I've always wanted a movie bridging the Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet in one generational adventure. Nothing like that has been done onscreen, and it would be very cool if done respectfully.

I am not sure that could be done today. The two characters are now owned by different groups. Classic Media, LLC, doing business as DreamWorks Classics, now owns the right to the Lone Ranger. The Wrather corporation bought the rights in 1954. Green Hornet, Inc. owns The Green Hornet and leases the character out. This is why the TV show in the 60s never mentioned their relationship. The companies on occasions sue one another whenever there is mention of the familiar relationship between the two. Before 1954, the original TV series would mention the relationship to the Hornet's relative in a couple of episodes.

    The serials are really solid.
Never was able to track down many radio episodes.

Great character, definitely. Unfortunately one of my first introductions was watching that seth rogen movie with my dad, and yeah dad wasn't all that pleased with it to say the least (He grew up on the 60s show). We found the video of this serial and bought it to get a better image of the Green Hornet in our minds, and later finding episodes of the 60s show on cable a few years back was really great.
Learning about the history of Detroit was really cool, not to mention the inspirations behind the Green Hornet that I actually never knew before watching this video. That's the great thing about comics, when they have a connection to real world history, you not only get a fun adventure but you learn a few things at the same time.
I definitely think Green Hornet is still relevant, not as a farce like the 2012 movie did but done seriously. I once imagined the likes of Billy Zane and Jet Li playing Green Hornet and Kato, , but that might not be a good idea for all I know!!!

I've always thought the Green Hornet was one of those characters who never reached his true potential. Sort of like Lee Falk's Phantom. They are both very interesting and endearing as heroes from by-gone era but neither of them was ever given the sort of treatment that could catapult them to evergreen status like Superman and Batman. I hope they can both be re-imagined and brought back to popularity at some point.

Different mediums ... comic books are an assembly-line and thus Superman and Batman never go away. Were the intellectual rights to the Green Hornet sold to a PUBLISHER, you'd see him more. The rights are owned by George W. Trendle's heirs, who are independently wealthy, and want so much money, few people are willing to risk it on the Hornet. The Green Hornet was better known than Batman throughout the 1940s ...

Adam West's Batman was really big back then so they showed some episodes of the Green Hornet as well, probably hoping it'd take off like Batman had. Sadly it didn't, but I loved the show anyway. Then it disappeared, no more Green Hornet in the UK.

I would argue characters like the Green Hornet are universal, especially when kids get over preconceptions about older stories.
I grew up in the 80s and early 90s loving Zorro, the Lone Ranger (we didn't get the Green Hornet shown much in the UK), Charlie Chan and a whole bunch of other "repeats" from the 1930s - 1970s, and I remember loving those as much if not more so than the contemporary programming. By 16 I was hooked on Peter Lorre's Mr Moto series.
I sat my kids down with It's A Wonderful Life at Christmas, they thought it was one of the best things they'd ever seen. They also like the original A-Team better than the more recent movie, prefer OG Transformers, and they're begging me to watch the Godfather and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, which were all made before I was born.
Good stories are good, it's getting them into the market that's the problem, and adapting them for a "modern audience" poisons the well for the original.

My introduction to the Green-clad vigilante was (like with many others) the Van Williams and Bruce Lee series from the 60's. It's a very important part of my childhood as it helped influence me as a person overall.
It's probably why I like Batman: The Animated Series so much. It's in the same vein as The Shadow and The Green Hornet in terms of style.

When I was younger, I watched it for Bruce Lee. Because I thought Kato was cooler than Green Hornet.
But as I grew up my respect for the Hornet grew as well. I feel we need more of his type in fiction nowadays, a more methodical and mysterious kind of hero.
We just need to put him in the right context. Hence my writing him to fit the modern age is quite challenging. I don't want to go too much into politics and I want to be respectful of the character's legacy.

Oh yeah Buckley was a pinko lefty and so he got killed for being all about exposing the mob in a town that well...has a very close relationship with the Illinois mob.
In short he was a victim of his surroundings but moving on, Hey! How about that green hornet huh! Truly underrated! And far better at times than some copies like the DC sandman with the gas mask and that weird Rorschach and his often over looked yet superior Question counterpart. In my opinion it was Hornet and the Shadow! And their both great characters that crossed over a while back in a dynamite comic if I recall, too bad these characters if picked up would simply be hated for being rip offs or badly written by a public that simply put doesn't get them.

I love the Green Hornet! I grew up with a dad who watched the 60s show and I became a fan. His gimmick of fighting crime by masquerading as a criminal is awesome and so unique. He's one of my favorite non super heroes, second only to Zorro and I love alot of the books Dynamite Entertainment has done. Green Hornet: Year 1, MASKS, Shadow/Green Hornet: Dark Nights and there was even a sequel to the old crossover with Batman titled Batman 66 meets the Green Hornet and loved it! I love this character and I think Kato is honestly my favorite sidekick character too. They're both such an awesome pair to this day and it is a shame how bery niche they are compared to Batman and Spider-Man.

