A really well made kit car is fantastic for someone that really appeals to that likes the look of super/hyper cars for a fraction of the price. Then those people can drive it around a little more carefree without it living it's entire life in a environment controlled garage.
The 79 series is loved because it is so utilitarian. Those hand-cranked windows, manual transmission and live axles are the point. Also, the lack of electronic features adds utility: you can maintain it with actual tools on the trail or in your garage.
Agreed this 50 year old tech is good for the vehicle's intended applications. But I also think it should be priced as the utility vehicle it is rather than priced as a luxury vehicle.
@BearAndSTB yeah: I think their comments just prove that the whole “40/60/79/80/100/200 series” thing is definitely well-known to us LandCruiser fans (who know the differences between the FZJ80 and FZJ82 models) but not really tracked by genuine car enthusiasts - even Marty and Moog with the best off-road channel on UA-cam! 🤣
@@vytas5584 Good point. I’m part of the crowd that values utility but already own an FJ60 and FZJ82 (diesel swapped with manual trans) so haven’t had to consider the crazy prices on the 200 series. Plus, located here in the US, the utility oriented 200 series isn’t even an option.
Hah- i was looking into solutions to dampen my wooden desk and get the noise floor down a bit - I'm embarking on a VO career. That mat will do nicely. Bought! For series 2, how about a tinfoil hat cat mat? 🐈 😊

@8:45 nahh MCM, you lost power on the upgraded intake because the ecu and injectors can only tolerate +/- 10% of the expected air mass at the intake sensor. if you start changing it, the engine runs lean at high throttle....

I think with the intake performance thing. Like marty and Scotty said, you want as much cold air as possible. But there are engineers who know more than me, but from what I learnt in fluid mechanics is that pipe diameters, shapes have a huge impact on flow velocity. You also need to have a smooth flow laminar flow to avoid throwing turbulant air into your manifold. There is a huge amount of engineering behind it and hopefully one day I can completely understand it
I mean some replicas are great like caterhams, cobras and there's a couple of group b kit car replicas on the market that are pretty cool, built on a custom frame not using an existing chassis
When i bought my last car i noticed the stock intake was not only bigger but also closer to the shape/form of a quality CAI than my bogus teenage ebay special CAI i put on my civic when i was 16. Well maintained drop-in was all she got.

@BearAndSTB Most modern ECUs only need a short drive cycle to adjust for the increase in airflow and typically don't need a reflash like in the 80s or 90s. Depends on the manufacturer tho.
