Georgia Brown is the name of the absolute angel of a social worker responsible for bringing to light the horrific crimes committed against the children and was an important contributor to getting Roch thrown in prison. She later committed suicide after being unable to live with the horrors she witnessed throughout her investigation. Never forget her name. Georgia Brown.
Gabrielle came to our school and explained to us without edit how he cut her arm. She was extremely clear and direct with her words. I can still see her pacing quietly on stage, a grave matter of factly voice. I was 16 yo her story stayed with me every since.
@@737215 It was almost 20 years ago... But I remember the way she explained that it was a "rusted knife" and that the worst part was the bone. brrr its gives me shivers just to think about it. She explained how she was constantly exhausted, the work was brutal and often - pointless. I'm pretty sure she wrote a book that would be available in english.
@Rynnie Yes! To warn about cults. She also pointed out some examples of people that are being preyed upon and redflags. For instance, they take lonely people, or people in vulnerable situations, they can asking to cut your existing relationships, they can ask you to surrender your finance to them etc... In the end its all about the gang mindset...
When I was a senior in high school they took us on a field trip... to the state penitentiary. We visited with 3 of the inmates there. The first one warned us about the dangers of using. He blamed marijuana for his crimes and would not accept responsibility for his actions. He was there for cutting his girlfriend's head off and driving through 3 states with it in the passenger seat. The second inmate warned us that the actions of others could also affect you, even if you don't know anything about it. He was there because his friend decided to rob a gas station and kill the clerk without even telling him what he had done while he sat outside in the car. The third inmate warned us that we should never do anything to end up in prison because no matter how big or strong you are, there's way too many people there who aren't your friends, and if they want to do something to you there's nothing you can do to stop it. He was there because he had sexually abused a child and he had been raped by other men many, many times after he got there.
I love how it seems to be a common occurrence that those who harm children are extremely hated by literal murderers. Even they know that there is no more heinous crime than hurting a child.
That's why serial killers become so infamous and get away with so many crimes. It takes a special kind of fucked up to hurt a child, and most serial killers harmed at least one child even if their main targets aren't children. Even Jeffrey Dahmer, someone who was motivated by a twisted sense of love and not inherently by hate or anger, harmed at least one child. That's why he was killed in jail.
As someone from Quebec, I was told that story as a cautionary tale about how even someone as strong as Gabrielle Lavallée can fall victim to cult tactics. It was told to me as her survival story, not the one of that power hungry bastard. I'm glad that her courage is being remembered over his vileness.
@@jea7362she’s doing an amazing job doing it. Just recently she visited several high schools in the province sharing her story to hs students. What our generation needs :)
I really like you humanizing the victims. So often victims of cults are portrayed as gullible people when they're usually no different from everyone else. It only helps the formation of cults because many victims don't even question it because "they're too smart to enter a cult" or "they know better"
@@ultraguy14 Yeah, have fun being ignorant and hope you don't get unlucky. People like you are the exact sort of people that generally find themselves in cults or scams, as in the people who view themselves as "intelligent" or the others as "gullible and stupid" are often the easiest prey. This is precisely one of the things MLMs take advantage of as well, so don't think it's just fringe cult groups that entrap people like you.
@harry Johnson Dude, everyone in a cult or something similar will view other cults as stupid. Just because you used to see stupid cults doesn't make you immune and honestly makes it sound like you're in something cult-like yourself. Everyone relies on something, whether that is objects, others, or themselves. If you don't realize your needs that makes you pretty susceptible... You're also pretty wrong about me as if that had anything to do with what I said
@harry Johnsonthe target demograph of cults are literally the weak....people who are lost and have no direction in life cuz its easier to manipulate them and give them something to believe into....they don't target the privileged imo
One of the survivors of the Jonestown massacre made the salient point that nobody joins a "cult": People join churches, or people join a political group or a social movement. They believe in something beyond themselves, a larger goal, and it makes sense that it would take more than one person to accomplish such goals. The goal will then shift over time, as a group becomes more insular. It can end up being a world away from the group or the cause which initially drew in members, but, by then, it may be too late to leave.
some people are just sick. and some people will just stand there and let it happen because of this pacifist mindset. its not about beliefs its about instincts
I don't exactly agree with the idea of vigilante murder, but considering Matthew's circumstance (as in he had nothing to lose), that was probably the most selfless thing he could have done.
