Cool ! Neat little guitar, Chief. I dig it. I like what Firefly is doing these days, and this guitar looks like a big ole' barrel of fun! It looks nice. And it sounds good too. Nice little acoustic jamms too, Jimmy! Keep the good stuff coming, Brother.

As always, a great review, Jimmy. Your videos are always very comprehensive. I just took the plunge on the big brother to this guitar the GA01-E full sized Acoustic Guitar, and I'm excited. Of course, I had a great experience with my FFTL, and so naturally, I'd check out their acoustics. There are not many UA-cam videos on that one, but according to the guys and dolls on FB Firefly fans group, it's pretty much the same as the thinline but with a bigger body. So, thanks for covering this one so thoroughly.

Hey there Jimmy, Great review I love what Firefly has been doing lately. I bought one of these when they first dropped and I love it. Excellent guitar for the money. mine came with very high action(seems like they did not compensate for the piezo element under the saddle) but a pencil lines worth of material sanded off the bottom of the saddle a couple of times got her set up great.

Hi Chuck…thanks so much for watching and the kind comments. So glad to hear you enjoyed! Yes, FF did a great job on these acoustics. A lot of guitar for the price point for sure. I have their 3 piece back DA-01 acoustic from the 1st drop as well. Good to hear you were able to take your action down to your preference with a bit of saddle sanding. I am going to drop the string gauge 1st and see where I am at…may need a bit of sanding on mine as well, but pretty darn good right out of the box.

Hi Jimmy. I’m looking for a 1st decent acoustic. I love the look of the Firefly options right now. But I’m wondering if it’s better to double the money and try to find a used Martin or Taylor. I’m no name snob, so if the Firefly is as good as they look… I’d be happy with it. Would you recommend trying one or do high end options feel drastically more comfortable to play?

Hi Rob!! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I have a number of different acoustics in the arsenal ranging from Martins, Ovations, Epiphones, Godins and others including this Thinline Firefly. The build on these is very good…it will sit right up there with guitars twice the price. I think for your 1st acoustic you would be surprised! Yes, Martin & Taylor make a good guitar, but honestly the FF is more acoustic than the price point would lead you to believe. I would grab one while you have the chance. @JimmyStewart1  2 місяці тому

Thanks so much for stopping into the channel! Glad you enjoyed the video. I have both this Thinline, and the full bodied acoustic except my full body is “non electric” model. As far as playability, I do prefer the thin line mostly as the contours and body size make it more comfortable. The full body acoustic has a bigger sound for straight acoustic use, again due to body size. Having the built-in piezoelectric options make them much more versatile. Hope that helps, and they are now back in stock as well! 🎸👍

Yes, thank you! I was wondering if it might have the piezo as I couldn't come up with any other explanation, and couldn't see the sides well enough to tell if there were controls or a battery box. Appreciate the help. Now, any ideas when they will introduce new product? I have been in this such a short time that I narrowly missed both the FF and IYV thinline tele's and other things. One of the first things I did grab from the FFLPS page I have just found out is an aerosonic (?) with the decorated neck. I think the only reason I got it was that it had been returned, and the neck needed a truss rod adjustment and some fret leveling, But I like it a lot anyway. Hi Jimmy, I bought this guitar last Thanksgiving. Now, I have a Martin SC13-E. IMHO the Firefly plays, looks, and sounds better. The Martin was $1,600 and the Firefly, $149!!! But hey, it's not a "MARTIN". 😢 I've bought several $200 guitars in the last year, some based on your reviews. Thanks pal! 😊 If I've learned anything in my 75 years, it is this: God' children are talented everywhere, not just at the Martin, Fender, Gibson and Gretsch factories. Stay well, my friend. Oh, I almost forgot. The Firefly's tuner works and the fretwork is excellent! The Martin? Not so much. Shalom/gw. PS Some girls and boys buy expensive toys, shelling out all that legal tender. They think it's good luck, if they spend the big buck, for a Gibson, a Gretsch, or a Fender. And some guitar players try to put her down, they laugh and they defamer her, But in all my years I have known too few joys, like my sweet sixty nine dollar Kramer! PPS I love your playing and singing! 😊

Hi Floyd…Yes, I have played the Fender, along with the two IYV Acoustasonic’s that I own, and also my Godin A-6 which is also similar to the slimmer, acoustic/electric like the Acoustasonic. This is different…not as a slim body (though thinner than a standard bodied acoustic) it has a full style acoustic sound unlike an Acoustasonic would give you. Guess it depends on which style case you are looking for…hard shell form fitting case, or a type of more flexible style gigbag. Hi Kelly…thanks for dropping in. No phone number. All employees are located in China. Give them a little more time to respond. Remember, they are small company with just over a handful of employees. Language and time differences make it a bit more challenging as well. In the interim, try changing out the 9v battery to be sure it’s fully charged. You could also check the settings on the Presys II to be sure, along with the bridge. There could have been some shifting of the piezo under the bridge or slight lift/bend in its placement. Loosen the strings and remove the bridge saddle to check/adjust if needed. Hi Jimmy, Thanks for responding. Yep, that Firefly is something else! You have a gift, as do I. My dad recognized that and in 1963 he bought me a new Fender Jaguar. That was about a month's pay at the time. I did nothing but play that guitar and hang around with guys who played, every chance I got. My mother, who had originally complained to my dad about spending that much money "on and instrument he will never play", was begging me to stop after about a week. Bottom line is that I learned to play well enough to start a band and pay my way through school in one year. I paid my dad back and never took a penny afterwards. Enough with the background. My reason for writing is this: I started playing right after the Beatles became a thing. Trouble was the only " affordable guitars (from best to worst) were Sears, Montgomery Ward, Harmony, Tasco and Kent. The latter was like a 2x4 with frets. Yuch! A lot of my friends got guitars for Christmas that year. Their mothers would call me to "come for dinner" and try to show their sons how to play. I had to be honest. I told them that no one could learn to play on those guitars and that if their son had a gift to play, his guitar would put and end to the attempt. As you can imagine that truth was not well received. But today, budding guitarists are not held hostage to the high cost of a quality "name brand" guitars. Companies like Firefly, Eart and others have made truly fine instruments available at ridiculously low cost. In many ways life is indeed good! Shalom/gw PS I got a Black Friday last night, a Firefly, telle-style for $149. It had been a little over $200. Yep, I stole it! LOL

