Granted he died before he age of Tony Hinchcliffe, Louis CK, Dave Chappelle, Zach Galifianakis, yada yada... It's the same joke but different crowd. I think they call it 'working it out'. Given that Mitch died at 37, and all of the named comedians are older than that, that's exactly how comedy works. You try a joke in every way possible to different crowds to get the maximum amount of laughs until it's perfect. Only then does a comedian put it into a special, because specials are known for their perfected comedy. It's the simple economy of jokes. The only problem that would arise is if someone else started telling YOUR/Their jokes before you got it to peak laughter. It's rude and disrespectful to steal someone's work while they are working it out.