@@barbararab6390 i thought the same at first, but apparently the dude was in prison for stabbing a cab driver 19 times because "he thought Bryce was running up the cab fare." so maybe he should have just gotten a more comfortable cell or something.
I actually met Gabrielle Lavallée about a decade ago when I was in secondary school. She was doing talks about her life with the cult to sensitize us about the dangers of cults and how effective cult leaders can be. The fact that this woman still lives on and has the strength to be open about those atrocities is commendable. I will never forget how after the talk, I came to her and talked about how I could relate to her early life (she had a very tough childhood, and at the time she was recruited, she had done many things that left her mentally vulnerable, which is the type of people cult leaders love to prey on the most), and how her story opened my eyes to how easily I could have be dragged into something similar at the time. She gave me a long hug, and thanked me... She's an incredibly kind lady, and I hope she's still doing well. Also PS: You forgot a VERY important thing about Roc; he referred to himself, and forced his own followers, to call him "Moise", the French name for Moses. He really took the messenger of God thing to the next level.
Wish I could meet her, she sounds like an absolute badass. She got her arm CHAINSAWED OFF and still tried again! And succeeded! She's a hero in my eyes
Matthew Gerrard MacDonald. Never forget that name. He killed Roch and went straight to the guards and gave them the shiv and said to them “That piece of shit is down on the range”. He was already serving a life sentence for a previous murder he committed and was given another life sentence for Roch’s death. A man with nothing to lose can be a scary thing to evil and a blessing for the good folk.
I'm against remembering and spreading the names of murderers, as to not give them the gratification they seek via recognition for their atrocities, but this man deserves to be remembered. While he may have committed a horrid act beforehand, he was given a chance to make the world a better place and he took it.
@@cypherusuh if anything he's just going to be put to the bottom of the list as it's a new crime? Some judges probably appreciate people like him. Mad dogs, while tragic, are seldom redeemed. They stay ravid, and only death will cure their madness. I am not referring to actual dogs.
I know this sounds bad, but it's better off being dead than living life with destroyed mangled genitals. imagine being a man who can't even be love... imagine all the complications...
Abuse rarely starts with the physical abuse. It starts by emotionally wearing you down until you believe abuse is "normal". This guy was seriously twisted. Gross. I feel for the people who endured his abuse.
You mean the people who stood by and not only allowed this disgusting crap to happen, but actively participated in it? Yeah I really feel sorry for them 🙄... but you know who I actually feel sorry for? The victims. The victims being the only innocent members in this sick cult, the children. The children are the only ones who should be called victims, everyone else should be rotting away in a prison cell.
@@TimeForDunston Don't get me wrong, I don't see these people as victims, but you can't disregard the psychological manipulation they go through to get to that point. Some of them could probably still see the wrong, but got involved to a point when it was too late and a cult leader (usually intelligent) can quickly realize this and put more control over them. Remember also rebellion means death if you don't have the majority on your side. Anyway, I wouldn't go as far as to just say throw them all in jail. A court wouldn't either.
@@TimeForDunston i dont think you understand how abuse works. my little sister and i both grew up in the same abusive environment, we are both victims, but there have been times where she would deliberately do things to hurt me or make my abuser hurt me. when youve been that thoroughly brainwashed by someone you just become a tool for them and it feels like doing their bidding and being cruel to other victims is the only way to have a little bit of control and make the abuser happy so they dont turn on you. same thing goes for bullying victims who turn into bullies as a means to regain control. the only person who benefits from this is the abuser at the top. even the people in the cult who committed acts of cruelty for the leader were victims. they were all victims. they have to live with that guilt. them being adults has very little to do with it, adults are not immune to brainwashing and abuse. its insane how much empathy you seem to lack
I feel like everyone misunderstands Macdonald. He didn't kill the cult leader because he thought what he did was horrible. But because he wouldn't shut up about it. He basically killed dude for being annoying. Not for being evil.
I mean, unless you have some sort of evidence to prove that, you're just making an assumption. He did called the guy a "piece of shit" so he might have also thought the guy was fucking evil as well as annoying. If he did kill Roch just because he thought of him as annoying, that works for me too. At least he ended him. People like Roch are why people still support the death penalty to this day.
