  • In this episode of The DVD Shelf Movie Reviews, David defends Seth Rogen’s not-so-well-liked comedic turn as classic pulp crimefighter The Green Hornet! However, David also looks at Disney’s 2013 big-budget adaptation of the Green Hornet’s ancestor, iconic Western hero The Lone Ranger, starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp, and just can’t give it the same level of praise.

only if it was serious, without any humor, without frat boy-lowest common denominator bullshit and if it honored the radio show and 66 series as a dark interpretation.

It was not a stalemate. Green Hornet told Kato before the battle took place that they should not make Batman and Robin suffer. And they " ...measure their tricks with good judgement". That means Green Hornet and Kato would be "pulling their punches"!!!!

The 3d Blu-ray has an extra bonus feature: 3d storyboards. All it is is scenes playing out alongside slightly animated storyboards in 3d.

Jason Scott Lee would later play Bruce Lee in a biopic! The role was originally offered to Bruce's son, Brandon, but he turned it down and did The Crow, which was based on a comic book!

    • @RurouniStarchild
      @RurouniStarchild 8 років тому

yup, I remember! In one of his interviews, Brandon explained why he turned down Dragon is because he feels EXTREMELY uncomfortable in portraying his own father, which is understandable.

I actually don't think Seth Rogen is a bad actor, but I agree with the comments below saying that he was a poor fit for the Green Hornet in regards to what the movie was going for. The joke would've worked so much better if the guy playing the role looked more like the traditional Hollywood leading man, the kind of guy you could see getting all the credit for Kato's work.

Whoever picked Seth Rogan to be the Green Hornet should never be allowed to work on a movie again.

I do believe that either in the Radio show or the pilot of the TV show a reference is made to the Ranger including I was told that in Brits living room is a picture of the ranger on silver up above the fire place.

I think they can modernize this movie. Since he owns a paper company he can see that the online competitor be a villain.

Comparing Adam West's Batman to Seth Rogan's Green Hornet is a false equivalency. Both are comedies. That's it. That's all they have in common. Batman was campy, but both Batman and Robin were charismatic, smart and balanced. Seth's Hornet is a fat doufus. Rogan (who i do like) is a natural doufus, and losing a few pounds doesn't change that. I had no problem with the movie being a comedy. I had a problem with how they portrayed the character.

I personally am not a fan of Seth Rogen so I didn't enjoy The Green Hornet but I always enjoy your reviews anyway I think my favourite part was when you talked about The Lone Ranger I wasn't interested in watching that but I kind of got forced into a viewing because my mum and dad wanted to watch it but I only got through some of it because I am getting a bit sick of Johnny Depp and his performance was pretty much Native American black face

OK.... you make some good points....but I really hated Seth Rogan as the GH... totally miscast...just as Will Smith was miscast as Jim West in the Wild Wild West.... I did like Jay Chou as Kato.... but that's about it....the movie stunk in my opinion and I don't know if another remake is possible as Seth Rogan's version has really done damage to the franchise... I hope I'm wrong about that... but..."2 thumbs down"....way down on this one....

I'll stick with the 1966/67 Green Hornet series. Thanks anyway. There was another Lone Ranger movie, which I actually saw in a theater back in 1981. The Legend of the Lone Ranger. Not too good as I recall.

Sorry dude...while I love your reviews and how much effort you put into them, I just cannot agree with your opinion on this film or Seth Rogan. I think Seth Rogan is extremely overrated and I don't find him funny at all. I loved the 1960's Green Hornet as well as the comic books. I wish someone would make a Green Hornet movie on the same level as The Dark Knight...now THAT would do the series justice! To each his own I guess...keep up the great work!

Tbe film wasnt that bad or wasnt that good. I thought Kato and Christopher Waltz as the bad guy were the best parts. I do agree with most od your review. Seth did not bother me much as the Hornet. Then again I saw the TV series once and never read the comic. I appreciate how they tried to make the movie different. I am also getting sick of the same old comic book movies. If the marvel movies weren't so expertly made I wouldn't watch them. X-Men is my favorite partly cuz I loved the cartoon in the 90s as a kid, but I also Love Kick-Ass and Deadpool 2. I do think Nicolas Cage would have been Amazing or at least Entertaining as hell as the bad guy in The Green Hornet. You gotta respect a comic book movie that is not DC or Marvel that was NOT The Lone Ranger, The Phantom, or The Shadow which I hate

I liked the film, also. It was a good movie. Just not the type of Green Hornet movie people wanted to see. Had Rogen did with the Green Hornet what Keaton did with Batman , it would have been a hit. Remember, much like Rogen, Keaton was known only for his comedic work prior to taking over the role as the Caped Crusader. Instead, they wrote to Seth's go to persona instead of making him stretch (which, I think he could have totally pulled off). At any rate, it was a fun movie and well worth watching.

Wasn't a half bad movie. Was good for what it was. I think some of these comic book characters should get their time to shine. I mean, if they can make Ant-Man and a talking tree hits then they can make this a hit.

How about we make a new Lone Ranger, but make it like a Spaghetti western. Wouldn’t that be great? And then we can form a universe of that and a new Green Hornet (maybe even remake that as a 30s noir? Not unlike The Shadow?).

I've been a fan of The Green Hornet since I saw the Batman crossover episodes on the early 90s Family Channel reruns as a kid. But I'm not a fan of this movie. It's not because it didn't take the character seriously. As I just mentioned I'm a fan of the 60s Batman. I can go with comedic versions of my favorite characters. In fact, I defend the concept of Batman and Robin. The flaw was the execution. Fun campy superheroes can work. But the movie isn't good. It's not nearly funny enough, there's nothing original in it that's not been done to death already, and it just doesn't strike a good balance with the action and comedy. I'm not married to a serious Green Hornet but I do want a good movie and this just is not one.
