It’s crazy how much of an imagination George Martin has, he puts so much detail to yeh characters and gives each king unique and specific characteristics that differs them apart
Yea, he's created such a fascinating story with some of the richest characters I've ever read. He's the GOAT
Alot of it is based on real life history.
File off the serial number, change red to purple, add a few splashes of imagination, but it on a blender and serve.

Aegon I conquered the realm. Aenys mishandled it. Maegor wrecked it. Jaehaerys I rebuilt it. Viserys I set it up to get wrecked again. Rhaenyra and Aegon II burnt it to the ground. Aegon III got depressed while other people patched it back up. Daeron I went off to Dorne and got killed. Baelor went full blown religious nutter. Viserys II actually knew what he was doing... for a single year. Aegon IV completely f***ed everything, literally. Daeron II acquired Dorne but also got stuck with his dad's mess. Aerys I was barely worth mentioning. Maekar was a great fighter, which was too bad for his brother. Aegon V hosted the worst family barbeque ever. Jaehaerys II ah... happened. and Aerys II went completely nuts and ruined everything.
Shout out to Jaehaerys II, he was alright, just wish he had lived longer
And kudos to Daeron for actually managing to take Dorne, even without Dragons. Didn't hold it for long but, considering the state of the Realm at that point, I'll give him credit. Granted, he still lost it, with little gain other than Martial Clout, and lost Aegon's Crown apparently. Man's basically said "Dorne can't be taken by conventional means? I'll take that bet". He won, then lost so, we'll call it a tie 😅
All the Targaryens named Daeron have been interesting, now that I think about it. Daeron the Daring, Daeron 1 and 2, and then Daeron the Dreamer. Overall, they've got a better track record than most of the Aegon's

It's worth pointing out that Robert Baratheon had Targaryen ancestry, as well. His grandmother was a Targaryen. Although many people (including Robert himself) may believe he won the crown by right of conquest, in reality his claim comes from his own Targaryen ancestry. This is part of the reason why none of the other great houses contested Robert's claim to the throne. The Baratheons were related to the Targaryens since the Conquest. In fact, Aegon I gifted Storms End to the Baratheons after the Storm King was defeated during the conquest. The Baratheons are considered the youngest of all the great royal houses of Westeros as they were not lords and held no titles prior to the Conquest. So it's quite ironic that it was a Baratheon that brought the Targaryen Dynasty to an end.
To be honest, while Robert killed rhaegar, it was jon arryn that started the rebellion & told Robert to become king
@laza0202 Jon Arryn started the rebellion because Aerys demanded that he turned over his wards Robert and Ned, who at this point were completely uninvolved. But my point stands, Jon and Ned accepted Robert's claim to the throne out of loyalty. Hoster Tully went along with it too due to his political ties with the North and the Vale. And Tywin got his daughter married to the king which is what he wanted all along. But at the end of the day, this acquiescence was due to Robert's ancestry. Jaime asked Ned why he didn't just take the throne as he arrived to Kings Landing before Robert. The answer is simple Ned never wanted to be king, he was loyal to Robert, and Robert had the better claim.
@@josharguello4313 true, what I mean for my point to stand is that the dynasty ended ultimately cuz jon decided to rebel, considering Robert didn't have targ blood, they would still rebel against them, who would be king idk maybe jon himself
@laza0202 Without Robert's Targ ancestry, the rebellion would have been more disorganized and probably unsuccessful. Robert was a palatable alternative to most of the rebels to rally around. Without Robert, the rebels themselves would have probably turned against each other even if they were successful in overthrowing Aerys. I don't see Tywin settling for less and playing second fiddle to anyone else.
@@josharguello4313 I mean till the dynasty fell, ok, North vale riverlands stormlands were the kingdoms in rebellion, u could argue there were some lords in these kingdoms that weren't w' Robert, but I mean in general, I'm not saying for who became king, I mean for those kingdoms uniting & fighting against the crown, without robert's targ blood they would still rebel, jon still would start the rebellion
One would think this was a real Historical event, the attention to every minute detail and complexity, there was no glitch to the storyline. Such a powerful imagination from the author. G.R. R Martin.

Dude wrote an entire history book about a fictional family from the points of view of unreliable sources. Man's and absolute genius. If only he would finish the song of ice and fire novels
This shows how much world history G.Martin really had and how seamlessly he created a believable backdrop whilst providing a fantasy world. That is no easy feat to allow a reader an escapism whilst using enough sources to make it feel real

I started to rewatch and reread and take perspective from as different families and characters etc things I missed originally the amount of depth and questioning it leads to I can’t imagine a lifetime would suffice on solving it 😂 but I’ll keep trying

Honestly I thought the Targeryens ruled for over a thousand years... And I was mind blown to hear that the events in HOTD are happening only 70-100 years after Aegon's conquest.

