Doug, glad to have you review and test drive the VinFast VF8. I am one of the early adopters of the first model, the 2023 VF8 Plus City Edition. Drove everyday with more than 22,000 miles for more than 13 months before I upgraded to the 2024 model. Never had big issues with the 2023 City Edition, other than a few software updates. Love driving it, especially the ADAS on Sacramento freeways during commute, and never look back to ICE cars. Still get positive compliments from other drivers on regular basis. Many people liked the design because it looks more like a normal SUV, and they particularly loved the luxurious and spacious interior. For those interested in learning about my user/owner experience with the VF8, I shared many videos on my channel.
cháu là người theo dõi chú từ những ngày đầu tiên nhận xe, hâu như không bỏ sót một video nào. cháu thích cái cách hâm mộ của chú với vinfast. chúc cô chú mãi hạnh phúc như vậy ạ
A lot of people forget that Pininfarina didn't only work for high-end sportscar manufacturers. They were a design studio devoted to many other vehicles that are similarly anonymous such as the Hyundai Matrix, Daewoo Lacetti, the newest Mitsubishi Lancer, and several Peugeot sedans, so seeing them do a more high production model isn't that unusual. I also had to laugh when Doug was complaining about the anonymous styling both inside and out. It sounds like his big complaint is that there are almost no "quirks and features" for him to point out.
His point is that its not bad, it just doesn’t have character. It’s objectively nice to look at, however its also just forgettable. If this competed on price it would probably be great value, but it isn’t.
Honestly, I am very impressed with VinFast's electric car models. When I was in Vietnam, I used many public transportation services, including the taxi service with VinFast electric cars. Even though I was only in the back passenger seat or the front passenger seat, I could feel the excellent quality of the car, with smooth, reliable, and solid performance. I have used cars like the S450, Macan Turbo S, GLC250, and 4Runner, and I'm pretty sure that if I have the opportunity, I will try to own my first electric car, either the VF8 or VF9. People in Canada will definitely find the VF8 and VF9 intriguing.
In Vietnam, Japanese and Korean cars were once revered, and Vinfast cars were disliked more than anywhere else in the world. However, Vinfast now has a larger market share than any other car brand in Vietnam. When buying my car, I was sure I would choose a brand like Toyota, Ford, Kia, or Hyundai. Vinfast was somewhere at the bottom of my priority list. However, after test driving it twice, I decided to buy a Vinfast. What I like most about Vinfast is the comfortable, solid, and safe driving experience. In Vietnam, many people jokingly call Vinfast a tank because of its sturdiness and its ability to protect the driver in serious accidents

