Great video thanks for this. Just curious as you said it requires the s55 pan, I’d assume it won’t work for my n55 in the e82? As I don’t have electric steering rather the hydraulic steering? Seems to be a real struggle to find a good method for my car to sort oil starvation 😂
@Grassrootsmotorsports Do you guys know if it is possible to just use the S55 oil pan on N55 with a standard N55 pick up tube? Will it work? I know that S55 pan is deeper, and I'm concerned that the N55 oil pick up tube may be too short, which can cause oil starvation at times. Alternatively, is it possible to just use the @BimmerWorldMedia oil sensor with a spacer on a standard N55 oil pan, so that overfill does not trigger a CEL?
Yeah the pickup tube on the S55 tray is longer. So wile the pan would probably bolt up and physically work, there's a nonzero chance of making things worse as you'd lose depth on the pickup. And I think they do have a longer sensor/spacer kit for the N55 as well. Phil has data on pretty much all the sensors, so they might be able to put something together for you. Worth a call.
The oil pumps and associated hardware are around $1600 and the pan is around $1000. BimmerWorld has kits, but they recommend you call before ordering because they're easily customizable based on the other stuff you plan to do while you're in there. For example, we didn't replace the oil pump drive gear, opting instead to reuse our existing drive gear on the new oil pump. This allowed us to keep the tension on the oil pump drive chain while we were doing the job. Otherwise we'd have had to take the whole timing cover assembly apart to properly seat the chain once it lost tension.
I worked for a John Deere industrial dealer. I always had to scratch my head when brand new tractors came in with modifications from the factory. I guess development time before production is short. Just guessing.

The facial expression after he dropped the wrench, lol

@@Grassrootsmotorsports Gotcha. Thanks for the response.
Did I miss the price of the parts? I’m assuming 6-8 hours of labor
