The password for 8X300 on Filthy Treatise is “signetics” No quotes obviously. It’s a 2 minute audio file that I cannot make much out. Like so wendigoon can see!
“You’re as much a part of this now as the rest of us” Insane theory but what if now Wendigoon is a plant for the ARG and he’s just playing 4 dimensional chess
It would be great; I mean, Nick Nocturne got roped into one himself with Jack Torrence, so this isn't unheard of, though that was more just him being the central player in the ARG rather than a plant
Some of us live more in our dreams than in reality. I had roast beef with my grandparents last night. Sometimes I begin to wonder which side is reality
Small thing I found might be interesting: When the word Ellis is shown with the Rat King, it might be a callback to the fact that Ellis is living inside of the walls, since that is what rats usually do.
I was thinking this too! And that he’s trying to find holes in the walls of the house to observe people as well as holes to “cross over”. And he’s actually a smaller, insignificant being to whatever is watching him.
This concept is horrifying the more you think about it. Similar to how your own brain can create the most personally terrifying things for you to hallucinate, a ghost of yourself from the future would know your nightmares and remember what was actually effective. That and the implication that you are going to die in a way that makes you unable to pass on.
@@QuintessentialWalrus great recommendation. That movie legitimately messed with me and being a lifelong, diehard, completely desensitized horror nerd that is quite the achievement and endorsement
Want to throw out my crazy theory here: Ellis discovered what he thought was the afterlife and tried to "cross over", but wound up stuck in a timeloop. There are 2 Ellis' because one version of him is living these events for the second time (at least). As a result of these loops, time is beginning to decay, the same way a VHS tape wears out every time it's replayed, and the proof of that is in the mold.
The two Ellis could be like Fiona and ghost Fiona. One is living life currently but since he's going to be stuck in the timeloop in the future, another version of him is stuck in the timeloop. And he's trying to not make him stuck in the timeloop. So basically, what Wendi said but instead of death, it's timeloop.
The fact that someone was so pissed at Ellis they made a high effort video calling him a rat and he uploaded it to the official archives channel is so funny to me
Just a tip: when trying to find a specific frame, you can pause the video around where you need to be and use the "," and "." keys to go backwards or forwards by one frame, respectively.
"You're as much a part of this now as the rest of us." Is so incredibly haunting, and to hear it from the mouth of the beast itself? Absolutely chilling.
i’m shocked to see no one mentioning this, but i feel like there’s a connection between ceiling fans and the concept of hypnogogia. If you’re lying on your back in bed and trying to fall asleep and maybe having some difficulty, you might find yourself staring at the spinning fan above you. just a thought
It could be, I remember trying to sleep and suddenly I would feel like there's something wrong, later I would start to spin around, like under a ceiling fan
He’s also doing this as a full time job now, and I’m sure it’s financially worth his time to have frequent uploads. Sometimes having drive and something to work on gives a person purpose. He seems like a hard working and smart guy, so he prob passionately and diligently works on things out of a good work ethic.
The password for the site is "signetics" (without quotes obviously). The Signetics 8x300 is a microprocessor from the late 1970's which might or might not be important to the story. It takes you to a weird audio file. Edit: this might be the biggest stretch I’ve ever made, but the video with the dudes in suits reminds me a lot of computer engineers from back in the day who would always dress like that.
So update: it looks like the HA story is over. They released a final video and new text files on Halloween and looks like the story is done. Now there's new merch that supposedly add to it. But doing some research I found that the HA is part of a larger project by the creator Nicholas Sequeira. Also, the Filthy Treatise does tie in to both this and the larger project. Worth having a look through....
I hope this is all part of something bigger, cause the HA UA-cam channel itself only has a few thousand views per video and it’d be a shame if that was as far as this project went even after a wendigoon feature with a million views
It should probably be noted that the "Don't Look at the Fan" is possibly in reference to how ceiling fans are often associated with the supernatural. Specifically, it is believed that ghosts and spirits are many times often sighted at these points specifically. Which there is actually, to my understanding, some scientific basis for that, as it isn't uncommon for fans to cause hallucinations if certain conditions are met. In fact, in many cases, these are diagnosed as "hypnogogic hallucinations". I'd be surprised if that wasn't related. Perhaps these fans act as the actual gateways in this ARG?
it's because of the movement of the blades and usually the light that is attached to it? Doesn't it create some animation effect or something? I don't remember the names though. But yeah, if you add this with supernatural things, I can see it happening.
At 7:00, that weird tan drip next to the “mold” is actually calcium deposits from the constant dripping water within the underpass. I maintain a couple of these at work and they have the same thing. Think of Stalactites but for calcitic water.
In like a month Wendigoon went from being some random guy who was recommended to me to one of my favorite UA-camrs full stop. Incredible content at an incredibly fast pace; easily the best UA-camr for anything creepy, spooky, or disturbing. Kudos to this man for all his hard work; it pays off.