Currently (no pun intended) a lease on a VF8 in Canada is unbeatable. I see a lot of them in and around Montreal. Vinfast's rookie mistake was to release this model to reviewers before it was fully ready, but to their credit they took the criticisms on board and fixed them.
That's right, Vinfast shortening the time it takes for the car to run on the road is a mistake. But they are also overcoming their mistakes by listening and correcting them. That is something worthy of praise.
If only Vinfast delayed the launch by 6-9 months and invited some or the same auto reviewers to test the "pre production" and "prototypes", fixed all the deficiencies, then officially launched the VF8, I think reviewers would have been blown away by the refinement of the VF8.
I don't. They have two dealerships in prime areas (Laval and West Island) and I've seen less than 5 models in Montreal. Model Y is unbeatable. This feels like a bad experiment.
@@ryansmithc I've seen more Vinfasts in the last month than I've seen Rivians since they were launched. There are a couple of VF8s I see regularly, I assume they live in my area of the South Shore, but we won't count them since it's always the same two. I have to schlep downtown to the CHUM 3 times a week and I regularly catch a glimpse of Vinfasts. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but I see more VF8s than I see BYD taxis, for example.
I use vf9 and it is very good, full size car and hidden door handles and many very modern options,The most impressive thing to me is that the car is as sturdy as a German car
@@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 she's a big girl but ngl, i love it, i test drove it almost a year ago, a very early production model, my wife didn't want to drive my car, citing it's too big for her so i had to cancel the order, my specs was emerald green exterior, brown interior with the glass roof, 7 seats version. Still want it as of now but i don't want to get rid of my current one.
I like Vinfast VF8. Why? It's because I am driving one. I used to spend $100 on filling up the gas tank of the same size gas-powered SUV, but I now pay only about $40 to charge from 12% to 90% ($0.58/kWh for non-member if you're a member, you pay only $0.40/kWh, and you would pay about $33, stead of $40) at a supercharging Electrify America. With a 65% battery from 80% down to 15% on a single charge, my VF8 Plus can go roughly 170 miles during the normal weather condition in California! The best thing is now that I don't have to nervously look at the gasoline prices whenever driving past a gas station! Also, I no longer smell or see any oil leaks on my garage floor. YESSSS!
I own a 2023 vinfast vf8 plus. I am making a vehicle review soon. The reviews arent fair at all. This is an exceptional vehicle worth every penny that ive spent.
The vast majority of vehicles are so good now the reviewers are always looking for nits to pick. Or to create a viral Meme with! 🤣 Vinfast let people test cars that weren't set up for the market they were tested in. For example, test vehicles having Vietnamese navigation maps and other weird stuff like that. Doesn't inspire confidence.
@cbotten106 not when i did my drive test. Everything was good. The thing is these "reviewers" deliberately look for one thats in the worst condition and review it and another like donut. Crying about headache. I got 2 kids riding this thing all day and my wife gets car sickness sometimes but no one ever complaint about that since we got this vehicle. Other crying issues about the vehicle that i have not experienced. The problem is these guys dont own the vehicle. Theres a difference in having it as your personal vehicle and just sitting in it for 20 minutes. The vehicle has a 10 year warranty. Since i got this vehicle they havent failed to deliver their support or concerns everytime i contact them.
Really appreciate that u gave them credit for having a pretty decent product on it's first try and also giving them genuine honest good faith criticisms and abuse in what they need to improve on to actually be competitive. I'm interested to see how the VF8 and it's future products improve after seeing your video cause Ik they're definitely watching ur vids to see what they gotta do better which is awesome that u can have that kind of positive influence
I had that style of turn signal stalk in my older X3. It does not take long to get used to using it. However, as stated, there is no real reason for them to operate that way. It does not solve any problem, or make things better. And when someone else drives the car, you have to explain to them how to use the turn signals. Something one should never have to do.
@@MikeKayK it works similar to a digital camera shutter. There is a noticeable “half click” on the stalk that cancels the turn signal. Also the “half click” does a 3 blink flash so tbh I find myself just flicking the turn signal with the half click for a quick 3 blink when changing lanes. The turn signals cancel natural when making a full turn . So cancelling with the half click is a non issue 99% of the time. It is a needless change tho. The more outrageous thing here is the nightmare fuel hood latch.
I dont get how is it so hard for people to understand that turn signal stock, first time I drove my dads 340i the turn signal only got me once, then it instantly clicked for me how it worked.
I just got back from Vietnam a month ago and I saw so many vinfast cars SUVs there they are huge in Vietnam of course being they are from there. Hopefully they will make a good go of it more competitive market drivers down prices
Citizens aren't buying Vinfat. It's just the communist government officials who are purchasing them for propaganda purposes. I see mostly Toyotas and motorbikes when I visit Vietnam
@@jeremyb456 of course they would have a lot in their Capital. In Dien Bien Phu, also in the north, they just held a 70th anniversary celebration of their victory and they paraded Vinfast cars for propoganda purposes, so the vehicles you saw probably just came from that celebration 😂
@@BrentWong-hh1im How long has you been in Vietnam? They are everywhere in the streets of Saigon, many as taxis. Also those Vinfast that were used for parade are customized VF8 with the roof saw off. I highly doubt that the Vietnamese goverment would allow ton of those parade cars driving around street as they definitely do not meet crash regulations (no roof and no support bar).
There's a vinfast dealer near where I work. The giant bright sign and modern architecture stands out compared to all the older and more rundown buildings.
Huge respect to Vinfast for actually listening to their customers and reviews to fix their cars' issues for the next model year. As someone who likes mostly German cars, I honestly don't think this car is that bad. I agree with Doug on everything he said about it
They had complaints of steering issues for months but ignored them. Now a family of 4 is dead because their vinfart crashed into a tree in Pleasanton, California
@@michaelvn9524 What you say is not true, Vinfast knows how to listen to consumers very well. You can check out the software updates. Regarding accidents, any car on the road can cause an accident (unless you sit at home). Tesla, Toyota, Hyundai also caused many fatal accidents.
@@michaelvn9524 According to an official police spokesperson, speed may have been a factor. Unfortunately, youtube won't let me post a direct link so you'll have to search using keywords "vinfast vf8 accident Pleasanton California" click on the pleastanton weekly newspaper for the article. So while the VF8 has steering related complaints relating to the software, it may not necessarily have ben the (main??) cause of the accident.
I loved these cars. Spent a month in Vietnam last year, and a lot of my Grab's were a vinfast. They were luxurious, comfy, and very tech forward. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy one, but we have already put a deposit down on a Rivian, and we don't need n extra car.
I assume you booked Xanh SM and not Grab (like Uber in SE Asia), because I've never had a Vinfast when booking Grab and I'm every few months in HCMC and always heavily using Grab (also just recently in Hanoi and Danang for a few days).