@@ABeardedSage evidence like what mofo want me to produce a signed affidavit it's literally why it happened. Roche was an equally dangerous psycho killer and one of the first things he said when handing the shiv to the gaurd was the guy wouldn't shut up
He just wanted peace & quiet. Was that too much to ask for? But noooooo....some full-of-himself jerk yammering on daily about his sex-capades and the abuse he inflicted on others. I bet Matthew (my son's name) was triggered when Ol' Roque started bragging about mutilating that baby's peschadeel and killing the man with special needs and having 20 kids and getting conjugal visits. Probably sent him right over the edge, the idea that Roque was going to be up for parole in a few months...He shanked that joker and didn't feel an ounce of remorse.
If I recall correctly from reading Gabrielle's book many years ago, Roch stabbed her hand on a table and left her there for hours. He decided to "amputate" when he realised it was getting infected, but he didn't use a chainsaw, he used a carpet knife, and (I think), an axe to break the bone.
@@xXJLNINJAXx In the 1800s amputation was done with a similar instrument that was used to sever nerves by slashing the area at a full 360 degrees and then a bone saw would be employed to finish the amputation.
Gabrielle's hometown is the same as mine and she often goes to schools to talk about her experiences in a cult and how someone ends up joining and staying in one despite the abuse. She's an incredible woman with a immense sense of humour!
I would love to hear her story from HER. What she lived is unspeakable, but it's great that she can help educate others from the trauma she went through. I hope she's doing well ☺️
I read L' alliance de la brebis years ago and it's a wonderfull book but some chapter are hard to read beacause of all the abuse depicted in it, but it gives a good idea on how much of a monster Roch Térieault was. She truly is a hero in her own right. The strength to survive and come out to try preventing it, preemptively saving others. How she didn't lose her mind, but come out of it as an inspiration is incredible. Bless her.
I read Gabrielle Lavallée's biography, titled "L'Alliance de la Brebis", and I have to say it's the single most upsetting, horrifying, gut-wrenching thing I've ever come across. To this very day, I'm still traumatized by some of the things I've read in that book. The memory of those events still haunt and sicken me to a degree I can't quite describe, and I remain baffled by the fact that Gabrielle somehow survived what has been done to her. Something that isn't mentioned in this video is that she was left on the cold wooden floor of the very same room she was amputated in as the other members later went to bed, and she spent the whole night there, crying and bleeding, with her severed arm lying a mere few feet away from her. She described it as being almost an out-of-body experience for how surreal it was, to just see her own limb on its own like that and discarded in a dirty corner like some piece of junk. Before that, other tortures included her being lifted up by the ankles and dropped on her head repeatedly until she passed out, left outside naked in the harsh winter cold for nearly an hour, beaten up by all the members at once, thrown from a balcony and dragged back up only to be thrown again, and sexually assaulted by Roch countless times. ...I'm just gonna say it: the fact that she lived to tell the tale is a miracle.
@@stoleneyez I checked, but couldn't find an English title. This might explain why this story is not as broadly known as it should be, because it's easily the most nightmarish testimony I've ever read. Like nothing even comes close to it, and I've heard and seen a lot of things.
There's a class they make you take at most women's shelters with a whole packet dedicated to identifying manipulative &/ narcissistic relationships. I think EVERYONE should take that course. In fact I'm going to find my packet to upload.
The frog senario only applies to frogs that were lobotomized, actually, unlobotomized frogs jump out. This is important to know because it's not just "bringing up the heat slowly" that gets these kind of abusive cults get going. Roke already had "lobotomized" his victims by tricking and charming them into befriending him before he invited them to the "boiling pot" of the cult.
it’s really weird that human brain - even when showed otherwise - can still think that somebody can’t do any wrong just because they’re attractive or charming. it’s kinda scary how many serial killer stories have this premise.
I really respect how you handle the subjects you do without acting all mystical voodoo or horror nightmare on us. You just talk about stuff that’s interesting like a normal guy, and we appreciate it. Much love
Solange went through just pure torture. He removed a portion of her intestines and shoved everything back in. She would have been in agony and also leaking fecal matter into her abdomen causing complete sepsis. The only thing to be grateful for is she died on her own before he attempted anymore “surgeries “
The "frog in the water" thing isn't actually true- a frog will jump out of the water when it gets too hot. The original experiment was conducted using frogs that were lobotomized, which is why they didn't behave normally. It's a useful analogy though, which is why we use it even if it's not actually true.
