Couldn't find a proper, good quality video about these cars and you just uploaded this. Perfect timing, thanks for that. Keep up with your videos they are really good.
I've had mine over 3 years. It's a 2015 and the tax is 20 quid a year. It's pumaspeed stage 1 mapped to 230 bhp and when I took it to Wembley in February to see Eddie Howes class mags I was getting 58mpg. Mine is very modified.
@christopherhudson4134 nice one pal. Does it make a big difference? They do a 1r package now with induction hose and engine mount, did you bother with that or was it just the map?
I remember going in one years ago I wasn't too happy with the bucket seats. That wasn't the cars fault I was fat and wearing my fat jacket meant it was too tight to fit in haha. The car handled well
If you are thinking of getting one of these, do it.. its a great car, got mine a couple of months ago, its 6 years old but drives perfectly, loads of torque quick enough for me, love it, cheap tax, cheap insurance all good 👍
what milage did you go for? Im looking to get mine, anything to look out for? Did yours have good serivce history etc. Worried ill end up with a bad one. ALOT seem to have had signs of previous mods.
2016 (66) 81,000 miles, had service history up to about 65000, so i got full service done straight away. Been fine, it's stock, only visual changes I can see are the ST badges had been changed for different colour, sidewing badges added, K&N filter, don't think it's had stage 1as boost only goes ~75% on gauge, I understand that's an indicator, although I may be wrong. But had car 6 months, done 5000 miles and it's been great 🤞
@@garethlewis1006 i sent my back within the 2 weeks grace period. was slow af for 180bhp and has metal shaving in the fuel filter. i decided to buy a golf r instead.
Some day I'll get me one of dem. That said I'm happy with my 2013 cdti............................just passed me test @ 54yrs old ............just chillin.
This looks like so much fun but the lift off oversteer is extreme - could catch out the less experienced? Overall though this seems much more entertaining than most VAG products
@@JackT-ht2pg nah lad insurance screwed me over and charged me £8000 a year 😭 ended up getting a 2019 SEAT Ibiza FR instead, but it is still an option to replace that one tho
Had the ST-3 in stealth grey with all the bells and whistles for 8yrs since new and I love it. Absolutely no issues except 1 minor recall. That being said I did notice the fuel consumption was different after the recall but it maybe in my head. In 25 when the tax goes up from 20 per year to maybe 190 I’ll be upgrading to the mean green mk4.5 petrol. I’m not into pure speed but I do like a car the looks as good in as it does out.
@@Thuds593 the new petrol has the RS engine. Most are tuning it back up. Saying that, still a front wheel drive. As much as I can afford an RS3, M3 competition or M5 I’m more for what’s good for me and my family
What makes you think they’ll increase road tax from £20 to a whopping £190 genuin question ? As I’ve just brought a Ford Focus st-3 diesel estate today.
I have a focus zetec 1.6 tdci mk3 and even that is a hoot to drive. I prefer driving it to my wife's bmw 320d m sport f30 So the st tdci must be awesome to drive. Great review! You clearly loved it.
Coolant leaks from EGR and oil leaks from the high pressure fuel pump gasket are the main ones, effects most of these 2.0 tdci's. However the leaks are quite minor so no immediate urgency to get them done. Owners have been known to get the fuel pump leaks fixed only to reappear again in the not too distant future.
take both cars out on track and the petrol does not leave the diesel, If this was remapped up the the same as the petrol 250 hp, the diesel would out perform the petrol
Me too, I had a mk2 st, I've got a stage 3 mk3.5 diesel st from Pumaspeed now, 278hp and 580nm, had to drop back to stage 2 clutch went, but yes it's underwhelming
@@Hellndegenerates its the best of both worlds though mate. if your craving a fast car get a fast car. THis is a balance between both. Iv had the ST3 petrol 2018 then had an focus RS 2018. now im going to an ST3 diesel to be sensible. I hope it doesnt feel slow. WIll be getting it stage 2 mapped.
I'm 25 and commute 70 miles. It's ideal for me. 50mpg at 70, £20 a year tax and you can pick them up really cheap. Remapped stage 1 they will go from 185 to 240bhp.
It doesn't sound good. The sound that you got is artifical and is played through the speakers to mimic the petrol engine. The sound of an engine is typical diesel traktor sound. That's why petrol ST is way better option.
Had mine 4 1/2 yrs , hasn't missed a beat and still puts a smile on my face ... commute 350 miles a week

I agree midrange torque is more important than 0-60s in most situations that why I love diesels

Howay lad! Come on the Mags!! 🖤🤍
I've got a stage 3 from Pumaspeed, I've filled up and on the motorway got 64+ mpg, looking at 800 miles on a full tank.
Have you still got the car? I've just got one and looking at pumaspeed stage 1. Any issues after the map? Did you get any other mods or just the map
@@JackT-ht2pg yup still got it no issues apart from can't force a Regen so have to take it for a good run

Well done, one of the best review for that car. So much information that other channel doesn't give. Continue great work

Do it, I had one for 6 yrs and it was perfect. Never missed a beat once. broke me getting rid of it. Until I got a new JCW 😊
Im selling one now for a good price if your still interested
Did you end up getting one? I'm debating diesel or petrol. Don't do loads of miles but don't wanna be at the pumps constantly in the petrol.

This is my hot hatch dream car and it's so difficult to find a decent one with low mileage here in South Africa
That car is mapped look at the boost gage its going fully to 2 which only happens on a mapped st. It only goes to 2 3rds when stock. I have one btw