If you like him, I highly, highly recommend you also check out another UA-cam named “Shrouded Hand”. This dude doesn’t hold back, he presents some of the most captivating and disturbing content I’ve ever seen someone cover on UA-cam. And I watch lots of stuff like this
Truth. He has been working his ass off, and he also seems incredibly passionate about the stuff he talks about. Love his channel. Him and Max Derrat are 2 of my favorite youtubers in a long, long time. Never thought I'd like learning about history and religion so much, little did I know, all of my favorite games, books, movies, are based on it.
Another theory i have is that Ellis is actually just the archivist. And what actually is going on is that Phil succeeded in stopping Fiona. This caused a paradox. Or got Phil punished. Or lost between worlds. Fiona potentually too. Ellis isnt tampering with the videos. Its Phil, and maybe Fiona, from wherever they are. And Ellis has cracked their code. And now that the reality of existance has been opened up to him, hes horrably paranoid and scared.
@@2stral it's okay lol I had the same reaction bc I went to the comments as soon as the video started. I do it as a habit so I know if there will be anything too scary for me in the video 😂
After watching part 1 last night, I made a throw-away comment on one of the videos on the Hypnagogic Archive channel and actually got a response from Ellis himself. So here is that response if anyone's interested but can't be bothered finding it themselves. "Thanks for reaching out! Here at the Hypnagogic Archive, we like to think of ourselves as "your source of temporal ephemera since 1996". We've been going strong, picking up steam, and we've been featured in several news outlets, such as the Auraria Star. We depend on the support of generous benefactors such as yourself to prolong our mission in perpetuity. Thank you for your support! -Ellis Chief Preservation Officer"
I looked up the Auraria Star out of curiosity on both Google and UA-cam and got nothing. However, there is some good information on this. So I’m guessing that the archive started in 1996? And as some extra information, Auraria is a neighborhood located in Denver, Colorado. So make of that what you will.
this is extra scary for me bc I have narcolepsy and as a result, I have hypnagogic hallucinations. I'll probably have some related to this and be terrified. it's easy to confuse them with reality bc there are elements of where you are actually at in the moment. it's weird. I often have to ask my husband if an event took place bc at times they are mundane. like I once had to ask him if we pulled the chicken out of the freezer and he had no clue what I was talking about. unfortunately, they are usually really scary.
Ooooh you should totally start a blog documenting these experiences I would totally read it Maybe it could even be therapeutic for you I've never heard of such a thing but I imagine it being similar to sleep paralysis nightmares which (mine at least) are fckn terrifying 😳 Maybe there is a medication you can take like prazosin, my husband takes his for his night terrors and sleep apnea
@@lexi_b6169yooo narcolepsy triplets. Same issues here. Hypnagogic hallucinations have been an issue for me in the past. As well as the whole time skip thing. Very interesting (and unsettling) to see this stuff reflected in a horror series.
oddly nice to see someone experiencing same thing. i don't have narcolepsy, but sometimes experience hypnagogic hallucinations. when they are benign and so mundane i question my reality. well, i used to. now i just don't care enough if i.e. i really heard someone outside screaming poems on the top of their lungs or had a midnight snack and conversation with a houseplant 😅
I did a little digging and I found that the most recent HypnoFest took place near Woodhaven, MI, which probably means it had a zip code of 48183. The one near Melrose, NM ten years prior almost definitely had a zip code of 88124 if I understand correctly. if you arrange both in numerical order, 2009- 88421 2019-88431 I found it interesting that the codes seemed to add one to their total for each year passed when ordered numerically, as well as the number on the end of each original code going up by one. Not sure if this has been found already, or if it’s of any use, but Ellis said the tradition was random locations and it just didn’t seem so random to me. Anyways thanks for reading random viewer (and if ur wendigoon ily
Incredibly clever, well done on digging that up; it might be confirmation bias that you found the correlation, but I really hope you're onto something here.
You know that makes a lot of sense. I was over here trying to figure out the reason they chose Melrose, a completely unremarkable dairy town 20 minutes out from my town in the middle of butt fuck nowhere
@@en3677 actually, in one of the newer stories on the text files section that wasn’t in wendigoon’s last video, Melrose is directly mentioned. The story is “Oxide of the void” If you wanted to read it, but in short it talks about a girl named Marlene who was from melrose and ran away to join a commune somewhere nearby. Without getting too into spoiler territory, it talks about the commune starting an “archive” in order to try and meet “angels” they know exist, which seems like an exact description of the archive today? The story takes place in 1967 too, which was a date from one of the videos, the one wendi mentioned might have been when everything began. Also, there’s a creature mentioned in the oxide story that I believe to be one of “the others,” and I think one of the other newer stories, “the persecuted accountants,” gives more context for what these “other” things are. Just some thoughts
I literally JUST got done with part 1 so I’m absolutely PSYCHED that I don’t have to wait for part 2. Thanks wendigoon! I love your content and I’m so glad I found your channel!
That bit with not looking at rotating ceiling fans hit me like a train. I used to have really bad night terrors as a child. Shadowy figures strangling me, usually causing me to wake up in the middle of an asthma attack. Before the bad parts started id notice black wispy things and particals floating around my ceiling fan. Maybe its a common thing to see during sleep paralysis, kinda like how the hat man is.
I can’t give a concrete example like you, but as soon as I heard that rotating ceiling fan thing, it weirded me out, bc it’s the last thing I see before sleep.
