      You are so right. We should just include a spinning wheel with all the reasons it could be and one with all the options for repair. Spin both to determine what we do. 🤣. Thank you watching

    Hello everyone! Thank you for watching. I wanted to post an update that as of August 24th, these codes have not returned!! We will stop back by and pin updates as time and miles add up.

    We're back at chasing codes on Dana's 2010 Subaru Forester this week. She loves her Forester so when something isn't right (and trust me, she knows it right away code or not), she's wanting to figure it out. Follow along this week to see how it goes and if this can possibly help if you also are having this codes pop. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks so much! Wife just bought a 2010 forester non turbo, and got odometer scammed. Odometer read 102k miles when she bought it, first oil change at jiffy lube tech says last reading was 230k in 2019… carfax found 3 more roll backs over the last 11 years so we’re thinking close to 500k. Been having hesitation and loss of power up any incline after overheating 3 days ago. Spent the weekend changing spark plugs, 02 sensor, oil change, cleaning throttle body, MAF, radiator flush(found some sediment but no milkshake). Gonna try this tomorrow after work and I’ll comment back if I get any improvement!

      Thanks for watching! Wow to that odometer scamming; I'm not sure how I would handle that news. These engines are pretty resilient as long as the maintenance is done (plus I suggest an oil pump replace with the timing belt). Let us know if cleaning the EGR valve helps, and get those head gaskets checked out if you haven't already!

    2006 sti po302. Swapped spark plug and ignition coil. Code came back. Next will be swap fuel injectors from cylinder 2 to 4. Next will be compression and leak down. Already did chemicals like seafoam, b12 etc. Last will be torch the car

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  9 місяців тому

      Hi Miriam, thanks for watching and I do really feel you with the last remark of torching the car! Chasing down these codes feels at times to be the very definition of insanity! I had many people suggest a compression and leak down test on my Forester, and had I kept the car after replacing the heads (my codes were due to slipping exhaust valve guides) and the codes came back I probably would have done them before throwing in the towel. You could also have the fuel injectors tested and cleaned if you could stand to not have the car for a few weeks, and then you'd know for certain if the fuel injectors are to blame. Hope you find your sti's demon and exorcise it appropriately; take care and stay safe!

      Hi Chalie Teufel, thanks for watching! This was actually the first time I had cleaned any EGR, but it was certainly easy! I learned more about engines and various workings owning that Forester than I have any other vehicle. The EJ was certainly easy to work on, no matter how many times I cursed it for needing work or maintenance. Take care and happy cleaning!

    I know that you eventually found the issue to be the exhaust valves; however, I would suggest that if anyone feels the need to mess with the EGR valve, you might as well also remove and inspect the EGR tube. if there is a ton of carbon in the valve, it is also likely in the tube. this is the big tube thing that is next to the EGR valve.

    Hello folks! As of September 15, my codes have returned.... It was a nice 2 months without misfire codes, so up next on the Forester we will be pulling the fuel injectors and sending them off for servicing at a local shop (who also takes mail-in!). Sometimes, the fix is easy, and other times you just have to chase the code!

    • @Tijke
      @Tijke 3 роки тому +1

      I'm currently on the same path as you except I've done injector cleaning and rebuilding. Cylinder 1 Injector was leaking due to cracked seal/gasket. After a week, the misfire (and stall when hot) is back. I've replaced and cleaned EGR and am considering EGR delete test that theory.

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  3 роки тому +1

      @@Tijke thanks for watching and the input! Our Forester seems to be fine when hot, but the code happens upon idle while warming up or when coming to a stop and the engine isn't a full 190°-212° F. I have been thinking of replacing or checking the fuel filter as well since last week. We will just keep chasing the code... When we are fully stuck, I think it will be time for a full smoke test or perform a compression test (which hasn't been done since the short block swap) to rule those out entirely.

      @Michael Wojcik this is excellent advice for chasing down the cause of these misfire codes!!! I'd already done 2/3's of it before we ended up getting a suggestion to check the exhaust valve guides, and that appears to be the cause. They work themselves out and in over time after being remanufactured like mine where when I did my shortblock replacement in 2018. Unfortunately the only way to resolve that issue is with new heads, but it is super easy to diagnose (see our new video for this)

      @Michael Wojcik for my catalytic converter/exhaust manifold, I just paid the price at my local dealership. I have heard great things from subarupartsforyou, and would have ordered my short block from them had my dealer-at-the-time not offered me a discount. For used parts, I always trust the you-pull-it junkyards, especially since you can be your own judge on if it's a solid piece or not.

    Hi, I have a Subaru Liberty (Legacy) 2.5L NA 2009 (gen 4) in Australia. Just seeing that you have a pretty cool spark coil wires. May I know which brand use have and also do they fit for vehicles in Australia? Thank you.

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  2 роки тому

      Hi Captain Cookie (love the name!), thanks for watching and noticing those wires! I picked up a set of NGK brand at some point while I was chasing these codes, and while they didn't fix the codes, they do look very pretty and matched the spark plugs nicely. I'd like to say you should be able to pick up the same set, as my understanding is the Australian model you have still is the EJ253 that I had in my USDM Forester. The brand is very common in the states for Japanese manufacturers. Hope you find them!

      Hi Victor, thanks for asking! I used regular Seafoam to soak the EGR valve. You could use carburetor cleaner, but Seafoam was recommended to me by a Subaru Forester group and doesn't come in a spray bottle making it easier to pour in and let soak.

      Hi Amir, thanks for watching and the very relevant and valid question! It did help the codes, temporarily, but ultimately and quite unfortunately our Forester needed new heads. We pinned an update to the code chasing journey with a link to our video on the visual diagnosis of slipping exhaust valve guide pins to the comment list here. I have a 2012 forester and couple times a week I get a misfire on all cylinders. Can someone help please?

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Yuriy, thanks watching and asking! The 2012 Forester does have a different engine than my old 2010. The FB engines do require different maintenance for optimal performance. Air, spark, and fuel are all required, so diagnosis of the misfire problem can take time. If you've already checked all the air intakes and exhaust outs, move on to spark and wires, then onto the fuel system; in my experience this is the most cost effective order for self-diagnosis. I wish I could be more help, but we just are not familiar with the FB engine.

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  Рік тому

      Hi Alejandro, thanks for watching! An EGR delete would certainly take care of the need to clean it out. I definitely wanted to keep the Forester as stock as possible, so cleaning was an easy solution for me. A soda can is certainly cheaper than the kits I've seen for sale online; we'd love to see pictures if you fabricate your own! Take care & stay safe!

      Hi Demar Mckenley, it did resolve the code for a few months... unfortunately for us, the code came back and our technician at our local Subaru dealership suggested that we check out the exhaust valve guides in the heads. Thanks for watching! My codes have returned as well. Since I have chased as much as I can with electric and airflow, I'll be looking at fuel related items next. The injectors have the full 196k miles on them, so we will be pulling those when we have the shop space to have them cleaned/inspected/refurbished to try to save some money ($20-30/each versus $130/each). I will also be looking into the fuel filters, which are also original.