For $199/month lease with $0 down this honestly seems like pretty good value. They're probably giving heavy discounts while they refine the car and can compete at a higher price with Tesla, Hyundia, Ford, and the others
The same thing that happened to phones is happening to cars. Just like every phone now is simply a glass slab, every car becomes a wheel and a central screen.
Yeah every phone looks identical. Throw a bunch of clean phones on the floor and I wouldn't be able to tell you what one was new, 6 years old, or was a flagship model just by looking at the front (phones off). Cars like this where they adopt the Tesla look and ditch the instrument cluster are the worst offenders, it's just a tablet on the dash (with shovelware crap apps pre installed too just like a phone!)
The irony is that it’s illegal to use your mobile phone while driving, so I never understand why using a giant tablet on your dashboard to operate even the most core functions such as climate is allowed!!
The way automakers are ditching buttons on dashboards for a big screen is a terrible idea, when your travelling down the highway at 60+mph you’d wanna be pressing something and KNOWING you’ve pressed something to operate a core function rather than glance over at your giant touchscreen for about 2 seconds to check if it even registered your touch or if you tapped the correct area.
@@real_swiftydragon Indeed. If you have not heard of that incident years ago; a driver in Germany crashed when they were accessing the touch screen of their Tesla to use their windscreen wipers. They were even given a fine as well.
@@BrentWong-hh1im Car And Driver did tested the range on the VF8 and they got a better result than what it was advertised, most manufacturers use their EPA estimates to be the range in promotional materials but those estimates most of the time are too unrealistic. Here in Germany i've only see 2 of these so far, but not privately owned, however i keep seeing more and more BYD and "Lynk & Co" . My old Mitsubishi had a calibration setting on the sunroof. You could set a stop function on opening. This was good to avoid a buffeting noise at speed when sunroof was fully open.
If we're being honest there was heavy xenop with the initial critical reviews, people just couldn't accept that Vietnam had the right to try their hand at car development. I'm in Malaysia and it's good for them, constructive criticism is fine but there are still large swathes of westerners mainly Americans who still can't accept Korean and other Asian cars
Their previous carmaking experience was essentially 4-5 years of making rebodied BMWs and Chevys, and they've never designed an entire car themselves. Thankfully EVs aren't TOO complicated to make. Hire the Italians to draw the body and interiors. Hire the Chinese to source the battery and drivetrain systems. Hire some Indians to write some of the software. Hire some Germans to consult on building a modern(ish) car factory. Slap all those things together. Hence you get a working car, but not well integrated car, since all the different major components were farmed out and quickly slapped together.
Says who? Kia was a crappy car company for decades and yet they are now being one of the top sellers right after the success of the Telluride. Do you think people just suddenly like a car company? Doug I just leased a 2023 VF8 "City" Edition; the "bad" one. VinFast updated the suspension (somewhat) on these ones as well, and the tech bugs were updated and fixed too. $149 a month lease right now with $0 down is astounding. At the Vancouver International Auto Show there was a Vinfast stand. They had the VF8, VF7, VF6 and I believe the VF9 as well. The 7 and 6 were concepts and the 9 was a production model.
I never would've thought that a significant part of a car review would be reviewing its operating system. Then again, at one point I never expected there to be touchscreens, either. One surprise in car design that I'd like to see is a return to the beautiful styling of the 1950s and 1960s.
@@manenwan thats the problem. They lease to test and most will return. How can vf earn just by leasing? They are burning money which they transfer from VN outside
It's funny that I chose a Vinfast car because in the past 2 years I have witnessed a lot of accidents :)))) I live in Vietnam. At first, I didn't pay much attention to Vinfast cars. In Vietnam, Toyota is number 1. Because Toyota's cars are very durable and rarely break down. However, after about 2 years, when I noticed accidents on the highway and on the streets between Vinfast cars and other brands, I realized it. It seems like other car manufacturers don't make good frames and bodies. They are often crushed and the airbags do not work after a collision. Even if it is just a small collision, the front or body of some car brands will be seriously damaged. But with Vinfast cars, in many accidents I saw that the car frame was still intact, and the people sitting in the car were still very safe. Most recently, the VF8 had an accident on the highway (due to another vehicle accident first). The car was stuck between two trucks, but only the front and back were dented, the body and windows were not broken. I can't post pictures here for everyone to see. Yesterday, the VF9 also had an accident on the highway due to a sudden collision with the two cars in front (the two cars in front collided with each other due to avoiding obstacles). At this time, VF9 is rushing at a speed of 120km/h. The VF9 car weighs nearly 3 tons, meaning the pressure from the collision is huge. The front of the car was completely deformed, but the driver only suffered a broken leg. I can say that compared to what's new, it's superior to other car brands, I don't know. But when it comes to protecting human life, for me Vinfast is currently the star in my heart!
Just picked up a plus today for my 16 yr old son's birthday. 3 yr lease, $250/mo for the lease and approx $3400 in fees, tax, and tag. Great deal on a good safe new car with an excellent ADAS system. Dealer is 4 miles from my house if there is issue. Works out cheaper than putting him in an older car that will need repairs. Learned the hard way there by putting my oldest son in a used up 5 series BMW that broke something every other week...
I got a great deal late 2023 + model and been driving it 3 months now. Great review, but need to correct a couple things. - You keep saying the 2023 model was bad and 2024 has all the improvements. Yes the 2023 CITY version was a bare bones basic edition, was bad and not market ready. All those terrible reviews last year were based on that. But the late year 2023 + versions were all corrected and are basically the same as the 2024' you just reviewed. Those CITY ones are no longer sold. - You dont like the design, and you knock the "cool" factor. Its your opinion and thats fine. But i can tell you most people that see mine or go for a ride really like it. Much better than Tesla. Tesla is the plain jane now, and VF8 stands out. I think you are the minority based on feedback me and wife are getting. - True its maybe not a buy if the Model Y is selling at a lessor price for same trim. But there are great lease deals out there and I got a great one for one of the last 2023's that was still on the lot. - You didnt mention anything about the 10 year bumper to bumper warranty. No repairs to worry about for a decade ....... is way beyond any competitor. Even if you plan to resell down the line that goes with it and your buyer will value it. Fantastic. - In the states it might not be as price competitive with Tesla and rebates, but in Canada it qualifies for full rebate credits and pricing and deals here make it a good value consideration against competitors, including Tesla. - I agree the door opening could be better. - Also the Heads up display is fantastic.
In Vietnam, the price is even higher than in the US :D. it is 56,000 $ here. American and Canada can buy it cheaper. But now Vietnamese can be afford for a cheaper model VF3, around 12,600 $. Yesterday, 30,000 orders for it only within 66 hours. And it will be available soon in the US by the end of this year.