90% sure the fan is referring to the circles user. When a fan is turned on at high speeds, it creates two circles - the middle connector and the blurred outer blades. This would also tie into the woman with the flower face, as the blades could translate to petals. I'm also very sure that the flower faced woman was Ellis' predesscor, who has been transformed - either her transcendance, her figuring it out or doing so to possibly punish those other members is the scandal. It also wouldn't be a far reach to say that the flower/fan are actually a representation of a maw, with the middle being the throat and the out circle being the fangs. There's an interesting parallel to Ellis and the archive, and the story of the cinema owner and their collection. I think this flower woman is Ellis' Joyce. Absolutely fascinating wrapping my head around the themes of transcending the linear of time in the forms of ghost and recordings. A photo, a film, a book, a review and a taxidermy are all things created for those in the future and many creators hope that our works will still be around even after our own end. They capture people, feelings and moments that can exist after their own death and going to a museum or watching an old film may be the closest many of us get to seeing a ghost. There's also the meta of it all in the form that this ARG is an ARCHIVE of those captures. I've got a lot of other vague thoughts in my head about this but I've rambled enough. Thank you to anyone who reads this and thank you to Wendigoon for bringng another fascinating ARG to our attention and speculation
WAIT A SECOND. You mentioned that a photo, film, taxidermy are all things created for the future right? And these things ended up killing people, right? Is this implying that the future ensures death, so by trying to keep the past alive, it’s an attempt to run from our demise?
I love the meta possibility that someone has created a rabbit hole conspiracy throughout the web, and wendigoon finding it, has become a part of the story following the bread trail
I'm so glad channels like yours exist. this stuff is so interesting to me but i just do not have the attention span that it would take to figure all this out. my ADHD thanks you for your service
The “You’re as much a part of this now as the rest of us” really stood out to me, and started a theory of mine about all this. Something you’ve pointed out is people who pretend to be distant from the ARG but are actually related to it, and it could be world building, but I think it could be an integral part of the story A major theme is one of “crossing over”, going from one world to another, whether it’s a dream world or some odd mold room you can’t escape. But what if this sort of world is attempting to connect itself to reality, making itself real and distancing from fiction. It’s difficult to tell what’s real and what’s fake with most videos, and the same can be said for the people who tend to comment about the archive. But as we question the validity of these peoples and videos, they are no longer pure fiction, but things that can reach out to us, talk to us, connect to us. It can explain the odd messages by Ellis, as time works odd in a different and fictional world, resulting in him repeating himself or perhaps even talking to himself as seen in the 4chan post. And perhaps maybe those others are us. We’re examining Ellis so we can know more about him, looking through the videos and each and every post he makes, commenting and debating on it, no matter how crazy it may seem. All the effort each and every person puts in to this just adds another person to this ARG that connects worlds, and similar to the email, you are as much a part to discovering, explaining and expanding upon the story as the rest of them. It doesn’t explain anything within the story, but I just feel it fits the ARG well. Thoughts?
I love how they're blending reality and fiction. Like putting clues in a guestbook anyone can add to and having characters create real 4-chan threads. Makes it all feel that much more surreal.
So it just hit me that the way Ellis talks about the mysterious death of the old Vice President immediately made me think of the security guard who died from the heron and that no one knew what to make of her death. I'm not sure if the two are related somehow but that's the first thing that immediately jumped out at me upon reading the email.
While I'll literally never intentionally or directly consume an ARG, I'll also never miss an opportunity to hear Wendigoon explain one in way too much detail. Keep it up buddy.
The scenes of hypnotizing are actually from the movie "The Incredibly Strange Creatures That Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies" and the only reason I know this is because I've watched it on Mystery Science Theater 3000 more than I'd like to admit 😂
My theory is, Ellis met his future self/ghost. Like Fiona. But unlike Fiona, he had a lengthy conversation with it, and is trying to stop himself from becoming his future self/ghost. And also unlike Fiona. Ellis succeeded. And now he has an outstanding dept to the universe. Or the universe is trying to fix the paradox he caused by being successful.
37:46 "Хаос" means "chaos" in Belarusian and Russian. In case it's in any way relevant. Also I had no idea this arg existed until Wendigoon started uploading. Makes you wonder how many really great arg's out there aren't getting the attention they deserve.
Ellis is also associated with some chaos magic circles, so there may be a connection there. This has a strong 90's era choas magick/occultist vibe to it
The mold can also be the soapy substance that is all over the washrooms making them filthy (in the rest stop archive post) I haven't finished the entire video yet and I don't know if Wendigoon mentions this in his video but I have to comment this right now because I cannot hold a train of thought for that long.
Yes, slime mold is definitely an option here. I don‘t know what it smells like, but it is, well, slimy and be mistaken for soap, especially at night in poor lighting. Fun fact: Slime mold is a single cell. That awful thing covering an entire wall? A single cell. Turns out nature is plenty creepy on its own.
@R D not really how slime molds work irl. They are one cell, and they are very cool. But would (probably) not grow to cover a whole wall. Also cool about them, they are not a fungus, a plant, or an animal. They're a protist!
