Many cars do it, but it might give some insurance benefits to have. Might. The annoying part is that the vehicle will likely keep a warning light on if you turn off 'safety' features.
If anyone wonders what a better implementation is, my nissan's wheel vibrates when i go over a line without blinkers. You know you're wrong, and you're still in control without needing to be yelled at either. That's it

One of the things I like about a traditional turn-key-to-start is that if it's late at night or I'm actually in a dangerous situation, turning on the car and flooring it only take a couple seconds. Idgaf about a seatbelt if I've got some person with a knife after me.

I don't know if buckling the seatbelts is actually required for the car to move. But Tesla also has a "no ignition" start sequence. You get in and just put it in gear and drive. There is a brief "power on" delay but that isn't any longer than starting a regular gasoline engine car and driving away.
Chevy now has a feature you can enable; "buckle seat belt to drive", which I find incredibly irritating (I work in car rental) so I typically turn it off.

    • @club6525
      @club6525 5 місяців тому +2

Quite the opposite imo. Starting with a key requires a couple of steps (turning the key, waiting for ignition, pushing the brake, shifting into drive) and critical seconds. The startup sequence in the VF8 is simply seatbelt on, push the brake, and drive. Much quicker and much safer.

I think you did a fair take on this car. I am also glad that most auto manufacturer's do not put cars this far from satisfactory on the market.

I don't really play video games anymore, but I'm still immersed in the industry's news. Their analogy is scary to think about with No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk. The "release product now and fix later" mindset is one thing when it's about a harmless video game. It's another when you are talking about a very expensive purchase that can risk your life. It's a mindset I can easily see Germany and America's top companies doing. They know they have a sizeable demographic who will buy their products regardless of their safety.
Let's just hope that regulations are set in place so we don't have everyone driving down the road, not being able to change lanes without blinkers, and stalling in the middle of the highway.

There's a reason why when companies like Honda, Toyota, Datsun/Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia (back when the last two were not the same company) started here, they started with budget-minded vehicles. People will complain about budget-minded vehicles, but if they're of limited means, they'll probably still buy them as that's potentially all that they can afford.
When entry-level luxury automakers come in to a new market, they're relying on the reputation of the brand in their other markets to offer a reason for entry-level luxury car buyers to consider them. That sort of reputation can take many, many years to build, and if the luxury car market is already reasonably crowded, can be a challenge even for a proven brand.
Tesla, for all their faults, realized that it was going to be tough and chose to use another manufacturer's car body for their first product, focusing on the powerplant and energy source. The car they used as a base was already decent enough as a rolling chassis goes, and being marketed solely as a sports car it would make itself more easily excused for any flaws that it did have. That allowed the company to develop itself before it started offering family-suited cars of its own design.

8:45 My only issue is a personal one I’ve been wanting to test at some point but maybe y’all can consider us to quantitatively prove this. My theory having read car reviews since the late 90s pre digital publications is reviewers HAVE to review something combined with elevated expectations that may not be in line with a proper benchmark when the price is moderately high. So if we’re talking spring tension, ESPECIALLY on the 405 during construction, is this actually true to a quantitative level meeting a statistical significance? I honestly am not so sure. Bc if so , how much so? Otherwise, it’s a pretty damning thing a company would have to overcome if every car experiences a similar ride experience on damaged road. Humans are incredibly susceptible to confirmation bias and suggestion. One of the only things I still use from my overpriced graduate school is my degree in consumer behavior. And this is one area that the review process might want to consider more.
Also I’m sure something on your radar already is longitudinal reviews. I haven’t gotten past the original time stamp yet but I’m sure you’ll be fair and get a statement from the company And it’ll likely address updates of some kind which is the right answer. But is it true? I’m honestly not as concerned with issues on my vehicle as much as I would be if a company was hyper aware and intentional about correcting those mistakes. I’d value that very high and would factor into my purchase decision is a meaningful way. Just food for thought. Massive fan of this type of content y’all are crushing it

Here in Vietnam, seeders praise this car with words like "Top-notch" or "Peak product". And what pisses me of the most is the fact that there are so many of these MFs around, doing the work for free. They even attach loving Vinfast to patriotism: If you don't love Vinfast Unconditionally, you're a fucking treason! I get it a new product/brand will need to learn a lot to improve. But the key to that lies the user/supporter community, which Vinfast doesn't have. So when Vietnamese recognize the harsh truth that making a car does not get them to the top of the world, and there are a lot more to be done, Vinfast may have a chance. Until then, it's just a waste of everyone's time and money.