Like...all these images make them look like adults well into their 40's, while they were barely adults half of the time
It is appx. +/- 298 years, from 1 AC of Aegon I to 282 AC of Mad king (282 years) plus 16 years in to Robert Baratheon reign (283-298 AC). I remember Arya and Tywin discussed about haren and his sons were burnt alive by Aegon I. Tywin said : Aegon I then changed the rules (not sure what rule Twyin was talking about) and thats why every new born child today knows his name 300 years after his death (Tywin was refering to time gap between present day to time of Aegon I which is appx. 300 years). But I agree It is like 2000 to 1700 AC of our time. Quite short. For dragons to go extinct it is still reasonable but not the lost of valeryan steel technology. We are talking about a large interconected advance literate societies and somehow they all lost this technology within in 300 years. compared that to almost 1000 years of Damaskus steel that survived quite long in less connected society full of illiterate peoples.
If only the Targs prioritized their dragons growth and their children's growth and familial ties, and made it about the family as the seat of power instead of fighting over it... dragons may be fierce but they are stronger together, forged in fire and blood ... but alas.
Yea, the Dragonpit in particular really stunted the Dragons growth over time. "A Dragon is not a slave" as it were
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 that and the fact that they chained and saddled their dragons. That doesn't practically help with growing them. If they would've converted Dragonstone as the seat or house for dragons and propagated the children on there and used King's Landing as just maybe a hub instead of where to actually rule from.

Saddles on the Dragons would be OK if they were sized up every now and then to promote growth
Facts. So many Targaryen infighting even though, regardless, they often marry each other anyways, all share the same familial blood and Ancestry, and would have Targaryen kids anyways.
The Dance of the Dragon could've been avoided with just marrying them. Funnily enough, Dany and Jon could've done this too, but alas, Varys and his ridiculous comment about it doomed that as well.
The whole Blackfyre situation could've been better handled as well, and they're all Targaryens in the end via blood, regardless of name.
Nice video! Part of me wishes that House of the Dragon would start right from Aegon's conquest, but really looking forward to seeing the Dance too.

Aegon's Conquest is just F-22 vs swords & spears, its a stomp, not really much there for storytelling. The Dance is a much better story with a lot of interesting morally grey characters.
I really hope the show fast forwards a couple of generations and ends with the tragedy at Summerhall and the birth of Rhaegar so hopefully we can just get the ‘Robert’s Rebellion’ prequel that’s the big conflict before GOT

It's incredible how much thought George puts into his stories.
this is nice and all, but it omits the fact that Rhaenerya did actually become reigning queen between Aegon II and Aegon III. I think it warrants mentioning that there actually was a queen on the throne, no matter how short her reign was
I guess that's because the King decreed that she be known only as Princess and never an Queen

When Aegon ( rhaenerya targaryen brother) won the civil war he said that history wouldn't remember her reign.

After Aegon II killed Rhaenyra and returned to Kings Landing he had all record of her rule as queen destroyed, which is why she is never listed in any of the official records as queen of Westeros.

I wonder whether Balerion the Black Dreads size was considered big in Valyria or not. Imagine a King Ghidorah with three heads :O
I wonder that myself from time to time, I have to imagine Valyria had some Massive Dragons.
Well there is ways to look at it.
When They came to dragonstone, Balerion was smallest of the 5 Dragons. Urax was fiercest of them all (One being a mutated sea dragon, nagga, whose bones are near Iron Island).
Balerion Was quite big even by Valyria's standard because He lived for about 150+ Years. No other dragon even came close to living that long not even vhagar as she was Super young and was hatched after Aegon I was born. (Do keep in mind, before Aegon I's conquest, Balerion was already at peak of his strength)
Maybe not I bet in Valyria he would consider him small it others houses have dragons older than him.

The illustrations come from the Game of Thrones History & Lore retellings. If you're referring to around 7:40 then that's a depiction of Robert vs Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident.