And not to be too dark, but frogs won't actually jump out of boiling water either, because as soon as they hit the water, their legs won't work because damage is done too quick.
Yet in case of humans, when pushed slightly by authority, religious, parental, mentor and love interest figures, they will stay in the water as it begins to boil. One might even say humans nowadays are mentally lobotomized via propaganda, pop culture, peer pressure, social and work groups and the general need to avoid ostracism.
One name that deserves to be brought up alongside Gabrielle's is Georgia Brown. She was a social worker who spent years making surprise visit after surprise visit, carefully documenting everything that happened, to get the children away from Roch. She passed away in 2015 after taking her own life.

@@constantk8780 That’s quite a naive view. Good here implies a moral imperative, making it universal not subjective. Everyone is corruptable, indeed this is taught in the some of the most ancient human wisdom we have access to. This wisdom is extrapolated into Catholicism for example, in the form of Lucifer (once one of the best angels in heaven) who became corrupted by the desire for greater power. Even the most noble people can become corrupted, but nothing is corrupt in the beginning. Only through the depravity of an environment or being deprived of certain virtues can lead to corruption.

I feel the creepy music and dumb voice makes it cheesy and less real and in the context of these videos it’s far more creepy because it’s stated as matter fact

I was in a cult and the way you described how they form is fantastic. We were kicked out of our church and started meeting separately. The man in charge started off quoting and teaching from the Bible in a manner that was very Christian. Over time, he incorporated his own opinions and drifted away from the Bible. He would stay involved with the members on an individual level and when people were in a vulnerable situation (mental health struggles, family issues, relationship problems), he made himself available as a confidant. He took advantage of people’s vulnerability at every opportunity. He made it seem like the world would persecute us by twisting the Gospel, so we could only rely on each other. The manipulation, absurd ideas, and offering the solution to every problem formulates gradually. It’s not preachers on the side of the road screaming at passerby. It’s people who offer themselves as someone to confide in and assist vulnerable persons. The only reason I realized I was in a cult was because I was listening to a podcast about cults and recognizing traits of what they were describing in my “church.” It’s important that people know what to look for so they don’t fall into the schemes of people looking for power.
The frog in the boiling water is an analogy, it’s not professed as how to cook a frog it’s professed as how people can get used to things (no matter good or bad) if your surroundings change slowly.
Late response, but I only just discovered this channel. There was a real experiment done with putting a live frog in boiling water, except there's one part that's frequently ignored: most of the frog's brain was removed beforehand. This became popularized as proof that the brain somehow houses a part of the soul, then it was "rewritten" (lied about) to not mention the brain removal part as proof that animals don't have a sense of logic (even though they do, it just happens to be in that thing that was removed in the experiment) and if you somehow bypass an animal's reflexes then they're basically inanimate. Now it has basically been "rewritten" many times by people trying to prove increasingly insane points until it somehow got attached to the originally unrelated idea of cognitive dissonance. Which, while it's nice that it teaches people about a real thing for once, sucks when people try to disprove cognitive dissonance by attacking this originally unrelated and bad experiment.
Dang, that "frog in a pot of water" analogy really reminded me of abusive relationships, especially one I had. At certain points you would absolutely let someone rip out your intestines. You really don't realize how bad it is until it's finally over, whether it be in life or in death.
Back in 2008 I was 1 year free from an abusive situation, I was listening to music at work and a “mix tape” a friend made had a recording of Vincent Price explaining how to boil a frog. I had to go hide in the bathroom for ten minutes to compose myself. Since then I have become hyperaware of escalating behavior.

I'm currently reading Gabrielle Lavallee's (the cult member who had her arm amputated by Roch) book and although I am very used to gruesome true crime stories, this is a really hard one to get through. Roch makes Manson look like a choir boy. Edit: She's the mother of the 2 month old baby who died but it's doubtful she did it on purpose. Edit 2: the guy who was castrated was actually operated on . Edit 3: Gabrielle 's arm was amputated by a curved carpet knife, not a chainsaw. This is all from Gabrielle Lavallee's book and she actually came to speak at my high school. I guess a lot is lost in translation.