22:14 now hold up a second. Whatever comes next relates to the med trial story from part one. My reasoning for this goes like this. In part one, when reading out the advertisement for the trial run, the students who are “on the verge of a breakthrough” are from “UM”, and in the description of the video at the timestamp, the phrase “Go Blue!” is used. To any person not located in the Midwest USA, you may not see the correlation, but the “UM” is the abbreviation for the University of Michigan. A rallying cry/saying of UM fans/attendees is “Go blue!”
"To preserve and chronicle the past through any means necessary" "the very best of what was" "every frame captured on film is available to the general public" What if... the mission goal of the archives is some kind of preservative immortality? Like the tape, living on as an Other/ghost through records of works made by yourself and others. So, the terrible thing that Ellis did might be that, at some point, he (or perhaps one of him, if the multiple Ellis theory bears out) starts *experimenting* with a way to reliably preserve someone as an Other (crossing to the other side) through a piece of Internet media. The entire ARG may be a plot to ensure that Ellis becomes an Other and becomes a quasi-immortal being unshackled from time, or even so that they can develop a reliable method of making someone an Other. After all, while we know that the Archive has a mission goal that's different from their stated one, we still don't know exactly what that goal is.
A note on translation: the google translate app lets you hold your camera up to text to translate things. Even if you don’t want to use google translate, it’s still incredibly useful to be able to grab the characters in text format and copy+paste them into whatever translator you want.
I love horror, but it always makes me scared. so thank you for doing all the heavy lifting, your humor helps make it a lot less scary too. we appreciate your amazing videos and hard work! - Big fan
Crazy Idea: what if Ellis "keeping the past alive by any means necessary" is because he did in fact see himself as a ghost and wanted to prevent whatever event caused his death, but he ALSO wants to keep anything that his ghost tampered with because his ghost would effectively not have existed in the first place.
Usually I’m all good with ARGs but something about this one gives me the absolute creeps… like Mandela catalogue, in the dark home alone sure thing, but I have had to turn this one off multiple times just because it makes the hair in the back of my neck stand up. Anyone else? Great content as always :)
Personally i find gemini home entertainment more creepy, because you have no weapon against the woodcrawlers or gardeners, but i get what you mean, fear and uneasiness are both bitches
Me too, but for me it's because I've been consuming too much horror content the past few weeks. The more I consume a certain genre of content, the more it affects me. Horror? Ooh it's fun to what if there's someone in the room with me/ outside my window. Fantasy? Ooh nice worldbuilding to I wish I lived in a world where magic and monsters were real. True crime? Ooh fascinating to what if I'm kidnapped/stalked/murdered. It's fun.
Some day he will end up like Mel Gibson's character in Conspiracy Theory: hunted down for 'exposing' a real conspiracy, but without knowing which of his thousands is the real one...
These videos are so great that even the ad reads are entertaining. You can tell he’s really putting in work and making them interesting instead of the same monotone script word for word. I love you Wendigoon
Hydration challenge: drink a cup of water every time Wendigoon says "Hypnogogic Archives" I personally like to imagine this man's passion for exploring ARGs got so many people hooked on, this author/authors decided to bait and bamboozle Wendigoon into being a part of this ARG. Awesome
@@abbie_joan both two of the best in their style of content. Found Inside a Mind years ago with the Cloverfield stuff he did and then got HOOKED on this content and Wendigoon was a perfect find as well. Gotta love them both for sure.
@@ivangonzalez5720 true they both make amazing content I like Inside A Mind for his deep dive lore videos and Wendigoon is super entertaining and educated in how he presents content
I think that the subtext under the title at the beginning says “Your source of temporal ephemera since 1998?” The question mark placement would be intriguing if that’s what that is.
The story of seeing yourself as a ghost kind of reminds me of lake mungo, where the character who died saw her ghost and tried to prevent it from happening but reached a conclusion that she can't and prepared for it kinda
I've gone back and forth for years trying to decide if I think thay movie is good or not, and came to the conclusion that either way, it's definitely memorable.
Here’s my theory: If you recall the genetic improvement or whatever it was called text file they mention a research team that wound up dissappearing after they gave the narrator a pill and the narrator starts losing track of time and such. Maybe this research team was connected to the archive and were trying to figure out a way to contact the dead? The time displacement experience by the narrator could connect to the fact that ghosts are confirmed to ignore the laws of time and always exist. We also never figure out what happens to the narrator of that story. It just seems too much of a loose thread to not mean anything to the overall story.
it's amazing how much effort is being put into something that gets so little recognition. i love seeing things that are truly passion projects instead of cash grabs which sadly we are so used to seeing.
I have a feeling Wendigoon is actually IN on this ARG and he is building up to something that will be part of the ARG itself through his own videos that will eventually be IN the archive and make it seem more real.
@@Jamief1585 That's what makes ARGs so interesting, they make it multiple layers deep and interwoven stories and very easy for them to make it go as deep as they choose to go depending on the effort they put into creating it. Dont have to go all cynical and call it bull as if we believe its actually real lmao
Whenever I see an ARG with this amount of effort put in, I always pray that they won't run out of steam halfway through and are able to stick the landing! So many good ARGs have died out from being too complex for the game master(s) to run. I genuinely hope this one has a whole secret team running it bc that'll up the chances of us eventually getting a full story arc!
