As a fervent Trump hater, I have to say, David...this was one of the most rambling, discursive, incoherent explanations I've ever listened to. Not very enlightening.
What IS clear -- even to an amateur like me -- is that Trump's confusion regarding Obama/Biden, Pelosi/Haley, etc. is a clear indication of his particular obsessions. He's paradoxically a megalomaniac and deeply insecure at the same time.

My mom lived to be 100 and she was sharp as a tack until the day before she died. There is a misconception that the human brain always fails with age. Not always.
The mind may lose a step or two, but a healthy individual can easily remain fully functional. My grandmother did until she died at 91. My grandfather maintained a franchise sales business without trouble until he died of a stroke at 83. Trump . . . well, apparently quite a few people who've known him for a long time are concerned.
Everyone is different. Some like Jeanne Louise Calment, where still as sharp even at 122, The interview with her talking about wrinkles is gold with one of the best replies I have heard. And she still smoked for 96 years,
Who says it's always the same? I've never seen that happen. Every patient in the world is different.
True my husbands grandmother lived through her 90s. Her mind was sharp but her body was failing. Same with her daughter's who lived close to 90. Trumps father if I understand correctly. Had diagnosed dementia or Alzheimer's. Not sure which. My dad had dementia mid 80s due to tiny strokes scarring the brain. I have an aunt who 2 yrs ago was told she had two mini strokes that showed up on a brain scan. She was baffled as to knowing when she could have had them. Today she shows signs of it when she is stressed.
Both neighbors(married couple) passed in their 90's. They were married in 1945. They died because their bodies wore out. Mentally, they were absolutely sharp. They also smoked their whole lives too.
I asked a Trump supporter if Biden is too old at 81 to be President and they said YES 81 is too old, then I mentioned Trump is 78 and will also be 81 if he got elected again and suddenly 81 wasn't too old anymore.....

I prefer younger candidates as well, but there is no real argument against an active and healthy elder in a leadership role. It's all about talent, skill and fitness. A president doesn't have to do 100 pushups everyday, not that kind of fitness.

My grandpa on my father's side passed away with Alzheimer's and it was so sad
He was a very vibrant active man who loved life. Reduced to a childlike state

That is what happened to my aunt, who was a sweet woman very loving to her husband and 2 children. She developed Alzheimer's and became the total opposite, to the point that she tried to batter her husband. They were Jehovah's Witnesses, the most gentle people in my life in my teen years. It was sad to see her deterioration and his heartbreak during her illness. They have both gone on, like all the rest of my family.
My dad had dementia. He became so angry it was hard to be around him. He would get easily confused. My brother never accepted that he had dementia which made it even worse.
And what about biden, he said his uncle was eaten by cannibals, he just spoke to the French president who died 30 years ago, he walked into a coffee shop last month and said, "hi I'm Joe Biden I'm running for Senate".

I found a high school book report I wrote almost 50 years ago on "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" while sorting through stuff, and it was pretty average level for a 15 year old, as I was an average, unremarkable student.

I’m not a dr but I live with my elderly mother who has dementia. It’s a terrible, frightening disease that I wouldn’t wish on any family. I see more of my mother’s symptoms in Trump than makes me comfortable.
Yes, trump needs a full examination by real doctors that will speak the truth. But this would make trump very vulnerable, so we need to listen to doctors that observe him from afar.

I knew a woman who was 104 (?), met her at a old folks centre, she was the sharpest and most active amongst the group. Some of the others who were in their early sixties had problems with cognition and memory. Age is not the only defining restriction on working/serving within your community. Trump however started at a low I.Q. level, and poor comprehension of the education he allegedly received. Allegedly. - There are stories out there suggesting that payments were made to ensure pass marks for his education. Allegedly.

My ex MIL is 84 and sharp as a tack. I love talking to her to get her opinions on just about everything because she is so wise. She works out 3-4 times a week at Curves, does water aerobics, does not drink or smoke, and I hope she lives longer than her awesome mother, who died at age 98 (still had acute mental faculties until the end).
I adore my MIL, or as I prefer to call her, my son's grandmother.
Oh, and she despises trump, and has long before he was a candidate. She was a teacher who taught ESL to immigrant children and she loved her work and misses her kids.

I'm a caregiver, and I deal with dementia patients a lot. In my experience, they all start out about the same, but it escalates differently. Signs are usually easy to see, but with Trump, you might consider Angry Dementia. I see signs of this creeping slowly in.
My mother was that kind. Until the last year where she was hardly aware of what was happening around her.

I took care of my mom with dementia/Alzheimers for the last 3 years of her life. I was her sole caregiver until the last 3 months when she stopped recognizing me and it became impossible to keep her safe. I recognize the difference between a person who is old, forgetful and slow, and a person who is suffering with dementia. Tump exhibits dementia with a massive amount of underlying ignorance.

He has taken the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) at least twice by his own admission. You only are asked to take that if your health care professionals are concerned that you may be showing signs of cognitive decline. It includes doing things like drawing a clock face with hands at 10 to 2, drawing a cube, drawing a line connecting a series of numbered dots in order, and being give a series of unrelated words at the beginning that you are asked to repeat back at the end of the test.
What is funny in some ways is that Trump seemed to think that passing the MoCA is a great accomplishment when you should be passing it quite easily if you have little to no cognitive impairment.
My mom took it a number of times over the years as her dementia progressed. The first tests showed very slight impairment but the last few she took showed a great deal of impairment.