Plus, it offers electric sunshade cover * Great power with decent range * interior/exterior are way nicer than the boring minimalist Model Y. * Priced reasonably competitive * AWESOME warranty coverage
Less power and range. Interior looks worse in my opinion, it's nearly as minimalist with some cheap looking plastic and cheap, tacky buttons added. Way overpriced for a brand with ZERO reputation. Warranty is useless if there are no service centers, if they are overwhelmed, if they suck at repairing issues, etc. A good warranty is something a gullible, uninformed person thinks will solve all their problems. Then they find themselves in a vehicle with annoying problems, on a 1-month waiting list to be seen by the service center, only to be told "issue can't be reproduced" or "this is normal."
@@MikeKayK Less power and range? VF8 is a dual motor. 264 miles of range and 330+ HP is pretty awesome. They significantly improved reliability, quality and design which is why they're so much more popular. Like I said, if new your car lives in the shop or you spend most of your time waiting for the shop to schedule you in to check your annoying malfunction (which they may not be able to replicate or may tell you is normal), no amount of "warranty" is going to stop you from being extremely annoyed about it.

Thanks so much for a honest review, Doug DeMurro is honest to tell a straightforward story. Buy a vinfast car, 53K, is better choice than tesla Y, 47 K. Quite an oddity... Even if you don't want to get a Tesla due to them being literally everywhere in some areas, this doesn't offer a whole lot, and you are buying from a new brand that doesn't have an established reputation in the US. Seems like a hard sell to me...
Let me tell you. This product was designed and roadmapped time ago and was meant to compete with another market. Also the transition from gas to ev added to the cost. Also, in that timeframe the chinese brands have cornered tesla into upping their cars and lowering their prices, so the vinfast was not prepared for these changes and was pretty much DOA
There are still issues. On a 2024 VF8 test drive, they couldn't open the hood - the latch was broken. Highway driving is still questionably noisy and a bit rough. All the "leather" is faux/vegan. The calibrate button for the sunroof is actually a good thing. Sometimes these are buried in a service menu or you have to use arcane button commands. Doug forgot to mention that the rear seats can recline. I did my review back on January 2nd.
I laughed at the "quick controls" menu. You know what's quick control? Stalks and buttons with individual functions. I know, revolutionary idea. I mean I can’t say it’s worth $50,000 BUT you can lease one for $299 a month which is insane, same as an Altima, Corolla or Equinox. It’s a lease so reliability doesn’t matter and this is definitely cooler
To have key features of a vehicle function solely through a touch screen is absolute madness to me… I live in an extremely cold climate and I sometimes wonder if car companies even consider cold weather at all anymore…