I just thought it was make-up or something. I know certain big UA-camrs like Markiplier and stuff do make-up to look nice for the camera when they make videos. Maybe Wendigoon is doing that?
"We must eat" became one of the scariest quotes I've ever heard last night. I was watching this video, and stopped part way through, because it was like 230 in the morning, and I had to go to sleep. I put my phone on the charger away from me, and got into bed. It was at this time when I heard The Almighty Wendigoon say the words "We must eat". My heart stopped then luckily my brain caught up, and I realized I had it play on my smart watch. SO congrats to Wendigoon for giving me my 2nd biggest You Tube scare of my life.
I cannot tell if this is just the ARG getting in my head or not, but there’s a netflix series that was released this year called Archive 81 and these two feel UNCOMFORTABLY similar. With an obligatory spoiler alert, here’s the breakdown. The story of Archive 81 is about Dan, a film archivist who picks up a job working for a mysterious man. Tasked with restoring old vhs tapes that belonged to Melody, dan pretty quickly finds out that there’s way more than just video tapes he’s working with. he starts having waking dreams (during a hypnogogic state????) of melody, as well as another more malevolent entity. first of all, the similarities between plot structure is insane. In the archives there’s a (maybe?) positive female ghost who exists throughout time, as well as an evil entity. When papa wendigoon said how he loves this ARG for how it really gets you making subconscious connections vs purely logical connections. That really got me thinking. In the show there’s a whole cult working behind the scenes that deals with hypnosis type stuff and one of their biggest things of huge significance is the MOLD that grows in the basement of the apartment building. There’s also stuff about witches so maybe i’m reaching but who knows
One of the reasons this ARG catches my eye (besides the fact that the writing and everything is so good lol) is because the idea of ghosts being bound to one place unaffected by time reminds me of a theory I've only read about once or twice: that ghosts are kind of like an after-image, like a memory that keeps playing, if that makes any sense? It's an idea that's always stuck with me but I've never seen it explored outside of wherever I originally read it from.
That's called a residual haunting. Ghosts that walk through walls are said to do so because there was a door there when they were alive. Theyll do things they did often in real life, just going through the motions
this might sound dumb but watching videos like these where you explain and go into theories about these cool ARGs and series give me motivation to write and i’ve been having a lot of block lately so thank you
Not dumb at all! I do the same thing. Good luck with your writing! The process can be so frustrating, but I have no doubts that in time you will produce something really great 🤗🤗
Hey man, thank you for doing these videos, I always discover such cool new stuff through your channel. I'm blind IRL and your coverage of things like Gemini Home Entertainment, the Mandela Catalogues, and obviously, this is really interesting for me, since I can't appreciate video series otherwise! Just wanted to say thanks and throw praise, you're doing awesome
18:00 Fun fact: those scenes come from the movie The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies. I only know this because it was on a episode of MST3k.
I love how I find you off of the forbidden app we don't talk about and you've just blown up from there. You are awesome and create such fun long content. Keep yourself save and thank you for all the amazing fun!
It's my birthday today, and listening to a new wendigoon series (and after, the older ones) is the best way I can think to end it. Thank you for the amazing work you do and being such a comforting presence!
So glad you're doing this. When your first Hypnagogic Archive video dropped, I went to read the stories myself but as I got to the videos, I couldn't get invested in them at all. But that's fine as mr. Wendigoon is doing it for me!
I do think that there is more layers to the "Don't Look Up at the Fan" video, but I think that in connection to Ellis bringing it up in the email to you, maybe the warning about not looking up at the fan has to do with the sort of hypnotic influence fans can have when staring at them. The pace of a fan on low is similar to the pace of the swirling spiral imagery used in one of the videos. Perhaps this hypnosis, putting you into an altered hypnagogic like state makes you more susceptible (or is maybe even a first step) to being influenced or taken over by the entities hiding within the artifacts of the archive, like in the Joyce short story.
i was just about to comment about this! i feel like all the hypnosis and spiral/spinning imagery must be related to it. self hypnosis with a ceiling fan is a real thing, and similar things like baby mobiles have a hypnotic effect helping us to sleep
This ARG gives me such old school vibes, which I find funny. Like obviously it's a website logging old school internet stuff, but also the way it interacts with the community and how it's presented just gives me the vibe of those old ARGs from the early 2010s era. Really good stuff
There is just something incredibly unnerving about this whole series. It somehow feels so much more _real_ than similar shows like The Mandela Catalogue.
