A couple of cool things (for me) about this video that I identify with very closely, are: 1. That Dave’s life changed when he saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan on February 9th, 1964, which is a date that also changed my life after watching that show. Dave was 11 when he saw the show, but was 8 when he started playing guitar. I was 7 the night that show aired, but I pestered my folks about wanting a guitar, which I received exactly four weeks later on my 8th birthday. Beatlemania is inexplicable unless you were there, during those times. They totally changed my life! I’ve been on the “95-99% of all solidbody electric guitar tone comes from the pickups, and if you swap the ones in one guitar with those in another guitar, the tone will follow the pickups.” I think Dave totally proved that with his armory of SG Jrs, from 19:24 - 20:08. There are videos all over UA-cam where one guy plays chords and a riff into a DAW, which in turn displays the waveforms of what was played. Then the guy saws off a huge chunk of the body and does the exact same thing into the DAW, which not only sounds exactly like it did with all that wood, but the waveforms match up perfectly, too. Long story short, he butchered that guitar, sawing off piece by piece, until all that was left looked like a crazy, headless old Steinberger...and it STILL sounded precisely like it originally did. Along the way, he installed metal rods so he could replace each and every chunk of wood he sawed off...still no change at all. I call that myth: busted! 😂 That’s just the beginning - there are tons of “does solidbody electric guitar tone really come from the type of wood you use to make it?” videos out there. Watch them!!