14:48 i know why. because KPH. in other markets (including where its made) they use kph. so the display goes to 300 because they decided 300kph was a good sounding "top speed", kinda like how my 15 year old 2.5 liter camry speedo goes up to 140mph. its easier just to display mph then to full convert everything to mph
Doug! I have to course correct you on the BMW turn signals thing. It is apparent you don't own a BMW and haven't spent more than 30 seconds trying to explore how it works. The BMW turn signal switch has detents which serve a couple purposes. The main purpose of the detent is the lane change feature. You press it up lightly to the first detent and the signal will flash 3 times in that direction. The OTHER purpose of the detent is to cancel the turn signal. Yes, if you want to cancel the turn signal and you go past the detent, it will NOT cancel it. But, if you simply press the turn signal to the detent, it WILL cancel the turn signal. In some models, you need to press the detent in the same direction as the turn signal that you want to cancel, but in newer models, pushing the turn signal to the first detent in either direction will cancel the signal.

@@manenwanthey probably do that to make leasing more appealing, since most of the time leasing deal is a win-win situation, they get more money through interest, consumers get better deal and don't have to cut away a big chunk of their money in a short period of time.
Vinfast is mainly focussing on the Vietnamese and Asian car market, which is growing fast! And they do pretty well there, specially cause no import tax, and oh boy, Vietnam got high import tax on such luxury items like cars! Another thing, many Grab Drivers for example (similar to Uber) buy them! So, I think in the US and European market Vinfast will have pretty tough times selling their cars but they will do fine in SEA markets!

