What lying? Hate? What hater would sit down peacefully with the parents of his son's killers like I did? Bug off, troll.

Thank you for sharing your story.
Your love and dedication to your son and daughters is abundantly clear. You are an inspiration that you had the courage and strength to become a public advocate for gun safety after an experience no one should have to face.
Your eloquence when you speak of your son is humbling. Your example in ways large and small encourages parents to love and hold onto their children a little tighter and appreciate our time with them.
I appreciated your deep and honest perspective that this could happen to anyone's child as we continue to live in a country where guns are far to easy to obtain. I am a teacher and I thank you for writing your book and the perspective you have shared.
I will share my copy of your book with others by donating it to our school library.

I just wanted you to know I have the utmost respect for your family and the others involved with this horrific tragedy. In the years and with the other tragedies after this, I have been inspired to get involved with anti violence/violence prevention and I hope that one day soon things will change. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for your kind words and for your interest in this issue. For such an "enlightened" nation we have, relatively speaking, a pretty serious problem with violence, in its many forms (gun violence, date rape, domestic violence and intimidation, bullying, trash talk, etc.)

Get real here. It's ridiculous to argue we need to outarm our military. It's OUR military. It's naive to think America will be overrun by house to house combat. We maintain our freedom not with guns but with THE VOTE. The nations of Eurpoe have FAR fewer guns, yet they remain free, thanks to teh vote. One of the least armed nations in the world is Islamic nation of Tunisia. They overthrew a corrupt regime (remember that one?) last year with social media and foot power.

wow. this video pulled at my heart strings. my young brother (13 years old)committed suicide on October 14, 2011. he was bullied pretty badly and could have easily taken the gun into the school and done what H&K did. but he did not. October 14 is his mother's birthday. he was finally put to rest on October 22, 2011. my 18th birthday. i came into adulthood not trusting anything. and after 2 years of drug addiction following the events, i came to the conclusion that my brother died because he felt noone would listen if he had something to say. so i chose to save my own life and go to rehab and help other kids from my brother's school who have been bullied as well as a few other schools. i just want to say from the bottom of my young heart, Tom, THANK YU SO MUCH. yur courage to stand up to what is the right thing to do has been a total inspiration for myself and my family who still haven't coped with the tragic lost we had in 2011. #RIPSamuelAlexanderDenham #RIPDanielMauser

My son purchased your book a while back. He has watched me read 10 or more a week. I haven't finished this one yet. Every chapter I read, I feel the need to go back and start again. I can't imagine the pain you and your family have gone through. Its been a year at least. I will get to the final chapter of that book. Even when I do, it will not be over. I'm so sorry that your family lost Daniel in such a stupid way. When I married my son's father, the first thing I had him do, was remove his guns from our house. I found out years after our divorce that he kept two. Scary. If either of my boys had found them, who knows what would have happened. I don't understand the need people feel to keep guns in their homes. I am so sorry that, that need, was a part of your son's tragic death. Daniel will never be forgotten.

Thanks so much. It's very touching to have Daniel remembered by others so many years after the tragedy. Yes, we had a great Christmas here--happy and healthy. Our adopted daughter is home from college. Our daughter and her family (her husband is a Brit, by the way), in Oregon, didn't come back but they were here in November for Christmas. And thanks to Facetime we were able to connect yesterday to open presents. Have a happy new year yourself!

Hello, Mr. Mauser. I just finished reading your book "Walking in Daniel's Shoes," and it was really an inspiring story. It was such a beautiful tribute to your beloved son Daniel.
I've done some research, as well as watched a few documentaries on the Columbine tragedy, and now more recently I read your book. What I've come to understand after all of this is how precious our lives truly are. I have also learned how strong human beings can be even when we are faced with unimaginable hardships. I really admire how you honor your son's life everyday in a positive way to inspire others. Thanks so much for your hopeful outlook on life. I did not know your son, but he truly seemed like a gentle spirit. Take care and God bless.

