    I really like this ship, it's fast and looks good. And has on the best interiours.
    You forget to mention that it's one of the safest ships to travel around. Because it's max speed allows it to outrun most fighters (and the QT blocking mantis). And it's strong shields make sure that it will reach the speed.
    It would be nice if a ROC would fit inside. Or if it had more firepower. But it's all ok for this ship.
    The thing bothering me the most is the top turret. Not only blocking the view, the hull also blocking the fire ark. The top turret on top of the ship with a full 360 ark would be nice.

    • @CasaBLACK
      @CasaBLACK  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah my wife did not like the top turret at all and you are absolutely correct, I did not mention how fast it is, I was too busy complaining about how slow it turned, but that is also because of its speed as faster ships have a harder time turning.

      To me the 400i is more of a smuggling ship with it's speed, not a combat ship. With 4 S3 facing back, it's like a Saber firing at you all the time, if you try to chase it and that's a dangerous position to be in.

    The main point for me with this ship, and the reason I keep using it for daily drive, is the fast speed, and how quickly it accelerates put of atmo. Keeps me safe from pvp, and most things. Yes not best for bounty hunting and trading, but I cant find another ship that can land quickly, escape atmo fast, very high top speed to escape and feel safe with beefy shield.

    Best review of the ship I have seen. Variant wise I'd like to see a bounty hunter version. Maybe have the x1 bay be a live prisoner cell for hauling high end baddies around while keeping them isolated from the crew. Or alternately have an Erik Estrada approved CHiPs version of the x1 bike and some of the prisoner cells in the cargo area.

    This is, in fact, one of the best ships to take to dangerous places. It's FAST! Most ships are not able to catch up with it and those who can, are not be able to make a dent on its shield before it quantums away.

    I agree it is gorgeous, except for the cabin. The cabin part looks like someone put a primitive shape like a can, cut sloppy rectangle holes into it and just glued it to the rest of the ship which is much more stylized and smooth.
    At the very least they should have slightly curved the deck at the lower part of the cabin windows to continue the flow and not let that square part smash you in the face like a doorstop when trying to follow those beautiful curves.
    But one reason I love the ship is its equipment/role. A defensive, sleek exploration ship that doubles as passenger transport is exactly what I want, even though most of the gameplay for it isn't in the game yet.

  • @AnthonyArndt

    You might not be able to get them in-game at the moment, or any more, but there's also the Stella Fortuna (Stella Fortuna, green and black), Penumbra (Concierge, grey and gold), and Meridian (Concept sale, polished steel) paints. I have all 3. The Meridian is my absolute favourite. I feel it's the most beautiful paint on (one of) the most beautiful of ships. I wanted to love the Stella Fortuna since it's the skin I use on my Mercury and 600i, but it couldn't beat the Meridian. Same with the Penumbra. I was hoping it would match the 600i executive (which I am... a *long* way away from) or the Mercury's Advocacy paint (which I missed by 3 days), but it's just a muddy grey with some dull gold trim. I am really hoping that the X1(-Force) will be out soon, but until then I've been flying with a Nox. It's a pain to get the Nox in, but it works. And with a base model Cyclone, it's a great daily driver. I put the Invictus Blue and Gold paint on my Cyclone. The solid, dark blue paint with solid gold dash is so very extra in a very Origin way.

    First, great video. As usual, you lay it out objectively then give your subjective view.
    Second, disclaimer - the 400i is one of my top 3 favorites. The following info is tinted with that love.
    The 400i is a perfect ship for myself and the team. Utilized as an investigative explorer and courier, the three of us are very successful.
    1) The ship has a slightly faster top speed than a Gladius. Combine that with focused defensive turrets and a large shield, this enables us to escape situations we do not want to be in. Unlike the Connie and Corsair, this gal is designed to flee trouble.
    2) The cargo bay we use mostly for a Drake Mule (I know, ironic in an Origin vessel) to handle boxes (recovery or courier missions) plus loot. This so leaves room for a dozen SCU crates of our own or minor trades. Future - supplies and spare parts.
    3) The redundant coolers and power plants, in addition to back up, can be utilized to modify the ship status. Place one cooler and one power plant with Stealth ones, then turn off the other ones while crusting to reduce signature. Not fully effective in current game but you get the idea.
    The strengths of this ship, compared to the competing Aquila and Corsair, is the speed and maneuvering plus the furthest quantum range. Really look forward to the Corsair arriving so we know where all 3 stand officially.