Except KIA 20 years ago and Hyundai 30 years ago started with shiboxes, not the mid-size luxury cars. If new company wants to enter USA market, they need to build an econobox better than Chevy Spark and Mitsubishi Mirage or midsize SUV better than Dodge Journey. Its not that hard
I see effort from them to improve. Gotta count for at least something. Now, its still more expensive, and objectively a step or multiple down from a Tesla… but theres effort. Someone will find that worth supporting.
You do realize that they are only on the streets of Vietnam be because they are all bought and used by the Vietnamese government. This is common knowledge.

Congrats, I hope your second iteration of VF8 is as happy as the first.

Pininfarina also designed those freestyle pop dispensers you see at fast food places.
His point is that its not bad, it just doesn’t have character. It’s objectively nice to look at, however its also just forgettable. If this competed on price it would probably be great value, but it isn’t.
I've seen pictures and videos of the Hyundai Matrix. I don't think it's anonymous, it's ugly.

They are owned by China so I'm pretty sure they will eventually steal technology from other EV companies soon and make some improvements.

YESSSS!

I had that style of turn signal stalk in my older X3. It does not take long to get used to using it. However, as stated, there is no real reason for them to operate that way. It does not solve any problem, or make things better. And when someone else drives the car, you have to explain to them how to use the turn signals. Something one should never have to do.
Doug has complained about them numerous times but I don't think he's ever explained how to actually use them correctly to UA-cam. Don't be like Doug.
Care to explain how to use them?
@@MikeKayK it works similar to a digital camera shutter. There is a noticeable “half click” on the stalk that cancels the turn signal. Also the “half click” does a 3 blink flash so tbh I find myself just flicking the turn signal with the half click for a quick 3 blink when changing lanes. The turn signals cancel natural when making a full turn . So cancelling with the half click is a non issue 99% of the time. It is a needless change tho.
The more outrageous thing here is the nightmare fuel hood latch.

@@kdt9154 People are stupid.
Did you have to pay a large payment up front or just monthly?
Be careful, these things are death traps. Not built strongly enough. Wheels snapping off, suspension parts cracking and all sorts.
Trash car
Likely the import duties that increases the price. Would've been a great value buy if allowed to be prices according to production in Vietnam
Nah even without import duties it’s quite expensive. If it were 10k cheaper I bet it would sell really well.
Was driving along today and saw one at a light wondering what the hell it was. Perfect timing on posting this today haha

VF8 does offer way better value proposition than a Model Y.
*HUD
*Panoramic Moonroof that opens and closes. Plus, it offers electric sunshade cover
* Great power with decent range
* interior/exterior are way nicer than the boring minimalist Model Y.
* Priced reasonably competitive
* AWESOME warranty coverage
@@MikeKayK
Less power and range? VF8 is a dual motor. 264 miles of range and 330+ HP is pretty awesome. I believe it was Road and Track that said the range is HIGHER than advertised when they conducted their road tests.
IIt looks very similar to Audi Q5/Q7 from the exterior., imo. The interior is quite nice (way better than crappy Model Y with absolutely nothing inside. Not even a grab handle for the front passenger to grab on.). If you think the VF8 looks worse, what vehicle do you own?
A great warranty got Hyundai where they are today.
@@marketbuy Exterior reminds me more of something like an Acura RDX, from the side at least. Interior bits all look cheap, looks like it could be a GM product inside (and outside for that matter). Hyundai had a 100k mile warranty forever, didn't change the fact that they still had a reputation for being unreliable.

I went to Vinfast showroom today. I sat inside and liked everything about it. It’s priced competitively(lease promotion). I will wait till quarter end in June to see if they have additional markdowns. I like to give them the benefits of the doubt. Since it’s a lease vehicle, im not too worry about quality. I have a backup vehicle.