Okay I have the beginnings of a theory: - We know that spirits/ghosts/"others" can possess and alter media - We know that the Archive had a recent change in management and the previous management has a bad reputation - We know that Ellis is trying to collect information from a specific time period - nothing before the 1980s and nothing later than 2010 - We know that spirits/ghosts/"others" are not bound by time - We are pretty sure that some of the media collected by the archive has been affected by spirits/ghosts/"others" or edited directly by Ellis So what if Ellis is trying to collect all this old media because it's been possessed by the spirits/ghosts/"others" of the previous management of the Archive? There are a lot of themes of being trapped in an in-between space, so what if Ellis has devised some sort of plan to 'trap' the spirits/ghosts/"others" of the Archive's previous management, and they're aware of this plot and are actively trying to stop him? This may explain why it appears as though there is more than one person acting under Ellis' name - perhaps they're using their ability to interact with and alter media to try and sabotage him? It would certainly explain the discrepancy between how he talks about the old VP in two starkly different tones - what if the second one was actually posted by her? Side note: What if the movie theater in the Joyce story was actually an early form of the Archive? The creator mentioned having a lot of old, strange, macabre media...what if the theater owner and Joyce were somehow involved in founding what became the Archive as we know it today?
WOW. I am seriously impressed by this ARG. I feel like it’s an attempt at cosmic horror in the medium of analog style ARG, especially the anthology series. It kinda reminds me of The King in Yellow. People always complain about the King in Yellow not making sense after the fourth story, because the obvious connection of “the King in Yellow” being mentioned goes away and what’s left is something akin to literary Impressionism. Where you’re meant to draw connections based on theme and symbolism. This, added to the fact that there’s poetry scattered in there, really drives home the point I think Wendigoon was trying to make with the “four exits”. I think there’s probably even more ethereal connections like this in this ARG if you keep digging around
Interesting, the old owner's name is Chloe and in "An Exercise In Futility", a random poster named "ChlO" starts chatting with the only other 2 users online who do not recognize her username and say that only employees should have access to post. It's an interesting read with a lot of clues that coincide with different stories on the site! 👀
As soon as wendigoon mentioned that there was spies everywhere, and that he was semi related to the story, I took to the comments to look for a response from the archives or Elise. I don't know what I was expecting....
Love the giddy energy; I totally vibe with that on anything that exemplifies and embodies their theme, namesake, genre, and what have you. There are few things that can make their audience/followers actively recreate the exact experience it identifies itself with. A very simple analogy is how reading the _Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows_ blog's definition of the neologism, "sonder", evokes the thought, and therefore the emotion, in the reader that the writer sought to put into writing as one of the few abstruse yet shared human experiences. It's also hilarious how "Ellis" has possibly written you, if not other random commenters, into the narrative while you're attempting to share the ARG with a wider audience. I truly hope our Wendigoon has been canonized as an interactive character in another favorite analog horror series. ^-^
The "rat king" part is very interesting to me, because "rat king" is another nickname for Satan. Ellis's name showing over it is possibly a direct confrontation by someone directed towards Ellis, or maybe a direct reference by "Ellis" to who he actually is.
My take on your "Ellis did a bad" and "There are two instances of Ellis" theories: He grew a clone of himself, made sure the clone crosses over, and stuffed the body in the fridge. Now there's angry Ellis clone haunting the videos. There was a brief mention of cloning in the first video you made but I have nothing else to support that theory, except that is what I'd do if I saw my own ghost and didn't want to become one.
I remember when I first found this channel, it was somewhere in the 20-50k subscriber range, I still can't believe how far wendigoon has come in this short amount of time. Keep up the great work.

I was literally just thinking this, imagine if the entirety of this channel is one massive ARG (a large stretch Ik)

Some of us live more in our dreams than in reality. I had roast beef with my grandparents last night. Sometimes I begin to wonder which side is reality
Yea that’s crazy
Small thing I found might be interesting: When the word Ellis is shown with the Rat King, it might be a callback to the fact that Ellis is living inside of the walls, since that is what rats usually do.
I was gonna mention that as well!!
I was thinking this too! And that he’s trying to find holes in the walls of the house to observe people as well as holes to “cross over”. And he’s actually a smaller, insignificant being to whatever is watching him.

The idea of being haunted by your own ghost is such a unique and fascinating concept
Watch the movie Lake Mungo if you like that concept! If I told you anymore, I might spoil something ;)
This concept is horrifying the more you think about it. Similar to how your own brain can create the most personally terrifying things for you to hallucinate, a ghost of yourself from the future would know your nightmares and remember what was actually effective.
That and the implication that you are going to die in a way that makes you unable to pass on.
Oh man you'd love The Haunting of Hill House
A surprisingly old horror trope. I've read pulps from the 20s and 30s with that premise and I'm sure it's older than that even.
@@QuintessentialWalrus great recommendation. That movie legitimately messed with me and being a lifelong, diehard, completely desensitized horror nerd that is quite the achievement and endorsement
Want to throw out my crazy theory here:
Ellis discovered what he thought was the afterlife and tried to "cross over", but wound up stuck in a timeloop.
I was thinking maybe Ellis is already dead, and is trying to cross from the afterlife to our world, the opposite of what "the others" may have done
This is the craziest and coolest thing I’ve ever heard!
The line "We're dedicated to keeping the past alive by any means necessary!" on their website hits different knowing about the ghosts and the "others"

But doing some research I found that the HA is part of a larger project by the creator Nicholas Sequeira. Also, the Filthy Treatise does tie in to both this and the larger project. Worth having a look through....