I'm reading your book right now and intend to put a glowing review on Goodreads/Amazon when I finish. I've been reading several books about Columbine victims and survivors because I want to hear their stories and not the stories of those who commit the crimes. I admire you for your drive and dedication even when you were feeling overwhemed. I was moved to tears by all the hopeful activism that came out of one seemingly offhand remark Daniel made that proved to be prophetic and a call to action. I love the metaphor of you walking in his shoes. And I found your book to be thoughtful and humbling. Grief from this kind of loss never just goes away, and you conveyed that well. Your book is honest about the challenges but also the moments of joy that can be found in both little and big things as the light finds its way through a heart that has been broken. Your family will remain in my prayers.
And I admire you for taking on this book project and not relying on someone else to help tell your story. I wish every victim of a tragedy -- no matter the tragedy -- could have a book like this honoring their life.

Oh come on, now. The fact that some people use guns for defense should never dismiss the fact we needlessly lose so many lives to gunshots. We lose a shameful number of people compared to our peer nations. And where in the hell are we "taking away guns from law abiding citizens"? Confiscate 300 million guns? Get real here, not paranoid. Sure, mental health is an issue, but the gun lobby has proposed NOTHING to deal with problem people like the Tucson and Aurora shooters. Get the facts.

You seem to be very strong. I'm in awe of you. I just wanted to say that I have just recently come across your youtube, after 5 years of researching columbine. I'm 17. I've spent a great deal of time with this subject. I've explored every aspect of it. I've visited the school and the memorial numerous times. The first time I went to the memorial site, I was reading about your son and I felt a hand touch me. I thought it was my mother but it was not. Slowly I felt 12 more hands (1/2)

Some people would claim that Dylan and Eric were victims of mk ultra, even though i highly doubt it but some of the school shooters do seem to be suffering from similar symptoms from the patients of mk ultra. I remember watching a video of the mk ultra experiments and there was something that struck me. One of the women claim to be hearing music in her head, then the director of the experiment laughs and asks her to hum it. The thing is, kiplan kinkle claimed he was hearing voices telling him to shoot people in his school.

Hi Tom. I read your book a while ago, and I just wanted to share a story . I thought of it today while listening to Elton John at work. In the event you see this, maybe it will mean something to you. When I first saw Thirteen Families, I listened to the song "Daniel" by Elton John sometime after it. And I thought about your son Daniel. The song's lyrics made me think of him. And then I read your book a while after that and read that Elton John's song was part of the reason why you named him Daniel. I have often found myself listening to songs and connecting them to movies, books or people and just assuming it's because I had just been watching that movie, for example. But I've started paying more attention lately because listening to music has always been a spiritual experience for me. And I'm starting to wonder if there are reasons why certain songs make me think of certain people or things. I just wanted to share and let you know. And I hope your family is doing well.

Will this book be in public library's?

No, I'm afraid not. It's a self published book not being publicized beyond word of mouth, so it's not likely to be picked up by libraries.

Thanks. Your English is fine. I'd gladly have is translated, but I don't see it getting that popular or me making money. Actually I've lost money on it.

Just finished reading this book! Very good book.Thank you for sharing your story. Hard to believe all you have had to go through since that horrible day. The nastiness and criticism that was shown toward you is unbelievable .. My thoughts on this is unless someone has endured the murder of a child they have no right judging you or your actions following the murder of your son... My thought is... Unless you have walked in Tom Mauser's shoes don't judge how he has walked in his son Daniel's !!!

Columbine looked like a decently well racially diverse school in 99. In meaning there was several types of races to attend columbine. I can understand the antagonist rage against society & wanted to say I'm sorry for being so attached to Littleton Colorado and chs
I was in first grade when I came home from school to see in on the news. I remember the students running out distinctively & I'm sorry your blonde haired son was removed by eric specifically. I only wish that Daniel would of ran. But he faught back. I'm sure with Daniels computer skills that he would of made decent friends with the seniors who took his life.

The only way at this point is to send me American cash in a letter. I'd have to figure out how much the postage. Usually it is at least the same cost as the book itself. If interested, write to me at safemauser at yahoo.com.

Hello Tom, I was just wondering if you've seen the PureFlix movie "I'm Not Ashamed", about Rachel Scott, one of the other victims. If you have, what are your thoughts were on it? I have been hearing both positive reviews as an inspiring story, but also lots of negative reviews due to the fact that it exploits her death, as well as the overall tragedy to preach a religious agenda, and the fact that it is based upon an exchange between her and the killers that may not have occurred.

Now being fully honest I wish Harris and Klebold had been caught, and not have had the opportunity to turn their guns backwards, and pull the trigger. Mainly so justice could’ve been served
