I’m so glad you guys made this video, I’ve got a 2016 435i that is currently in the shop getting a pure stage 1 transmission and an lsd. After this this car will beat every m car I own as far as fun and reliability goes. Thanks you guys!

These cars are unfortunately aging just like their e9x n54 powered counterparts imo. The difference between a good and bad example can be incredible. If you dont own a lift, this is not the car for you lol.

BMWs have the amazing ability to exceed their lack of reliability with their driving enjoyment by just enough to keep people in the driver's seat. Are out-of-warranty BMWs the most sensible decision someone can make? No. Are they fun enough that we keep making those decisions anyway, hoping that this time will be different? 100% yes.

Isn’t that the point? It’s aging to the point of a perfect spec race car. Needs a bit of work with amazing potential.

Hard to beat the hardware/$$$ here but I wonder what fixes they have for chassis feel. Steering sucks and the back end is very squishy, at least in non M-Sport cars.

I think the criticism of the chassis feel is a little overblown. Even on the off-the-used-car-lot 500+tw tires our 435 had surprisingly good feedback relative to the reputation these cars have. The steering is a little on the vague side, but there's good communication through the chassis. It's not razor sharp, but it's also a 3600lb car with fairly luxurious intentions. Now that we've added a proper seat, some negative camber and 200tw tires for track use, it's downright tossable and fairly responsive. It'll never be a Miata, but I really feel like it's better than its reputation.

Chassis feel on this car is great. Even in non m sport trim. I never understood the hate

@@GrassrootsmotorsportsAbsolutely. Been tracking my 340i for a few years now and even stock it was great. People don't realize how much they do to improve "feel" but doesn't make the car any faster.

    N55 or B58 for a track application?

I don't think it's really an either/or proposition. The B58 has much more power potential, but the N55 is classed far more advantageously for the SCCA Time Trials series we're concentrating on. BimmerWorld feels like the N55 is a good long-term pick for a reliable (once a few issues are solved) track car with low operating costs. The B58 is a fantastic motor and gaudy power numbers are just a tune away, but it's also harder on the chassis, demand more cooling, etc.