Perhaps these fans act as the actual gateways in this ARG?
it does seem like the fans are related with that email
it's because of the movement of the blades and usually the light that is attached to it? Doesn't it create some animation effect or something? I don't remember the names though. But yeah, if you add this with supernatural things, I can see it happening.

I did a little digging and I found that the most recent HypnoFest took place near Woodhaven, MI, which probably means it had a zip code of 48183. The one near Melrose, NM ten years prior almost definitely had a zip code of 88124 if I understand correctly. if you arrange both in numerical order,
2009- 88421
2019-88431
I found it interesting that the codes seemed to add one to their total for each year passed when ordered numerically, as well as the number on the end of each original code going up by one.

The “You’re as much a part of this now as the rest of us” really stood out to me, and started a theory of mine about all this. Something you’ve pointed out is people who pretend to be distant from the ARG but are actually related to it, and it could be world building, but I think it could be an integral part of the story
A major theme is one of “crossing over”, going from one world to another, whether it’s a dream world or some odd mold room you can’t escape.
Thoughts?
you give major spy energy, ellis put you up to this, didn’t he
I love how they're blending reality and fiction. Like putting clues in a guestbook anyone can add to and having characters create real 4-chan threads. Makes it all feel that much more surreal.
Only issue is when stuff doesn't kick off... and people don't find certain clues the Creators intended you to find

A rallying cry/saying of UM fans/attendees is “Go blue!”
babe wake up! Wendigoon posted another movie length breakdown about a niche internet series that I've never heard of! Lets watch it anyways!
"To preserve and chronicle the past through any means necessary"
"the very best of what was"
"every frame captured on film is available to the general public"
What if... the mission goal of the archives is some kind of preservative immortality?
Even if you don’t want to use google translate, it’s still incredibly useful to be able to grab the characters in text format and copy+paste them into whatever translator you want.
the picture mode works better than live translate

Also, this one is scary, and funny too in a way.
I was doing fine, until the last part when Wendi said he himself was contacted. Then it got somewhat more personal.
Nah, just you.
Not so much for me. But might be a side effect of how much creepy content across the internet I've consumed over my life
Personally i find gemini home entertainment more creepy, because you have no weapon against the woodcrawlers or gardeners, but i get what you mean, fear and uneasiness are both bitches
It's fun.
Imagine if everything on the Archive is actually real and Wendi uncovered some dark shit thinking it was all an ARG
Some day he will end up like Mel Gibson's character in Conspiracy Theory: hunted down for 'exposing' a real conspiracy, but without knowing which of his thousands is the real one...
Some day a real human trafficking conspiracy is gonna get unearthed and people will go "oh, its just another arg" and ignore it
Imagine if this was all real, but Wendi is part of it and wants us to believe it is an ARG
I want a part 3 for Christmas!!! I can't do puzzles to save my life but now I'm hooked. I love your videos. Keep up the amazing work dad!!
I love how you say "thank you for watching" at the beginning and not the end. Makes it feels like it means something.
"Don't look at the ceiling fan"
Me watching this in bed with a fan directly above my head: Well it's been a good run y'all
dude i IMMEDIATELY TURNED MINE OFF
Rip o7
Final Destination type beat
Yep. I looked at it too like “HA, I SPITE YOU!”
the real question: does a box fan duct taped to the ceiling count
These videos are so great that even the ad reads are entertaining. You can tell he’s really putting in work and making them interesting instead of the same monotone script word for word. I love you Wendigoon
this dude is the only person whos ad reads i dont skip
Hydration challenge: drink a cup of water every time Wendigoon says "Hypnogogic Archives"
I personally like to imagine this man's passion for exploring ARGs got so many people hooked on, this author/authors decided to bait and bamboozle Wendigoon into being a part of this ARG. Awesome
Wendigoon and Inside A Mind are the ones that got me hooked on this kind of content
@@abbie_joan Same here! Their content is just so good
I'm really hyped for another Hypnogogic Archive video!
I think that the subtext under the title at the beginning says “Your source of temporal ephemera since 1998?” The question mark placement would be intriguing if that’s what that is.
I came here to post the same thing! Spot on my guy
The story of seeing yourself as a ghost kind of reminds me of lake mungo, where the character who died saw her ghost and tried to prevent it from happening but reached a conclusion that she can't and prepared for it kinda
Oh dear don’t remind me of that
I've gone back and forth for years trying to decide if I think thay movie is good or not, and came to the conclusion that either way, it's definitely memorable.
It just seems too much of a loose thread to not mean anything to the overall story.
it's amazing how much effort is being put into something that gets so little recognition. i love seeing things that are truly passion projects instead of cash grabs which sadly we are so used to seeing.
...wasn’t planning on it, but I guess I’m now spending my Saturday afternoon watching Wendigoon lol
Yo it's the animator!
as you should
I have a feeling Wendigoon is actually IN on this ARG and he is building up to something that will be part of the ARG itself through his own videos that will eventually be IN the archive and make it seem more real.
No, that would mean that this bull goes another level deeper….
I did find it suspicious how much black screen space there was at the end of the video... is there something hidden in the music? Or the video length?
@@Jamief1585it's extremely obvious that these are all purely fiction.
