- This is my first time trying to solo the dreaded AT Nergigante using ONLY High Rank equipment, as it was originally intended in base Monster Hunter World. And let me tell you, this fight was INTENSE, and a heck of a lot of fun!

Because I get this question a lot - the armor I'm wearing on the thumbnail is the Drachen set, from the A Visitor From Eorzea FFXIV crossover event quest. It's the armor I'm using in this video, underneath the layered armor.

I love Double Cross/GU a lot. It's definitely archaic compared to World, but it's hella fun once you get past that steep, steep learning curve XD

You definitely don't have enough time to dodge the divebomb if your weapon is unsheathed and you don't have a very fast sheathe time. When I beat Nergi for the first time (ever, not AT), I was using bow and it was _miserable._ I ended up pre-sheathing when his spikes were near fully grown and waiting it out.
Nowadays I just only fight Nergigante with weapons that have a shield, or use SnS and its instant sheathe time.
For temporal- to avoid wasting dodges on weak attacks, it won't activate when you take chip damage. Nergigante seems to have a lot of attacks that just barely slip under the threshhold.
Yeah, that divebomb is devastating if it catches you off guard and you can't block. It can be easy to lose track of watching his spikes when you're in the heat of battle too, so it's tricky lol
Temporal not activating on weak attacks is a good point, and definitely a good thing. Wasting the dodges would be way worse!

I might be mistaken. But isn’t the “end game” high rank gear better than defender gear?
Not trying to say anything about your hunt, but you clarified that you weren’t using defender gear but I think the gear you’re wearing is actually better than defender?
I think he meant defender weapons. The final tier of defender weaponry is better than endgame HR weapons (I think.) Defender armor falls off basically once you reach middle area high rank though
Armor-wise, yeah it's definitely better. But like scaldingbutter said, the defender weapon is way stronger in pretty much every aspect - better Sharpness, higher attack and no negative affinity.