Of course things got a bit more serious later with Jimi and Jeff Beck…I slept with a guitar. My 1st was a pretty bad Harmony Acoustic….then I bought myself a used 66 Rickenbacker 360 after saving my paper route money for two years. I was in heaven, and my 1st band was born….😎

Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I do have a review of their 1st batch full bodied dreadnaught style (no electronics). It’s a bigger body with 3 piece back, no cutaway. I would think that both of the GAO1-E and this GTO1-E would be very similar with the same neck, electronic’s, ect….the biggest difference of course would be in the body depth. Having the larger, thicker body one would assume the volume of air being pushed would increase the overall volume of the guitar when playing acoustically. If your main use would be acoustic, it could be a benefit in that environment. Plugged in, I would think them to be very close in overall sound resonance. The Thinline having the advantage as being a more “comfortable” instrument for most. Hope that helps…either way these are hard to beat for the price point. Good luck on your decision! Appreciate your stopping into the channel! 🎸👍

Ha!! That’s good to hear! I only try to give a honest opinion of what I find. If you look at the specs, you will see that the build is the same…same tops, back and side materials and electronics. If you were sitting around with a few acoustic players, and they were all banging on full body dreads, then you perhaps would be at a disadvantage in keeping yourself heard in the mix with the Thinline. You would certainly get a bigger, fuller sound resonance with the larger body. However, if you are simply playing around for friends, or doing a single acoustic type performance, the Thinline will certainly hold its own. Plugged in, you would find it hard to distinguish between the two of them. Plug and go…EQ to taste if you want more bottom/top/whatever…

Any opinion on what the best strings are for a beginner with no experience or calluses?

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  9 місяців тому

Hi Dave…I will assume you are talking about acoustic strings? A lot of things can affect the “playability” of a guitar, both acoustic and electric with strings being near the top of the list. However, it’s also important to remember that hand/finger strength, muscle memory and calluses are a “right of passage” and really something that you need to develop over time. Not really any “shortcuts” you can take there, but a good setup on your guitar, along with quality strings can go a long way in helping you develop with the least amount of frustration along with playability, tuning, etc…
I encourage beginners to start/learn on an acoustic guitar because the string gauges tend to be thicker, which helps build hand/finger strength along with calluses quicker. You can also enjoy the “sound” of the guitar, hear the notes you are playing without the need for any other equipment, amplifiers, pedals and such. Once you have the basics down, can play some basic chords cleanly and change between them cleanly, then if desired, when you go to a well setup electric guitar, you will see and feel the difference. I would start with a decent set of 12’s on an acoustic to retain the full sound while still allowing the balance between playability and fullness. Phosphor/Bronze D’ADDARIO strings are a good, decent priced string. Hope this helps….keep pickin!! 🎸👍

I got one of these... loved the construction and look and the sound... but the fret work was pretty lame... I have it at the shop right now to get the frets leveled out and it's costing me the same amount as the guitar to do the fix... I don't know if my situation is constant, but it smacks of poor QC that it got out the door in the first place... Still even with the additional cost I feel it's worth it...

I got it a couple of weeks ago, from Guitars Garden, so it's straight from the factory... Yeah, my local repair guy is great and isn't really that expensive... I've heard other stories about the fret work on the acoustics... and don't get me wrong it was mostly playable as it was... but the G string on the 10th & eleventh fret were the same note, so I had to get that fixed no matter what... When he put the fret rocker on the frets there were a lot of places that rocked some... He thought that the frets weren't glued in... also the fret ends were kind of sharp... it's almost as if it got rushed through QC...
I think that the acoustics are made by a different company than the electrics... So that may be why the QC is different... I have 2 of those, the LP & 338, and the QC is great on both... Sound and play-ability on both are tops...

Gotcha….ok..yeah I am sure they probably used a different manufacturer to get these out. They travel a long way so a bit of “sprout” is not unusual. Seating the frets however is another issue. Improper seating with raise some frets, and usually this can be corrected with a bit of tapping down, but probably good you brought it to a local tech you trust to have a look. Hi Jimmy…I remember you telling me this from before. As I said, from what I understand, it is your bank that is charging the fee. I have my bank card set up via PayPal and no issues. PayPal protects both the customer and the vender, which is why this is their method of payment. I would call and speak to your bank or PayPal if you believe it is coming from their end. The purchase shouldn’t include a international transaction fee unless your bank is requesting it.

It’s a full size body acoustic/electric, however “thinner” in depth. You can watch my comparison video between this and its bigger brother, the GA01 here on the channel for differences, but both are auditorium size acoustic/electrics not 3/4.