Most importantly, hundreds of units of VinBus-electric public buses have been providing service between the cities, every day from morning to night - from 5:00 to 21:00, 7 days a week transporting about 300,000 passengers daily in Vietnam since December 2022, and so far, not a single unit of VinBus catching fire or exploding or losing control resulting in any death, has been reported! In addition, thousands of units of Vinfast e34 as electric public Taxi cabs have been on the road in Vietnam since 4/2023, and there has been no problem so far. Similarly, thousands of units of VinFast e34 (a smaller version of VF8) and VF8 have been delivered to customers since 10/15/2021, and 9/2022, respectively. All the Vinfast EVs are currently on the road safely without any accidents of catching fire, exploding or losing control in Vietnam since then. That is one of the most patently absurd things I have heard in a while. From my extensive experience with embedded sensing design, I am almost certain that what happened is this: They (correctly) assumed that the sensor could suffer two distinct failure modes (open circuit and short circuit). short circuit would indicate full power and open would indicate 0 power. Additionally, the sensor might have a single faulty reading due to electrical noise in the vehicles power distribution, probably owing to undersized power distribution cabling, and not enough capacitance (both are common faults of cost cutting efforts). So to avoid this problem, they put a software lag to prevent spurious readings from causing unwanted acceleration.
This "solution" shows a fundamental misunderstanding of safety best practices, and was clearly implemented by some individual or group with zero practical safety critical sensor experience. Every other drive by wire sensor system is designed so that electrically they only use a smaller range of the sensors output (typically 20% to 80%). This approach allows the computer to detect every electrical fault because electrical faults will always register outside of the 20-80 percent range. Someone stomping on the accelerator will only result in a reading of 80%, however, and the computer can distinguish between such an input and a fault condition. In short, this engineering failure is extremely worrying and is an indicator of inexperienced / unqualified engineers designing and implementing safety critical systems. This is a huge red flag. DO NOT DRIVE this vehicle; it is very likely to have other dangerous safety critical faults.

Dumb comment. Ever seen those videos of car crash compilations? 80% of all of those accidents, hell 80% of all traffic fatalities/injuries/crashes would NOT happen if the majority of cars on the road were equipped with good driver's aids.

@@cenciende9401 Dumb comment. 80% of them wouldn't have happened if people were better drivers or took defensive driving courses. You can't rely on the car to save itself and you. My car is a driver's car, you wouldn't understand clearly.

@@FaeraOthronus I see what you're saying but when there are 80 plus year old drivers still driving who have terrible motor skills I'm glad technologies like automatic emergency braking exists. Unfortunately not everyone in the world is going to be a competent driver and these kinds of newer safety aids can really help prevent somebody who can actually drive from getting hit by somebody who can't.

@@FaeraOthronus Absolutely nailed it. I love my 1990 Volvo 240 Wagon for the very reason it lacks all of the modern tech everyone has gotten to used. I want a car like that so I can not get distracted or annoyed by it being akin to a overbearing, paranoid parent being a backseat driver and critic, and so I can ensure I'm always keeping 100% attention to everything all the time while driving. Its akin to airliners now days - everyone is trained and so used to using the autopilot features, that most modern crashes are caused by a lack of experience and confidence in knowing their planes when they need to take over from it. Or people being utterly clueless navigational because all they know is GPS.

I went to the auto show in LA and on the way in was approach by a woman asking if I'd like to tro sign up to preview a vinfast. I didn't even know she was talking about cars. With a name like that, I honestly thought it was some kind car title or buying service. Wasn't until I saw their booth inside that I realized she had been asking if I wanted to take a riding tour in a car...

hi, a vietnamese here. This is the first time i have ever heard of insight about this car although im local to this model (since vinfast control the media quite aggressively). So, i have several surprises after watching this
-The car is actually cheaper than in Vietnam (same msrp, but Vietnam has like 15k worth of voucher to make it up). To put into perspective, old model crv cost 50k and performance car cost x3
-its actually less bugs than i expected. i have read on forum about a man got his battery died twice, one time on highway at night, without any road lights, with tons of issues like couldnt turn the signal on. But yeah, mostly battery issue.
About softwere, my mom who has some of her friends work at vinfast said they are trying to not rely on existing patent to cut down cost (by making their own technology). And apparently, they can fix bugs that fast bcs there are tons of vf8 running as taxi (and also users' complaints)
About that sensitive sensor, I think its because of the traffic in Vietnam. Basically its like a junior version of India, a bit safer but fkin insane
In the end, dont buy this car. It is indeed unfinished product and even with vietnamese like me, its not very wise to buy this. Unless, you are given the voucher, living in Vin facility and wants to buy an electric car in Vietnam

The chimes are pretty easy to explained. The traffic here in Vietnam is… not good, so the manufacture decided to put a bunch of sensitive sensors to make the driver stay on guard. Vietnamese people on roads usually are pretty wreck less. On the roads is like filling the blank space or take chances to go through every possible gaps. Feel kinda bad for American people to use the same software as us.

It's hard to give them a chance after they basically bullied reviewers and journalist into giving them positive reviews before the car shipped to the US. Did you read about their borderline mafia tactics during their initial showing in Vietnam, too? Following journalist around, not letting them do anything the company didn't allow, nor were they allowed to actually drive the car they went there to review. Don't get me started on all the shills they pay to troll comment sections on automotive websites and start arguments with people who dislike the car. They deserve to fail.

If they cared at all they wouldn't have rushed the release of this thing. Not only does that show a lack of the respect to the customers, but it's also potentially dangerous! Frankly, I hope they fail. If we start tolerating this kind of reckless nonsense with cars (things that we literally trust with our lives) then other car companies will follow suit. Soon, we'll have day one patches for buggy EVs like they're a bloody video game! If they had just made a safe, reliable, good car instead of trying to make a quick buck, they'd probably be doing fine!