My mother died of Vascular Dementia. My father is moving SLOWLY into severe Alzheimers. Neither of them could run a Business...much less...a Country...at any stage of their disease. I'd like to see this doctor mention GENETICS. Our parents doctor told us it is Genetic. Trump's father Fred Sr. died with Alzheimers. He was diagnosed in 1993 and died in 1999. Finally the doctor told us that either of these two diseases can lurk in our body for over 20 years...until a traumatic event happens and triggers it to Manifest. My dad had triple bypass surgery at one point, and not long before he went in for it we were talking and he was surprised to find out our town's name was spelled with an O instead of an A in it. We'd lived there for over 15 years. I was frankly baffled and caught my mom behind him shaking her head, like trying to get me to quietly stop and drop the subject. She later told me he wasn't getting quite enough oxygen to his brain at that time and might just have been processing poorly.
Now, I'm no medical professional so I dunno whether she was right about that, but if she was then I put forward the theory that Trump's heavy consumption of saturated fats may be a contributing factor.

Interesting. If I may add 1 thing, ive been an RN, BSN for over 3 decades and have given mini mental exams which is the test Trump describes as having taken. Its a very shortm 5 min easy tesy. But what this psychiatrist recommended for Trump is tthat he have a FULL psychological/mental assessment and testing and that assessment is about 4 hours long plus any scans that could help diagnose if he has dementia or other brain dysfunctions. So everyone just be careful and take Trump's "animal/clock test" stories with a grain of salt. That test barely tells you anythung and he needs much more indepth testing.

I work with dementia residents in a nursing home. Trump is going to have to pay a hell of a lot if money to get people to care for him if he doesn't fall of the pearch soon. He couldn't pay me enough to stick around. He appears to have a type of dementia associated with alcoholism.
Trump abused a lot of drugs like cocaine and Adderall ...Xanax. I know there was a story about Trump's Whitehouse Dr giving drugs out like candy, and a list of the staff favorites.

My Father died in 2014 at 89 years old, and he had Dementia. I lived with him for 2 years from 2012 until 2014, so I saw it 24/7, and I can tell you Trump has it for sure. He does all the same things my Father did. Memory loss, paranoia, cant find the right words to say, get's names mixed up, and on and on. I could tell my Father to let me know when 2 minutes are up, and 2 minutes would go by, and he would say nothing. I would say what about the 2 minutes, and he would say what 2 minutes.
So he could not even remember what he was told 2 minutes ago. He also used to get confused where he was, he would be in his home, and tell me he was at my brothers house. Then he would get up, and I would say where you going, and he would say I'm going home. Even though he was in his home, sitting in his very own recliner chair. I saw it 24/7 for 2 years, so I know Dementia when I see it, and Trump has it big time.
And one big thing is the people who have Dementia will look you straight in the eyes and tell you they do not have it, so even when they have it they do not know it, and they will swear to you they do not have it, and even call you crazy for saying they have it.
At one point we switched his social security checks to direct deposit, and he would go to the mailbox to get his check. I would tell him it was direct deposited to the bank, and he would not believe me, even after I showed him the bank statement. He thought me and my brother were stealing his money, when he was poor and he spent every dime he got every month.
He was only getting $1.500 a month from social security and a pension, so he was poor. He even thought the mailman was stealing his checks, and he chased the mailman down one day and harassed him. The post office called me about it, and I had to tell them he had dementia.
Many of Trump's issue are due to his personality disorders.
I have to push back against the ‘can’t find the right words to say’. I have struggled to find the word I’m looking for all my life and it has got a lot worse lately. All my friends around my age say the same thing.
Getting names mixed up is different from getting the person mixed up. One of our politicians was kicked out of his leadership position because he mixed up 2 names. I always thought this was unfair and done for purely political reasons. I’ve no doubt he knew the person he was speaking about but used another similar sounding name of someone who was in the news at the time.

I was in constant contact with people at the local Alzheimers office, and I told them about it. They told me it was common for people with Alzheimers and Dementia to have that problem. Me and my brother met with them quite a few times to discuss my Father, and I would call them about once a month and update them on his condition.
So they were advising me on what to do with him at all times, and one thing they told me was to treat him like a 12 year old. Which is what they need to be doing with Trump, he clearly has Alzheimers and Dementia, I see him talk and it makes me think of my Father, because they both did the very same things.

I now recognize that as the beginning of his dementia-personality changes.( I have seen other relatives whose dementia was signaled by an extreme rigidity of thinking, exacerbating the worst aspects of their personality.-like Trump) Next came asking me where to turn at places he had been going for years. From 82 on, the decline has been swift and harsh. At 91, he cannot eat on his own, walk on his own, and is largely blank. It is like watching the person you love disappear and die, long before their body gives up.

I loved this conversation. I suffered a traumatic brain injury 18 yrs ago and I am not the same person that I was before. My short term memory is horrible. I can watch a tv show and I can't remember what it was about 15 minutes later. I would never have confidence in Trump or Kennedy.

They can go hand in hand. I know this both from my nursing background as well as personally. I suffered a severe TBI after falling down my basement stairs (landed on the cement floor with my head & neck at the bottom). It totally destroyed my brain. And I sadly have a family history of late onset dementia.
