I'm a veteran who worked in communications intelligence in the 1960s covering Soviet Air Defense in the Black Sea and other networks. We had no hostile feelings toward them at all and felt that they naturally were our brothers and sisters. The U.S. was always reseasing scare stories about Soviet capabilities and intentions that we knew weeren't true. As an example, read Assault on the Liberty by James M. Ennes, Jr. about how in 1967 the Israelis attempted to sink the USS Liberty, an intelligence gathering ship that the U.S. tried to cover up.

2) Scott Ritter is openly siding with Russia, giving pep talks to Russia troops in Chechnya
3) Scott Ritters rights to free speech and expression are not curtailed - he is still free to say what he pleases here
4) Traveling abroad on a US passport is not a fundamental civil right, it is a privilege. If you look in your passport you will see that it is in fact the property of the US government.
5) Under current Supreme Court precedents, the right to travel abroad is merely an aspect of liberty that may be restricted within the bounds of due process.
The question then is: Was due process followed? DOS has yet to issue a statement.

He gained a reputation in the city of St Petersburg mayors office under the pro democracy liberal mayor, in a position of general administrator, essentially tackling any problem citizens brought to the attention of the city government. He as so effective that he as moved to Moscow to solve some problems at a mid level but quickly gained a reputation of trouble maker as the only person who was not corrupt so to be avoided. Yelsin devised a plan to resign without even telling his on secretary and announced on TV to all the people(he admitted to believing if not done on TV live he would have been assassinated by the CIA) and announced his resignation as president and appointed Putin as interim Sec of State until elections could be formed. Putin had been in Moscow just long enough to understand who the major threats to democracy were and was amazingly effective and even did the impossible, brought all the oligarchs in for a meeting, there were a crooks ith their on armies to take out other oligarchs armies all under US approval. He shocked them by telling them they had 3 and only 3 choices 1, they could keep their stolen assets because only they knew how to run them but had to pay all employees long owed wages, obey all laws and stay out of interfering with government, and any crimes after that day would be prosecuted, or 2, they could leave the country and take their stolen assets but never interfere with Russian government again, or 3, continue as they are and be procescted for all crimes and die in prison. Some refused to accept any rule by law but most at the meeting, still in shock choose to leave the country since they all had ties to UK or US government and could return with governent help to take back control of Russia. The cities of NYC and London has bidding wars competing against each other to attractive these criminals, all offer total amnisty and instant citizen ship and access to government officials if they brought their stolen money with them. A few decided to stay and obey the laws and actually became effective business leaders who stayed out of politics one however tried to take over government with help from the CIA ad ended up being convicted of a past crime and spent time in prison until he left for USA and Spain and still seeks to overthrow Putin and behinds the Novohok claims. and worked with Navalny when both were in Washington DC
Russia suddenly had rule of law and the US was furious because their plans to break up the country was crippled and from that meeting forward the Russian economy grew between 3.8 to 6.9% every year until 2008 when the US economy melted down but the transformation of Russia has bee dramatic with increased quality of life, lowering crime to lower than any large country, enhanced democracy, increase male life expectancy 12 years(while male life expectancy in the US has been declining, the only developed country with males have such short lives), greatly expanded small and mid size business, eliminated homelessness, crime dropped so much they closed 73 prisons in 2017, restructured the free health care to be excellent. Even doctor house calls are free.started progroms for free land, even for foreigners if the and develop it, made the streets the safest in Europe, Rebuilt the legal and court system. The distant regions were still corrupt as when under US rule in the 90s, all the govenors were fired and federal administrators moved in to clean up the corruption than in 2010, returned to local rule after cleaning up the corruption. As a result the regions are thriving and great places to raise families and start businesses with easy federal loans

Talk to anyone from the westn who moved to Russia since 2000 and ask the how their life is, have they had any problems at all, or how the the economy works or cities are safe and clean. I have been here in St Petersburg 24 years, as an American was able to start businesses with the easist processes I never imaging after being in business in the US for decadeds before that. In all way, life was hard in the 1990s when the US controlled the government and impoverished the entire country and caused crime to explode. After all that was ended in 2000 quality of life, ease of living, quality of services, personal freedom freedom from crime, unmatched access to culture and services, ease of raising a family, honesty of politicians, how everyone gets along, how social and active every city is, people are out doing things, not sitting watching TV, in the evenings it sems 1/2 the population is out sociaiizing ...nothing like the US whee drive to work, come home or drive through fast food, watch TV or computer fall asleep and repeat.

How any Americans could attend a world class opera or ballet tonight or visit a great museum.Or see a high grade play? Heck in my adopted city I am walking distance to 238 dama theater, and 54 classical music housed of 8 opera houses 47 jazz clubs, and 473 museums. Every 10 year old has seen dozens of world class opera and ballet that your kids in the US can never experience. The last time I was in NYC my GF saw an ad for an opera we both like, the only theater in the entire country with opera that night, so I went to get tickets...2 tickets at the MET were $1600!! We see better in better theaters any night for $20. Americans are used to total absence of culture and think that is normal. Childen or students of any age or nationality /citizenship get free access here. The legal min paid vacation is 58 days, having a baby is not only fully covered but the mother gets 3 full years of full salary to stay home with the child plus the family is given a grand of cash to use to buy a larger home. Almost everyone over 20 has a degree and no debt, and owns their home. I am the only person I know who leases
The cost of living is so low that a street musician can work a few hours 2-3 times a week in the summer and live off that all year . The food is much healthier and cheaper, and no one needs a car in any city due to very good public transportation plus the famous beautiful subways. I have had no desire to get a car here, which is strange for a car collector since 15you and had the largest private collection of restored Maserati classics in the the US. So my very active social and cultural life would be impossible to duplicate in the US or any amount of money, I spend less than $1400 a month for two people and it would be much less if I owned my home like everyone I know over 18 has their own home

I know one thing, Americans will never allow any Government to restrict their freedom of speech and movement. Americans have enjoyed these freedoms forever, attempting to take that away from them will be asking for trouble.
I love our country, not the one we have nowadays. I also have nothing but love for the great people of Russia. I really hope this tragedy does not happen.

The silencing of Dissidents to US domestic and foreign policy is obvious.
I have been wondering how long it would take for this to come out in the open. Actions by government and judiciary no longer have to be logical or legal.
The question remains: what type of move was this against Ritter and what remedies does he have at his disposal.
Are there charges in progress against Ritter. It appears there are Due Process issues here because a siezure of property was involved and perhaps a technical arrest.
Scott has such a wonderful soul and he was always proud of beeing american. What he wanted to achieve, a better understanding beween americans and russians is so precious, Scott should get a price for it.
