    yes he really is a very generous person. If you watch the video of his TED talk, he says it all started with just making videos for his nephews(?) to help tutor them with math, but it grew from there :) Most of my school years were in the 1980s, well before the vast Internet we have today, and certainly long before UA-cam. But I only just discovered Kahn this year and he's been helpful both in my math and art history courses that I've been taking towards a degree in Graphic design.

    I believe we are all wrong, (except the professor)we are suppose to distribute the exponent into each base in the parentheses, third power of 2 is 8, of 7 is 343, so simplified it would be 8 times 343 equals 2744. I think i made the mistake of not understanding the distributive property, thank you sal for the vids, you are making the world a better place.

    For the composite question,
    Couldn't we just work with the 3squared first?
    3sqaured is the same as 9 to the 1st power. So we can just add the exponents 1 and 8 then multiply it by -2 right?
    I calculated it and 9 to the -18 and 3 to the -36 equals the same thing.
    So does that mean both methods are acceptable?

    2 times 7 is in parentheses, it seems that the answer should have been 14 to the 3rd power if you were to solve the parentheses first and the exponents second.I may be wrong because im new to this. But if you have a explanation for my confusion it would be greatly appreciated.

  • @abhijitcomplete
    @abhijitcomplete 8 років тому

    agree with Sal on not remembering the rules directly and practicing them to the point that you remember them naturally..
    Sometimes, I forget the multiplication rule while one exponent is raised to another, not because i don't know it, but because I have blindly crammed up the rules instead of focusing on the reason for the rules..
