I've heard that Yucatan food is much different than other parts of Mexico, and as yet have not had the pleasure to have it. You sure made me want to go there. You know I just LOVE the markets.

      @JoseArteaga 5 років тому +3

      Claro que si, or you can move in with me! LOL seriously though, since you guys are in El Centro you guys are right in the heart of all of these amazing places that have amazing food. It might not be Authentic Yucatecen food, but brother...... you already know they can cook! Try out Mercado 60 or Casa Dominga both are new hip and awesome! Also try La Negrita for more authentic Mexican cuisine and this is a place that people from all over Merida come out too. "they close around 10pm but open early for lunch. So GO HERE! also try Parque Santa Ana. and try the street food vendors. Also tonight go to Paseo montejo and you can rent and ride a bike, you can also do that tomorrow. Also go to Helados Colon on paseo montejo for the best ice cream...... Um.... if you go out tonight go to the Mezcaleria lol i might even be there.... all depends on which senorita i go out with tonight! Anyways guys please feel free to hit me up for anything! I also have a channel or you can reach me through instagram if you guys need anything! Thanks again for making all these videos! You guys Rock!

    that pinkish buillding right in front of where you were walking 17:32 is actually a museum nobody ever talks about, and you can find at the first floor very interesting information of the haciendas era in the peninsula, really worth it, and also has some contemporary local painters, not always fascinating but sometimes they display very good stuff; oh and by the way, I strongly recommend you try the salbutes de relleno negro at the other mercado, ask where García Rejón is and eat there

    Unlike other Mexicans, Yucatecos know that most food must be served with the chile by the side, and not in the food, so everyone gets their own level of chile on it. Don't forget to taste High Cuisine Yucatan dishes like queso Relleno or lomitos de valladolid, wich is better on Restaurants than in Mercados.

    The panucho born from a tortilla that you open with a knife to make two layers of it, you put beans inside of that two layers and the you fried it for a little time in the oil, after that you put cochinita pibil on the panucho, yes sounds weird, who can imagine slicing a tortilla in the side of it thickness but is possible.

    I’m always shocked when Americans say they’re surprised Mexicans eat turkey lol. Do you realize that indigenous people have been eating turkey since before the Europeans arrived? In fact, turkey meat was eaten in tacos and burritos before any other meat. Well, mostly the indigenous ate fruit and vegetables like corn, squash, tomato, and chili peppers in their tacos and burritos.

    • @kinetickennons
      @kinetickennons  5 років тому +2

      We have actually traveled to a lot of places around Mexico and haven’t seen turkey as a main meat dish-maybe we have been missing out! What other towns in Mexico have turkey as the main meat?!

    • @thee_calamity
      @thee_calamity 5 років тому

      Kinetic Kennons yes because it’s been phased out by the other meat selections. But the Southern part of Mexico, which has a high indigenous population, still tends to eat turkey and rabbit. Yucatán has a high indigenous population. Parts of Oaxaca still eat turkey and rabbit.

    • @kinetickennons
      @kinetickennons  5 років тому +4

      We were just trying to say that based on where we have been it's not common to find turkey on the menu. But we realize we have only seen less than half of the states in Mexico.
      Plus- Mexicans are Americans too 😜

    Cochinita was my Nonna's specialty. She had friends in Merida that sent her the spices to make it, which wasn't often, so when she announced she was making it, the whole family would show up to eat. Sadly, she was sooo particular about her cooking she didn't pass on her process and recipe! I miss her and her cooking so much.

    BOMBA! Ymmm....the panucho that Güerita described as a cross between a gordita and a tostada and the polcane that she ate, it reminds of the concept of eating your food and your plate, the plate being the gordita, polcane or panucho! As for the cochinita pibil, I must admit I knew nothing about this, I confused this with suckling pig that some mexicans serve for Christmas dinner, the image of seeing the piglet with an apple in its mouth isn't as enticing but these tacos of cochinita pibil, with the juice dripping as you bite it my dear Goyo,....and with the belly full of yummy comida yucateca, the agua fresca que my dear Gueríta bought, just the thing to cool down in the sweltering heat of se Mexico! As always you both are MUY CHIDOS! :)

    The local avocado on the Yucatan peninsula is called "Aguacate Mantequilla" (butter avocado) the taste, size and apearance is different even to the one commonlly exported to other countries but since it only is produced on the yucatan peninsula it is not general known.
    Also, most foods made on yucatan peninsula have as ingredient one orange that is also only used there, sour orange is that special orangy flavor on the food there.
    Side note, in some corners in the city blocks there are people that sell a couple of snacks (usually near oxxos, they stand there with a small glass box), Kibis and Piedras(stones, and not the ilegal ones); Kibis are football shapped snacks made of minced meat and crushed wheat usualy eaten with pickled cabbage and tomato sauce. Piedras is a small version of the polcanes you tried, usually served in ball games with pickled cabbage, tomato sauce and beer :P
    Side note 2; I've eaten Habanero sauce in yucatan peninsula and out of it... the hotness level is a different thing, somehow the ones produced in the yucatan peninsula are hotter than the ones produced outside. Some friends say it is the type or soil where it is produced.

    A Panucho is a Mexican food specialty from the Yucatán made with a refried tortilla that is stuffed with refried black beans and topped with chopped cabbage, pulled chicken or turkey, tomato, pickled red onion, avocado, and pickled jalapeño pepper.
