for the vids, you are making the world a better place.
Thank you! When that last equation came up i paused the video and worked it out. Based on what you showed before, i used a different method and came up with the same answer. I despise math generally so that was great, normally i'd have to do it the long way.
The fact that you were helped by khan academy 14 years ago and you are probably old enough to be married and have children by now while khan academy it still helping others such as myself.
Really helpful. But in school we are learning problems a bit more advanced like: x^-3 y^3 . 3x^0 and m^2 n^-3 / 2nm^3 So maybe if you could make a video on those, than that would be great.
@@scraper1000 awesome :) hope everything's going good for you scraper :) Not everyday someone comes back to comment on their post from 12 years before. Good to see you're still active :)
For the composite question, Couldn't we just work with the 3squared first? 3sqaured is the same as 9 to the 1st power. So we can just add the exponents 1 and 8 then multiply it by -2 right? I calculated it and 9 to the -18 and 3 to the -36 equals the same thing. So does that mean both methods are acceptable?
Fell asleep during the from his voice also because it was already 11:00 where I am but ur voice is the thing that put me to sleep haha wow...good morning
"When you haven't done it for a couple years" Yep, my problem with a lot of math right now. Brushing up on all of it because it's been too long and I need to know it all for a test.
agree with Sal on not remembering the rules directly and practicing them to the point that you remember them naturally.. Sometimes, I forget the multiplication rule while one exponent is raised to another, not because i don't know it, but because I have blindly crammed up the rules instead of focusing on the reason for the rules..
@kerolification in terms of funding i think khan is fine as he receives funding from various sources already. YOU however can repay him by acing your classes
You can rewrite it as 1/3^36, and that will make it positive. I have a question: Can't you just rewrite the last one as 27^-20, instead of 3^-36; are they not the same?
2 times 7 is in parentheses, it seems that the answer should have been 14 to the 3rd power if you were to solve the parentheses first and the exponents second.I may be wrong because im new to this. But if you have a explanation for my confusion it would be greatly appreciated.

I can see how you feel there, my Dad's school years were in the 1990s, he luckily had access to a computer, but those were probably limited back then.