  • @johnboyd9713

    All of CIGs large and medium ships have been criminally undergunned. The 400i needs to either handle WAY better or have better pilot guns. Even if it was as well armed as a connie, I still don't think that would be overpowered as the Connie has more utility. This ship is sluggish in every sense of the word, and even with its good top speed, it takes a long time to get there.
    My dream for this would be 4xs3s or 4s for the pilot or, hear me out, 2xs6 to make you rely on the turrets for fighters, move the turret on top of the cabin or have it fold out, and have it handle like a freelancer. Still less utility than a connie, but more fun to fly and a bit more dangerous in combat. Either that or strip all pilot guns and just make the thing handle even better and fly even faster, making it very hard to kill or catch like a VIP transport. IDC. With the chiller rooms below decks, the option of computers and whatever data running entails is there too.
    As is, it kinda does nothing for as expensive as it is. Add this to my hot-take list of duds like the Spirit, 100 series, and to a lesser extent, the MSR and 300 series.

    Nice video. Informative without being too long (though you failed to mention the X1 garage)
    I have owned a 400i since it was released and I am still struggling to decide whether to melt it. The problem is that I already own an MSR which has more than twice as much cargo, very similar firepower (though it can use both turrets forward as well) and handles almost the same as well as being faster outside QT. All the 400i seems to have going for it is that exploring might turn out to be fun but then we will have the Corsair soon for exploring and that has much more firepower and 80% more cargo space. It wont be as pretty or luxurious but some people prefer the 'rugged & ugly' look.

    • @CasaBLACK
      @CasaBLACK  2 роки тому

      Oh yeah, the Corsair might just replace my Taurus even though it won't quite have as much cargo space. I would like something that I think looks cool and it being from Drake is also a plus for me. The MSR is nice, but I would really like to see a more rough and tumble less techy variant that focuses on less doors and security and more cargo and hidden holds.

    • @RetinaBurner
      @RetinaBurner 2 роки тому

      Keep in mind that the 400I is also better on fuel in atmo and out, and is also faster in atmo than the MSR, since it has so much less bulk to haul around. I've taken her on long flights on Microtech and other planets and moons, and had fuel to spare on return to 'civilization'. That said, as far as QT goes, it really depends on what drive you put in her. I tend to go with the Crossfield, mainly because it's not much slower than the XL-1, but gets better range. As for cargo, she's a slimmer ship, so she's not going to be a cargo hauler, unless possibly for high value goods (I leave the definition to those reading.)
      I'm also looking forward to the Corsair. She's an interesting looking ship, and the firepower is something to be wary of, if you're any other ship in that size class.

    • @RobinHartJones
      @RobinHartJones 2 роки тому

      @@RetinaBurner I knew the 400i was faster in atmosphere but did not know about the better hydrogen fuel economy and I cannot deny that the MSR is heavy on hydrogen fuel. I suppose it comes down to whether you expect to travel much in the atmosphere or mostly just go from orbit to the port and back. In quantum they should be the same as they use the same drive though I think the MSR has a larger quantum tank.

    You didn’t seem to realize that stealth is a normal portion of pathfinding, and that this is the largest and best equipped stealth ship in game. It is in fact an excellent choice for dangerous areas like Pyro because of its stealth. It’s a much better choice than the Conny or MSR because it can go undetected. Fitout for stealth and leave the guns and shield off until needed.

      I did not forget, it's simply not really in game yet so cannot review it, but yes it's speed and going under the radar will make it good for those things assuming CIG doesn't come along and offer up a similar ship when that times comes as they so often do.

