    Thanks mate. Love your honesty about your mistakes. Also thought the same thing about the thread tape. Thanks for doing all the hard work for me first. I'll give it a go!

    This is great, the best part I like is he reviewed the performance days after and made correction which made the job perfect at the end. I have just bought this kit today and hopefully my dripping tap
    can be fixed finally

    Thanks for the great video! Just what I was looking for as the surfacing tool I bought could not fix the crack just like in your case.

    Two years since you made this video, it's just what I was looking for. Fixed my problem as past the limit to seat refacing. Cheers bloke

    Great work!! Honesty and reflection is much appreciated to help people avoid these same issues that you got into showing us the mistakes and how to fix those them as well. I’ve been trying to figure out how to fix my leak that occurs almost once a year for my moms shower, and it’s already been about a month that I tried fixing it by replacing the stems for the handles. At the time I figured it was the lack of threads to install the seat but I didn’t know how to install them until recently thought that I would have to crack open the wall to replace the piping and install threaded ends for the seats that are missing. She’s been struggling with this and now I know what to get!!
    Thanks a lot for a well concise instructional video!!

    G’day Sean. Thanks for this video - it gave me confidence to tackle this job. The HydroSeal kit worked perfectly. Anyone could install new seats this way. Even though I ran water through the tap with no washer in place, I had a problem the next day with dripping due to brass swarf on the washer seat. I pulled the tap apart again and cleared the swarf using cotton buds. There was also brass up in the spout aerator and down in the tap housing base. It was easy enough - I just reckon anyone who does this job should expect to have the drip return, and plan to dismantle the tap again for a clean-up. After that, it should be sealed for good. Thanks again.

      For hand-basin or outside tap seats, do the thread cutting with the water turned on gently - it's messy, but it will wash the brass chips out as you go. Dry and WD40 the steel tap when you've finished to prevent it rusting. DON'T do the 'wet thread cutting' for a tap base in a hollow wall! For these, run the water through once the thread is cut and the tap is re-assembled (minus the washer) but BEFORE you install the new seat. If it's a shower tap, remove the shower head so the brass splinters don't clog the holes, and catch the water in a bucket so the brass chips don't sit on the shower floor waiting to drill into your feet next shower....

    Just fixed my garden tap. The seat had a scar about 1mm deep and the tap dripped constantly. I tried a hand-held reseating tool but it wouldn’t take off enough of the brass to allow the new washer to seal. Got a reseating tool that you could put in a drill and it did the job in two hits. I’d also bought a reseating kit which has a tap to tap out the original seat in the middle and a new seat which you screw in. I thought this would fix the problem even with the scores seat but it didn’t, hence the purchase of the reseating tool that goes in the drill. Kind of renders the reseating kit redundant but I fitted it anyway and it’s now fixed. Also replaced fibre washer, O ring and lubricated assembly with lithium grease. Lovely now. 😊

    I'm watching videoss like crazy as I can't afford a plumber to come out and charge me $hundreds if I can avoid it. One good tip I saw was to clean out after reseating with a cotton bud. Probably would do a better job than a paper towel. Also one mentioned running the shower without the head to get rid of any stray fillings.

    I have experienced everything you experienced, however I did flush before reinstalling. Had a large groove in the original seat, so now, like you did, I have to remove it all and add thread tape. Hoping for a success 2nd tune round.
    Perfectly covered all the issues I had. Much appreciated

      @@countrylifeonthecoast4167 thread tape was a winner. Not a drop once the tap was turned off. Stainless steel seat will last for years.

    Tried on 2 tap seats, 1 of them 100% fixed like new, turning off is now effortless. 2nd tap made good improvement, but still not dripping free, tries apply thread tape between the seats and improved, although not as good as my othrr tap. Overall this is great.

      JZ...some people have had more success by removing the white plastic washer (from the new screw-in seat) and applying some plumbers tape to the threads. I've yet to try it, but it may be worth a shot?

    Thanks, any ideas why the flow rate for both hot* and cold should be reduced after doing exactly whats shown here, with the Hydroseal kit ...?
    I flushed as instructed and have already tried cleaning the shower head ...?
    *only replaced the hot water seat

    • @countrylifeonthecoast4167
      @countrylifeonthecoast4167  2 роки тому

      It will only go in so far. You just cut the thread until it goes tight and won't go any further.

    Now that it has been a few months since you completed the job has the shower been leaking again? I have noticed that those soft turn washers that you put in at the end of the video seal very well but don't tend to last too long (they tend to slowly disintegrate over time if you turn them off too tightly).

    • @countrylifeonthecoast4167
      @countrylifeonthecoast4167  3 роки тому

      So far it is still working great. We make sure to turn it off as gently as possible.
      You are right though, I have used those washers before as well and after a period of time they can start to fail. Not sure how long the washer will last but so far so good!