I think the reign of Aegon the Unworthy the legitimization of the great bastards and the subsequent war that followed would make a great series. They should follow with that after they're done with the Dance of Dragons they wouldn't even need to change the name of the show.
Absolutely! As much as I'd like to see Aegon's Conquest & Balerion the Black Dread on screen, the Blackfyre Rebellions are much more compelling stories & alot less one sided.
Definitely Blackfyre Rebellion and Robert's Rebellion series. They've got some awesome battles in there

I know there are five main books and two more in development but how many others are there..or any books connected to the story? (like The tales of Dunk and Egg ..and all the books about the Targaryen history..) because there's literally SO MUCH history about the main story..so much material.. so many details and characters....

something you got incorrect in this video. rebellion didn't start after after lyanna kidnapping, it started months after that due to aerys action when he killed rickard and brandon stark(brandon deserved it for shouting come out and die to rhaegar when he went there basically committing treason), imprisoned elbert arryn and called for ned's and robert's head to be delivered to aerys by jon arryn. in fact, it was jon arryn who called the banners first in the rebellion
Not sure what you mean. That's exactly what i said, the Rebellion started AFTER the kidnapping.
he didn't imprison any arryns it was starks dad and brother and he told John arran to send neds and roberts heads

Only Rickard came (probably because he was nearby at Riverrun), and after he lost that sham trial with Brandon dying as well, Aerys executed all of Brandon's companions except Ethan Glover who was too young
It was after that when Aerys asked for Ned's and Robert's heads

Rhaenira was a queen for a short time in the end of the Dance of Dragons.

Where did you get information about the kings after Aegon III. I've only read Fire and Blood and it's stops at him.
Most of the info was pieced together from Fire & Blood, the main ASOIAF book series, the Dunk & Egg Novellas, the world of ice & fire, the rise of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones History & Lore extras ect.

Man I wish they started house of the dragon at Aegean’s conquest and end it at Roberts rebellion with the battle of the trident.

Thanks, part of me wanted to go a little deeper but i was trying to get the video around the 20 min mark. But I'll be doing plenty of deep dives into alot of them & other characters on the channel. Okay hear me out, daemon was looking out for his family, only Targaryen family is who he cared about. He saw the coming destruction of the Targaryen household which is why he completely tries to put house Targaryen forward and after he realized this isn’t going to happen he throws himself in battle to die idk but show daemon has me thinking he’s not all bad but only thinking of his family and their approval.
I see a lot of comments about why are there so many Aegon and this is because they were all trying to compete aegon prophecy which is (the song of ice and fire ) and all the stuff with the long night and the knight king
Aegon: build the realm, laid the foundations
Aenys: peaceful and kind, but also so weak that the respect for house Targaryen wayned
Maegor: restored the respect for his family and the crown but also so brutal that it damaged the realm. also OG mad King but I think he's cool
Jaehaerys: healed the realm from Maegors reign but benefited from the respect he had thanks to Maegor
Viserys: same as Aenys, his weakness caused the dance of dragons, has a phenomenal actor though
Aegon 2: unclear due to not spoiling us (thx btw) ruled during the dance of dragons but the war wasn't really his fault (he is a piece of sh*t during the show though)
Aegon 3: united the greens and blacks so that's something
Daeron: conquered dorne uniting the 7 realms
Baelor: really loves the gods (no surprise the literally looks like Jesus). also the episode in which Ned dies in named after him, so as an atheist and a Ned stand i don't like him
Viserys 2: his reign was "quality over quantity" I guess
Aegon 4: ugly, horny and an idiot. why not legitimize only 1 of his bastards, actually just realized he had regular sons so why legitimize any of them? didn't think that one through apperantly
Daeron 2: brought dorne back without bloodshed which is cool but had a lame death. F-Tier (jk Im not ranking them). was kinda f*cked over by Aegon 4.'s lack of braincells
Aerys: had a difficult reign but handled it pretty well. funny considering someone like Viserys 1. had a peaceful reign but still f*cked everything up, while others like Aenys or Daeron 2. had difficult reign but handled it like champs though they obviously had a lot of help but so did all Kings and getting competent help is a talent as well
Mycar: Warrior King. i can respect that but you'll never be like Maegor or Daemon (show). you are worthless and deserved to die. do you guys realize that Im tired? it's 6 AM and Im still awake, certified gamer moment
Aegon 5: Egg. I like eggs. you're making me hungry. good reign apperantly. fire can't kill a dragon yet he died in a fire. that's because Aegon 5. isn't a dragon he's an egg although Dragons hatch from eggs. don't think Dragon Eggs would taste good though, and I like the idea of Egg tasting good. like why would your name be Egg if he didn't taste good. he did die in a fire so he was probably more like a chicken egg which is good because they probably taste better than dragon eggs. not that I could know for sure how dragons taste I've never seen one. now Im tired and hungry
Jaehaerys 2: finally were done with these blackfyres. like we get it you're cool but now you only exist in history books which isn't so cool. not as breathtaking as Egg but then again Egg is a deity beyond our understanding so I can't hold it against Jae 2.0
