ALSO, please expand the title of your video, adding the words 'GM AFM lifter failure' in order for your great video to be captured by everyone with a lifter or AFM problem-- I have been researching this problem night and day for two weeks with mechanics and engineers and dealerships... and if I had seen your video first it would have taken me a day to get to the true bottom of this problem! (no mechanic ever used the term DOD, so I only searched by the terms 'lifter' and 'AFM' so your video did not come up to view. it was by fluke i came across it today!) Great work, sir!
Good in depth on the vlom. I run archoil ar9100 in my oil I had some issues used truck with the dod system added that to oil ever since no more issues. I've ran the stuff for over 100k in another engine with no problems. Add to each oil change good pm
I prefer to put a new vlom instead of cleaning. It cost $200- $350 at dealer. Valve lifter oil manifold.. and that sending unit filter cost like $8 dollars at Oreilly..
See my comments above-- cleaning this may not be the only problem. Most of these lifter failures come from this being an inferior gasket, so the gaskets shrink/pull away and that's what creates the inability of this gasket to hold the pressure in this area sufficient enough to activate the solenoids to oil the lifters, which then leads to lifter failure. They have recently updated this part to address this issue, so you should probably just replace the whole gasket instead of just cleaning it. See my comments for explanation.
Also if anyone is doing a DOD delete and you plan on changing your cam and lifters out and just shutting off the Vlom I'm leaving this cover on you cannot do that I will repeat you cannot leave this cover on! thinking you can just disable it in the computer oil will backfeed around the lifters go up into that Vlom cover and leak out the discharge oil ports and you will barely have any if not no oil pressure!! You have to block off those ports by buying another cover or making a plug kit or buying a DOD delete kit! Very important you cannot just disable it
If I just plug in the 'Range' disabling device and shut down the AFM without changing out the cam or doing anything else, will disabling the AFM with that 'Range' product/device CREATE the backfeed and leak at the discharge oil ports you describe? !! (or are you saying that only if I change/updating the cam without taking this out I will get this problem?) (In short, am I creating this problem you describe if I do nothing else besides plug in the 'Range' AFM disabler?)
Please respond. My plate was leaking so i bought the replacement gasket kit but i can not get the retainer plate or what evet apart to bbn put new gasket. Are the star bolts the only thing holding the retainer to the plate?
Where do I find that part that you say also needs to be cleaned that goes into your oil filter sending unit to clean it too? Is it located on the oil sending unit, or in the AFM manifold, or in the solenoids? (I'm referring to the Part in your hand at 2:17)
just changed one out. Its next to the fire wall backside of AFM manifold plate. i had to lay across the engine get to it on a 08 Z71. Can remove the oil screen with a narrow flat tipped screwdriver. I think i used a 7/8" socket and extension to remove the sensor, the screen is below it. (2-3 hrs)
Well this to me is now the best video on the planet. I’ve been in search for this info for a very long time.

cissy vaughn I’ve been searching for this for a year.
I knew that the lifter failed but weren’t the root cause.
You're a life saver! Thanks for the info man.

Good job on the video man! On the money!!!!
Could bad solenoids cause vibrations when engine goes to V4 mode? L99 engine
HOW DID YOU GET THE DOD SOLENOIDS OFF IT LOOKS LIKE ITS RIVETED ON??

how is the Range Device working for you 11 months later?
Ivo G I’ve had my afm/dod turned off via tune (blackbear) over 30k still runs fine.
Corey Anderson What do I have to do if I'm running a carburetor setup on my 4.8 do I have to change anything under that plate?
Friend what was the torque you used to tighten the active fuel managemen when you put it in the engine thanks

Is this under the intake? Also can I clean all the screens or just the one under the sensor?
Are all these filters necessary or can they be removed?

Oil pressure sending unit filter ? Can u pls tell me where is that unit ?? It’s it in that same plate ? Thanks .