I assume you've cross shopped and driven other EVs on the market and find the lease on the Vinfast to be the best bang for the buck? How much up front (down payment, fees, taxes) and monthly?
Kudos to them for listening to feedback and making changes. The reason Hyundai and Kia survived in the beginning was the value proposition. I don’t see that with Vinfast though

Buy a vinfast car, 53K, is better choice than tesla Y, 47 K.
VinFast has had a harder time selling cars outside of Vietnam.
Out of the 3,118 EVs the company shipped to the U.S. last year, only 265 VinFast vehicle registrations - a common proxy for estimating car sales - were recorded across the U.S. in 2023, according to an S&P report.

Needs to come in at $30,000 to sell, especially until they are eligible for the $7500 when it is produced in the US.
When Japan and Korea entered foreign markets, they started cheap to attract the masses to become rich. Vietnam however started expensive in an affordable demanding market, don't see how anyone would rather have the VF8 than an ID4/EV6
@@jc_so_riyl
Especially with an upstart vehicle brand that might be out of business within 18 months. There's no guarantee of a vehicle life cycle for prolonged ownership.
It's impossible because there's no part directly manufactured in Vietnam, everything is imported as parts and assembled only
47-53k prices themselves out of the market. Tesla is strictly better. Cheaper, faster, more range, and more experience stateside.
They basically just discounted mine $7500 since it's not eligible for the rebate. Plus side, I can still use the EV rebate now.
Tesla is da best 😀😀😀
Test drove a VF8 and drove alright. Didn't get motion sick like Donut Media and everything seemed screwed together. Throttle mapping not as linear as I wanted, BMW blinker stalk is annoying. Backup camera quality was decent but would sometimes lag a bit. Might be worth checking out in 5-10 years if they're still around. Still better than a Fisker.

Hyundai started selling the Excel 38 years ago for under $5k when the average car sales price was over $9k. I bought a new Elantra in 2006 for $15,500 when the average car sales price was $23,600. If Vinfast was undercutting the competition by 35-50%, then you might have a point.
He forgot that Tesla needs an additional ~$8.000 to have the ADAS/Full Self-Driving system, the VF is already there.

Hi Doug, Thank you for your review about this model. It’s a great help to decide which EV should I buy. 👍
6:11 when he pulls the door handle, the key hole part wiggles.
The pricing isn't really a fair comparison because they're currently imported, so factor in the tariffs. Once their North Carolina factory is up and running, we'll see lower prices.
So the Vinfast offer less range and performance than a Tesla Y and charges more. What were the Vinfast executives thinking bringing it to the US?
Quite an oddity... Even if you don't want to get a Tesla due to them being literally everywhere in some areas, this doesn't offer a whole lot, and you are buying from a new brand that doesn't have an established reputation in the US. Seems like a hard sell to me...
Even the Ioniq 5/EV6 offers more with a much cheaper price tag than the VF8
@@jc_so_riyl ioniq 5 for me. I'd get the n line one that fakes a gas engine in a certain mode and even fakes gear shifts for having fun!
Why would anyone buy this crap
I have an ID.4. I love it. I would get one of these at their current lease special of zero down and $250 per month.
Actually, you just need to say "Hey Vinfast, open the moon roof". Easier way
You can say "hey Vinfast" to do everythings hihi.
@@gocnhinvutru I was talking about the calibration button, not the actual sun roof button.

I laughed at the "quick controls" menu. You know what's quick control? Stalks and buttons with individual functions. I know, revolutionary idea.

Even China struggles to sell cars outside Asia let alone Vietnam. Korea and Japan are on top league for sale with France, Germany, UK etc

15:00 I think that’s meant to be an attempt at a needle sweep 😂

Had the same thought. It's a nice car from the looks of it. But I'm not sure how they want to compete.
The lease deal is crazy cheap tho, idk why they didn’t price it lower considering how low the lease price is
@@manenwanthey probably do that to make leasing more appealing, since most of the time leasing deal is a win-win situation, they get more money through interest, consumers get better deal and don't have to cut away a big chunk of their money in a short period of time.
I think they don't lower their prices because their accessories are all quality branded items, even the design of the car is hired from Italy.