I first came to know of The Green Hornet through my Dad who listened to the radio serials as a child and watched the 60s show in adulthood. I came to watch the TV series not too long ago and took a liking to the character. I was hoping for the best when the Seth Rogan abomination came along but as we all know.... it sucked hard!!
I think there is potential for The Green Hornet to find a place in today's world. There are plenty of criminal gangs out there involved with drug trafficking, human trafficking, mega corporations that threaten smaller independent competitors, local rackets and dishonest politicians (who may have a hand in any of them). After all, he's supposed to be a criminal that takes over (and eventually dismantles) these operations and I'd like to think that Britt Reid would be on the boards of organizations that would help the victims of these criminals like battered women shelters, drug rehab centers, etc.

60's kid here 🙂. The producers of 66 Batman tried to bring the GH into then modern times, but the show only lasted 1 season, which was a great shame. The style was quite true to the old radio shows of the 30's and 40's, but it seems like by the 60's he no longer connected with a wide audience. Adults had "outgrown" him and kids weren't wowed by the real-world-style villains he faced. The show lacked the tongue-in-cheek campiness of Batman, and the crossover and cameos they did only made it clear that the universes didn't mesh very well.
I was a die-hard Batman fan at the time. Personally I only got into The Green Hornet through re-runs, long after the show had been cancelled. Being older then, I was better able to appreciate it, and it got me interested in discovering the old radio shows and film serials for myself.
Kato was always cool though! I wish he'd had more dialogue!

I think a contemporary Green Hornet movie would best work in one of two ways.
    1) Keep it in the Thirties/Forties setting (or the Sixties at the latest). I don't think anyone would mind a good period piece. Heck, in that case you could just adapt Dynamite's GREEN HORNET: YEAR ONE comic.
    2) Set it in a retro/dieselpunk version of the modern day, sort of like the Time Burton BATMAN film. That way you can mix the old-fashioned and the modern in a natural way.

Worth noting that he got into acting in the first place through doing artwork for various studios, including a mural you can see in the casino in Shanghai Gesture, the plot of which has got to be one of the most unsettling tragedies of its era - and which you can see here on UA-cam.

As a kid, my only exposure to the Green Hornet was the crossover of the 1960's series with the Batman TV show. I was very excited when FX started airing episodes of the 60's series. To the best of my knowledge that was the first time the show had been broadcast since the 60's. I enjoyed it quite a bit and wish the show had lasted longer. Kato was Bruce Frickin Lee!!! I was not a huge fan of the Seth Rogan film, but I was excited to see the character revived. I really wish they would try a more serious revival. I promise to watch. Speaking of 1930's characters little known today, I'd like to see a new Doc Savage movie. I heard the Rock might be interested. He would be fantastic. Maybe after he finishes Black Adam, and Doc Savage, he can be the Green Hornet too...

As for the question of if the Green Hornet could still work in a modern setting I think so, but it would have to involve some changes, Keto being a 'valet' definitely wouldn't work in today's world for example, but still I think it could work. Unfortunately the Seth Rogan film version probably killed that dream for a long sadly :=(

Anyone who's a fan of Dynamite comics knows how wildly they fluctuate in terms of quality, but pretty much everything they put out that's Green Hornet-related is excellent.
There's plenty of comic book characters that almost no writer knows what to do with. Green Hornet is the opposite of that. Everyone who's touched the character on Dynamite's watch, from Mark Waid to Amy Chu, has turned in some of the best work of their careers. Waid's GH run was probably the last good thing he's ever written.

@@FizzFop1 Year One by Matt Wagner is outstanding, just like everything else he's done for Dynamite. There was also a excellent Kato spin-off by Jai Nitz that goes into some dark shit, especially in the second book. I'd tentatively recommend the modern day take by Kevin Smith, but that would depend on your tolerance for Kevin Smith. Jonathan Lau's artwork is a major plus, though.

The fact that the Green Hornet is the "product of a bygone era" does not affect his future viability. What is Superman, for example, but such a "relic"? Now Comics rebuilt the legend of the Green Hornet in such a way that the character should have skyrocketed in popularity. I believe that, should some concern reunite the intellectual property rights for the Hornet and his "ancestor", the Lone Ranger, so that the characters could officially share their common lineage, that sharing could become the springboard for that boost in popularity. WT Keeton has the right idea; I simply believe that such a storyline could work regardless of the medium, so that anything -- comics, TV, etc. -- would be very viable.

@@FizzFop1 The buddy comedy formula is perfect for this franchise because the hero-sidekick dynamic is absurd and Kato's contributions are ridiculously underrated.
But Rogen and Goldberg rely heavily on improvisation, which is going to be impossible when you cast a lead actor who barely speaks English (Jay Chou, who did a fine job under the circumstances). Christoph Waltz couldn't even do improvisation and he's won two Oscars.