    Great video CasaBlack!
    As mentioned below there are several additional paints that have been available in the past but maybe no longer easily accessible these days. With a decent CCU pathway I have been able to get the 400i for $140 which is quite acceptable rather than the fairly expensive $250 standard price. As I am a non PvP'er the speed of the 400i is a great advantage which I suspect will become quite valuable in more dangerous systems where high valuable commodities are likely to be found.
    Hopefully the 400i's speed edge will place it well with the planned future flight changes as well, however, we all have to wait and see how this plays out...
    A few players don't like the 400i as it currently stands and I can understand their viewpoint. In my opinion though, a lot of this ship's value has yet to be realised and thus we have to wait a while with future content being provided in the PU.
    Keep up the great work!

    Some friends and I have done ERTs and run Xenothreat with this ship. In the right hands, she's a beast. Will she solo-kill an Idris? Nope. But again, she can fight. I don't think the ship should be altered for 'here and now' requirements, but should keep what it has for when it's fully available. Otherwise CIG will have to go back in later on and reverse all the 'here and now' changes to re-incorporate all the intended capabilities of the ship. Not only that, but if players get used to the 'h&n' version, they won't have a chance to see the ship as it was originally intended. I do agree that the weapons could stand an upgrade, perhaps to size 4s in the front, with gimballing. Also, the top rear turret needs to be moved to the spot that looks like it was intended for it, on top of the ship, rather than where it is now, because that would improve its firing arcs, and get it out of the view of the ship's occupants. (This last one is a pet-peeve.) My 2 cents.

    I want to see remote turrets become size 4 and retractable, S5 hardpoint (s4 gimballed)pilot weapons, make holo table retractable from the floor, bigger windows in general but definitely a skylight ceiling window over the holo table, the air fuel regen system like the 100 series has, change the rear cargo lift arms so they aren’t so big and blocking everything and make it into something sleek like 1 thin lifting arm on the front instead of the sides and make it more agile (roll rate is way too slow).
    Variants like the 300i having the 325a and 315p would be nice, with the current 400i being the base model.
    The 415p having a tractor beam on the nose with more cargo, fuel and maybe a scanner turret (could replace the top turret with a scanner) and maybe even comes with an X1.
    A 425a with S6 hardpoint (s5 gimballed)pilot weapons, S5 remote turret, slightly better speed/agility, a drop in cargo capacity but maybe another shield/better armour and maybe even comes with a X1 force.

    This ship needs at least two non swappable s5 turrets each with x2 s4's on front for the pilot similar to those on the Freelancer to be at least close to the other ships in the same price and category. Also, I really don't understand the reasoning for that top turret to be where it is now. It ruins the view and there's literally a perfect circular spot on top of the ship with the Origin Logo just a little bit further ahead. It would also give the turret better shooting angles making it a bit less useless because let's face it, this ship is already undergunned, if you add poor shooting angles you're doomed. The 400i should rival the Andromeda and Corsair but in all honesty, it's more on Cutlass Black territory, and the Cutty costs 150usd less on the website and a whopping 5.1 million more in game. I love the interior layout, I really do, but that's basically a scam xD

It is clearly not made for offensive combat however it has a ton of shielding and rockets to gain some time against or even counter-attack any hostiles. 400i is very much daily-able for reasons such as quantum performance, shields, size, maneuverability and beds. Another reason its a great ship, at least for my personal needs, is that the ship feels like a home with the interior design and spacing.
    I tend to live away from stations and carry all my stuff physicallized however the early stage nature of the game means that I frequently loose everything to client side crashes. This ruins the entire point of running a 400i for me.

    A certain amount of cargo can also be cooled - surely CIG already knows what that might be for.
    I love the quick elevator. But the space in the 400i is too small in equal measure as the 600i is too big.

      @@blacksheepwall79 Okay, so you're just not a fan, I think with some of these radical designs it's going to illicit either/or in terms of like. I like that this ship sort of deviates from most of the other Origin designs as some of the ship brands can sometimes tend to look too copy and pasted. (Anvil I'm looking at you.) I appreciate when the designers kind of go away from some of the normal looks of a brand, and yet I still like how brands have some hallmarks to where you can tell their brand. It's a difficult line to walk, lol. Thanks for sharing.

      @@CasaBLACK Yeah I just don't like this design. Not a fan of the "Boats in space" Aesthetic.
