  • 2007 Tahoe Misfire Cylinder 7...error code P0307
    Causes: Spark Plugs / Spark Plug Wires / Ignition Coil Pack / Active Fuel Management (AFM) / Displacement On Demand (DOD)
    Replaced spark plugs, wires and ignition coil on Cylinder 7 and still had a misfire...after further investigation it was found to be a faulty collapsed AFM lifter. Released the lifter, modified the VLOM and had ECU reprogrammed to delete the AFM feature following Crazed Performance LLCs ‪@CrazedPerformanceRepair‬
    Everything works well now thanks to the modification instructions by Crazed Performance LLC at www.crazedperformancerepair.com and the AFM delete by Brendan over at www.lt1swaps.com

    My hat off to you, for someone that said they never did anything like this before you did a great job. Best thing to do is take your time, take pictures and videos and never be afraid to ask questions.
    I did notice your oil pressure was low before and after. On some of these 5.3 the O ring that holds the pick up tube goes bad and you suck up air. It is an easy fix also. Not sure if that is your problem.
    As a master tech of over 30 years, I must say good job

      Thanks man, that means a lot!! I had to do something cause this was my daily driver and my daughter had just total loss her car so we immediately went from 3 cars to 1 car and that sucks...Tahoe sat for a month so I decided to give it a go! And yea I have heard about the O ring issue...I will look into that...I did have a faulty harness going to the oil sending unit and I'm at around 40psi after swapping it out but I think I still should be higher than that so the O ring may be the culprit...Thanks again!

    • @DavidGuns
      @DavidGuns 2 роки тому +1

      @@87SSBOI If you put your mind to it you can do it. Sure some things a shop needs to do or someone with a full access scan tool.
      If you are getting around 40psi then that is ok, one thing you can really never trust your factory gauges. You could install a oil pressure gauge to take place of your. On these GM Clusters the stepper motors go bad, they used cheap solder and they develop cracks which will make the gauges act up.
      I wish when I went to mechanic school back in the 80's that we had social media like it is now lol a lot of reading back then but I wouldn't change anything from all I have learned and still learning every day.

  • @MAD_BST

    hopefully you got this fixed. collasped lifters means its time to afm delete. the afm system goes bad after like 50k miles and usually causes hella heartbreak. more if you have an upgraded camshaft. same thing happened to my car rn. ordered an afm delete kit, new pushrods, springs, etc that the person who had my car before me should have but didnt when they upgraded the cam. but the afm delete kit from a site like texas speed will fix this issue and give you the options you need to make sure it doesnt happen again.
    Also i would suggest link bar style lifters. why? one less fail point by removing the plastic trays all together. if u dont believe look up what happens when ur plastic lifter tray starts to get old. gl gb
    if you do the new lifters you can also add more hp to your car. glad to see you got it all sorted and this will def help my problem so you did help a bro out lol.

    I had the same problem except my truck had a tap on cylinder 6. Thought it was a spun bearing, or the flexplate. Turns out the dod/afm system caused this to happen. I would seriously consider doing a dod delete bro, bc it probably will happen again. The dod system works good until you get up into higher miles then it starts failing. I'm in the process now of a cam swap, a non dod valley cover, LS7 lifters and tray, high performance pushrods, and LS7 valve springs. They also have a device made by range that you can plug into your ob reader port that turns the dod system off as well.

    Not sure if we chatted about it but, your oil pressure is low. Might want to look into that. Thanks for the shout out. Feel free to PM me on my website if we didn't chat on it. I can give you all the common possibilities.

      CPR is the goat of this mod. I did the same thing and I'm not a mechanic either. I drove on it 6 months without sending the computer off. I have a misfire in 4 now, but couldn't get it unstuck. I parked it and bought a Toyota. I'll mess with it this summer. Have you had any issues since then?

      @@dustindhansen darn, if 4 has an issue now while having the VLOM mod done it's not likely a simple collapse. It's more likely a spun lifter from a bad plastic guide or something.

    So did you actually fix the lifter problem or did you just use that punch on it and collapsed in it fixed itself and if that’s the case, wonder why it was stuck to begin with

    • @87SSBOI
      @87SSBOI  Рік тому +1

      No can't say I actually fixed it...I just uncollapsed the spring on the lifter...I'm not sure why this happens but it's a common problem on these engine if u have the flex fuel dod/afm

      @@87SSBOI So they way the AFM lifters work is they use oil pressure to push in the locking pins and collapse the lifters to prevent the pushrods from opening the valves. Sometimes they stick in the collapsed position. Once you got the lifter unstuck, the locking pins that pop out to keep the lifter at full length. Once you delete the AFM, those lifters should never get the required oil pressure to move those locking pins. In theory, they should remain locked in the 'out' position. So yes it can be called fixed. I've been running my deleted 2009 Tahoe for well over 150,000 miles since turning off the AFM. 233,000 miles total.
