Thats a bow i would be proud to own my friend..all ive ever had was façtory made stuff..that one there would be on my top shelf and highly guarded...thanks for the video..subscribed..and kook forward to more!!
My gosh, what an ambitious build. If it were the usual crap build it would be one thing but this is a beautiful one of a kind riser, a keep sake and collector peice for your kids and grandkids. Very very impressive. Thank you for the hours of spectacular work. //ji
Fantastic video definitely one of the best bow building video's on UA-cam I'll be watching again as I've been slowly working on a all phenolic ILF riser in spare time
Thanks. It takes me a while to get things done too because I only get to work on things in small chunks as I find time. I’m sure your riser will turn out great.
I wrap everything in plastic to help contain the squeeze out. You don’t need to use plastic but smooth on gets everywhere and it’s hard to get off when it dries.
What do you call the chamber that you put the riser into after you glued and saran wrapped it?.... It had a regulator. What was the purpose? Did the glue cure faster? What are you controlling?
Do you have a list of necessary tools anywhere? I notice the spindle and bench sander, band saw, drill press. Am I missing any? You are inspiring me to start trying this.
Most of those tools are just nice to have but not necessary. You can get away with a bandsaw and any sander. A router and some files would also help but don’t let the tools hold you back. Good luck with yours
Excellent video, especially the meticulous and dedicated work, very handmade but with first-rate features, congratulations. On the other hand, you make bows to order and if so, do you ship outside your country, regards
I have a few questions about building a riser like this: Is there any structural benefit to using multiple woods like you did or is a solid chunk fine? Where can I get the hardware for the ilf fittings? How did you make your pattern? Do you think this would be possible with just hand tools and a cordless drill and sander? Thank you sir, this is an amazing video!
The only structural benefit to multiple wood species is you can use a harder species to stiffen up weaker woods but it is mostly for looks. A solid piece of dense wood will work fine. You can get the hardware from 3rivers archery or Lancaster’s. I’m sure other places carry them as well. I make my templates from other bows I’ve made and slowly tween them over time. For this one as long as the limb angles and length is correct you can change things as you go to make it better. You can also get away with way less tools than I use but it will take more time and patience to get everything right. Hope this helps. Good luck on yours.
@@Makingitwild Thank you, I've been thinking about a project like this for a little while now but I always thought it was super complicated, you have definitely proved that wrong! I'm moving currently and I will have some shop space in my garage to take on projects like this! Thank you again.
My favorite is Cambell Krystal because it’s really easy to work with but even spray polyurethane works pretty well. There are a couple good finishes like thunderbird epoxy and they work well but take a long time to cure.
How did you make up the template to cut the rough shape? It seems really adjustable which is great but I'm worried about getting the angle of the grip all wrong
For the limbs I used a 17degree angle for that one if I remember correctly. For the grip I leave myself extra and keep carving and sanding until it feels right in the hand. It’s hard to show without making the video really long but there is a lot of shooting it and making adjustments over and over. If you’re worried about wasting material you can practice and get the angle right on a scrap 2x4 then when you start on your bow you’ll know what to expect. I do that every time I try something new. Good luck on yours.
Mano uma pergunta Como é o nome dessa resina q vc usou na colagem desse riser? E onde ende encontro? Pra comprar? Pogentileza vc pode m informar o nome e onde encontro fico agradecido se puder m ajudar
You did an incredible job, I honestly wanna buy one off you. Only difference I'd have is being cut past center so I can use a whisker biscuit. I like to incorporate elements of compound archery with my recurve like using vanes instead of arrows and the whiskey biscuit helps keep it nice and straight, but most importantly is that every bow riser I've ever bought was always warped and the limbs could never line up straight so that's why I'd like to hire someone with carpentry skills to make one for me.
Thanks. I’m not set up to sell bows but there are some bowyers making custom ilf risers that do a really good job. The bow in the video is cut 3/16” past center but if you use g10 or something else you can get away with going more. Stalker stick bows have a really good system for hiding I-beams and their bows look and shoot great. I’m sure you could get them to put a Berger button in so you could put a rest on it. There are some other companies as well that do a great job. Good luck
I wasn’t really thrilled with it at first but after getting it tuned and putting a couple hundred arrows through it I started liking it. I have some ideas to make it better so hopefully I’ll get around to making a better one soon. The fishing line is 25lb test but anything you have in that range will work. Trent wengerd didn’t come up with it but he’s the one making it popular. You should see how he does it.
@@Makingitwild Yes, I agree. I bought my first takedown bow a few weeks back after shooting one piece for 40 years. I am thinking about building a riser but, probably not ILF. I want to minimize riser length to build a short bow. Under 48. We shall see how it goes. I will probably break my limbs.
Great work! Loved getting to peek over your shoulder as you progressed through the build. Where do you source your limbs? Do you fab your own, or exclusively use oem limbs like the Hoyt 55 lb'ers that you mentioned at the end of the video? Be well.
Thanks. I usually make my own limbs but haven’t made any ilf limbs yet. I like the concept of switching brands and designs but I hope use my limb design with ilf mounting systems.
@@Makingitwild Thanks for the reply. Have you already, or will you at some point be releasing any limb building tutorials? That would be an amazing accompanying video, or series of videos to complement the riser build content. Looking forward to seeing more. Be well.
Thanks. I think the lighter wood is a variety of mahogany but it was on the off cut shelf and I’m not exactly sure. I thought it was something else when I got it. The darker wood is wenge. They aren’t the perfect woods for this but are plenty hard enough to hold up.
That's is fantastic. Appreciate you taking the time to share it with us.
Thank you
Thanks for sharing! Very cool to see the whole process, I think it looks great!

When the piece is clamped down, laminated, glued together, it is also wrapped in plastic. Why is that? Great upload, thx!

Very nice video. Congrats!
Wow ….🫡 to ur skills
Bravo !
Great looking riser, where did you get the drill jig and hardware for the build?
The jig is just a dowel jig. It’s not great but it works. Most of the hardware came from 3 rivers archery but some of it came from the hardware store.
NICE!!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Você é um artista, meu caro! Nota 10
Awesome work on the riser!! Could you provide some information on the limb mounting hardware you used? Thanks!
I got the hardware from 3rivers archery. You can find them at Lancaster’s and a few other suppliers. Good luck on yours.
Beautiful bow but most people do not have access to these tools
Everyone is limited to the tools they have. I don’t have the best tools but you have to just slowly collect and upgrade when you can.