@@ArtsyKnox25 ._. Yeah Ik…
Whenever I see an ARG with this amount of effort put in, I always pray that they won't run out of steam halfway through and are able to stick the landing! So many good ARGs have died out from being too complex for the game master(s) to run. I genuinely hope this one has a whole secret team running it bc that'll up the chances of us eventually getting a full story arc!
does wendigoon use filters or is his skin really that smooth? he looks like he has a skin routine! Looks great.
seems like a filter to me honestly but he is still hot
I thought I was the only one that noticed lmao
@@smartalimka yeah i still think he has nice skin in general, haha!
I just thought it was make-up or something. I know certain big UA-camrs like Markiplier and stuff do make-up to look nice for the camera when they make videos. Maybe Wendigoon is doing that?
Or maybe it's just the lighting mixed with his mildly adequate camera.
What was your first?
I too must know the first.
Archive 81 was the first thing I thought of when the mold was mentioned too
Since the last vídeo i been with this show on my miiiind!!
What if this arg is advertisement for this show? Dumb idea I know but it's an odd coincidence
too bad netflix cancelled this show 8(
@@rvnvs6592 oh no :(
One of the reasons this ARG catches my eye (besides the fact that the writing and everything is so good lol) is because the idea of ghosts being bound to one place unaffected by time reminds me of a theory I've only read about once or twice: that ghosts are kind of like an after-image, like a memory that keeps playing, if that makes any sense? It's an idea that's always stuck with me but I've never seen it explored outside of wherever I originally read it from.
I believe that concept was portrayed in the 1970s English television play "The Stone Tape" by Nigel Kneale. I don't know if he originated the concept.
There’s also a amazing movie called A Ghost Story that explores that concept too
@@EgonSupreme oooh interesting interesting, I'll have to look that up later
@@jamesmccabe7919 hmm, gotta check that out later
That's called a residual haunting. Ghosts that walk through walls are said to do so because there was a door there when they were alive. Theyll do things they did often in real life, just going through the motions
“I can’t wait to jump in” it’s been 8 months!!! We need part 3 😢
this might sound dumb but watching videos like these where you explain and go into theories about these cool ARGs and series give me motivation to write and i’ve been having a lot of block lately so thank you
Not dumb at all!
Now just need a part 2 for the Monument Mythos I enjoyed your first video on it so much
18:00 Fun fact: those scenes come from the movie The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies. I only know this because it was on a episode of MST3k.
Sounds about right

Dude, as one of the first solvers of this ARG, I just wanted to say thank you for giving this ARG so much more exposure.
I remember seeing you in the first few comments, glad to see you here as well
@@Wendigoon yeah I was so excited when I saw you covered this ARG, it’s such an obscure web series I thought I was one of the only people aware of it
@@Wendigoon HOLY Mother of Keys
Nightmare key I am such a big fan of you and Wendigoon content. Will you make a content on this ARG too?
@@NightmareKeys I love your videos
@@Wendigoon I love your vidoes two
So glad you're doing this.
Thats exactly what I was thinking!
Isn't there an artist who was obsessed with spirals and thought they represented death
Okay I have the beginnings of a theory:
- We know that spirits/ghosts/"others" can possess and alter media
- We know that the Archive had a recent change in management and the previous management has a bad reputation
- We know that Ellis is trying to collect information from a specific time period - nothing before the 1980s and nothing later than 2010
- We know that spirits/ghosts/"others" are not bound by time
- We are pretty sure that some of the media collected by the archive has been affected by spirits/ghosts/"others" or edited directly by Ellis
So what if Ellis is trying to collect all this old media because it's been possessed by the spirits/ghosts/"others" of the previous management of the Archive?
Sounds like a great theory! Thanks for sharing
Dying at the fact that Wendigoon is now part of the Archives canon. Love your videos!
please make a part three when you get the time i am absolutely obsessed with this arg now and i love your channel keep up the amazing videos :)
Didn't expect this so soon! Love your theorycrafting so much!
@YeaMan if you were better than wendigoon you wouldn't have 39 subscribers
@YeaMan tell Paige she can keep her heat
Interesting, the old owner's name is Chloe and in "An Exercise In Futility", a random poster named "ChlO" starts chatting with the only other 2 users online who do not recognize her username and say that only employees should have access to post. It's an interesting read with a lot of clues that coincide with different stories on the site! 👀
You know that would be an interesting connection
As soon as wendigoon mentioned that there was spies everywhere, and that he was semi related to the story, I took to the comments to look for a response from the archives or Elise. I don't know what I was expecting....
My guy Wendigoon got so good at covering this type of content that now he's become part of one. That's fuckin sick
Rat king is a name for satan?
@@brazilian_oak maybe it's something to do with the bubonic plague?
Theo Von lol
sorry but where did you hear that rat king is a name for satan? is it something in a different language because i cant find it online
Hey so I don't know if this has been said before but the term "gusano" translates to worm in spanish. It's been used to mean traitor before.
😳😮
it means "The Worms"
My take on your "Ellis did a bad" and "There are two instances of Ellis" theories:
He grew a clone of himself, made sure the clone crosses over, and stuffed the body in the fridge.
