@@CadgerChristmasLightShow that would be a really cool episode idea. They could probably pick up a few junkers from any number of scrap yards, do some basic compression tests, etc. to make sure they're fixable and then have different people compete to fix them. I'd watch a few videos like that. In order to make it an actual prize though and not just the chore of now owning an old car that will need more work... they could give away whatever it costs to make the cars road-worthy again, like newer tires and brakes and filters etc.
I just like seeing people fix stuff that's old enough to be cheap enough that it's something I can relate to. There's no way I would have guessed the crank sensor or fuel pump itself on such a new car.. not without a scan tool anyway. 😅

Not quite. In this instance the "catalyst" is anything thats speed up the process. The term was or is used to differentiate between a petrol and diesel engine. A diseil is combustible without spark while the petrol definitely needs a spark for combustion to happen. The terms used in chemistry would be more specific but for mechanical engineering he is 100% correct. You can also use the word catalyst to define a person or event that quickly causes change or action.

@@scope81 Hmm I can't say I agree. I currently live in Florida and have lived in Pennsylvania as well. I've taken more than 100 Uber rides and also rent zipcars sometimes, and I can count the amount of manual cars I've seen on one hand. Also, I totally disagree that people would be better drivers if they drove manuals. Im my opinion, the reason that Americans are not fantastic drivers is because of how the driver's license is obtained here. Where I'm from (Holland) it cost me over 2 grand to get my license, because only official lessons at a driving school will count towards getting your license. Meanwhile, American drivers learn alot of their driving from their parents, which logically means that shitty drivers have kids who tend to also be shitty drivers, thus the cycle continues. I don't see why driving a manual car, which is much more difficult than driving an automatic, would solve anything.

It's a very technical MOS with a high failure rate where you have to learn how to use a lot of different telecomm equipment to build out a comprehensive communications network incorporating several different comm. MOS'es, and in order to pass the course at the end 3 major communications sites are integrated and you are given a total of 140 minutes to troubleshoot 13 different problems (each problem is a separate instance where you are told the symptom(s) and from there you have to identify and correct the problem). With that said, I just recently purchased a 2011 Scion TC from a car dealership that was a trade in with a long car fax lol. Although it was in a wreck that made the car unable to drive off the scene and had to be towed away it runs fine now and comes with an aftermarket exhaust which sounds really nice. It's also my first manual, it's really fun to drive and was wondering how I could improve it's performance and thought I would ask if you guys could do an episode or series about that type of vehicle. Cool idea. As a tech myself I was shouting out what to check lol. He did a really good job.
Trick I used to do when training new techs at my shop was to put clear tape around the posts/terminals on the battery and put the cables on. Couldn't see the tape and if you went to check batt. voltage on the post it would be good. Had to check on the post and the cable end.
Another was reverse the hoses at the fuel pump or put the fuel filter(if it had an inline) in backwards.
Edit: checking that safety switch first thing was epic though.

  • @antaris8111

When you are chasing a fault you should always start at the load where possible. No point trying to find/test a fuse and a relay when you can verify both are fine but just checking power/ground at the load. In this case checking power/ground at the fuel pump would confirm that both the relay and fuse are good and the pump is bad.