So why did she leave her child outside?? It's still torture no matter what was used carpet knife or chainsaw, operated on or castrated. I'm also pretty sure that the two year old child didn't give a shit either I don't think a lot was lost in translation.
Man... leave Charlie alone... There's literally nothing but hearsay that says he did anything at all other than cut that one dudes ear with a sword. I get it, he's an easy target, but he still didn't really do anything that anybody can actually prove, and he was given an illegal trial without retrial, so legally if you want to be technical, Charlie Manson committed no crimes of which he was detained for, cuz he was never given the ability to speak for himself during his trial. They already had the guilty plea ready when they started cuffing people up off the street. Charlie was convicted and sentenced by the court of public opinion. And public opinion was guided by the media because they needed a scape goat Boogeyman to cash in on. Picture the whole thing without charlie, it wouldn't be very controversial and money-making if some hippies coming down off acid were the murderers. After maybe about a year, it would be old news. Matthew MacDonald is probably also a terrible person given that he's on a life sentence as well, but he did at least one good thing. But Gabriella is 100% a hero.
Yeah, there is no question. But it goes to show you there are degrees of evil and depravity. There is a guy who maybe choked his girlfriend to death and is filth, but then there is cutting out a conscious woman's intensines, filling it up with air and then make men who think they are helping a healer resurrect a woman.. use the seed of man while knowing yourself it isn't going to do a thing, is just on some other level I couldn't even begin to comprehend.
@@-xphobia It almost doesn't sound real, like if it was in a movie you would either laugh or turn it off. But the fact that it's true is horrifying on an almost unthinkable level.

Kio Bio my guy, idk if you're just being the average edgy troll or just have a shit day/life, but i simply found it strange to just laugh at something serious like that-- just seems like a tad insensitive and bizarre response to an actual dead person, there's really not much to cry about here?? Just honest confusion on my part. And seriously I don't get what's with certain people responding to any criticism with "go cry about it", like its become a mf comment cliche lmao.
The part of the woman having a stomach ache made me sick. This is the first time I've ever feel so nauseous about something I heard. Just thinking about it makes me wanna vomit. Poor woman, I really hope she's in a better place now. Rest in peace.
Bro I actually met Gabriella like 7 years ago while I was in high school she came in to talk to us about her experiences since we learned about the cult in religion class, she's incredible man
The movie Midsommar made a great job of letting you experience sympathy with a cult. A good study of how this suble manipulation works to the point that we as the audience sympathize with a crazy cult.
I wonder if they had made the main character a man who was given the choice to kill a cheating girlfriend whether the audience would be able to sympathize with him in that decision. I doubt that people would be as willing to emphasize then.
@@greywolf7577 i mean, i don't think it would've been that way. The story is set-up for you to sympathize with Dani, because you see what led her to kill her ahole boyfriend. Not saying murder is justified, but if told in the way the movie did, you're bound to be swayed by it. It would've been exactly the same if the movie had a male character, because you'd see him experience the death and murder of his family, the inattentiveness of his gf, the way another woman would start caring for him and ultimately you'd sympathize with the cult nevertheless, and you'd justify the murder of his gf. The point of the whole movie is not to prove gender influenced bias lmao. Is to prove how easily you can be manipulated by a cult of you're in a bad time mentally. I think your take was purposefully misleading just so you could make it about gender and not the actual main topic: cults.
As someone who watches dark and disturbing videos, this one always makes me sick to my stomach. It’s scary to say the least just what some people are capable of doing while getting others to join along.
As someone that has been around heavy abusers, i can honestly tell you that more people are capable of this evil than you would think. You would be surprised at how many people around you will learn to live with that evil.
Absolutely. It personally angers me when people say the world is mostly a good place. No. The first world is mostly a comfortable place. Where people put on their happy faces in broad daylight and the same nice old farmer you see every day during your gas station shift abuses his grand daughter behind closed doors. That or people's lives are going too comfortably to unleash the hell they otherwise would on the world. A person in uncomfortable circumstances does bad things easier. I grew up in the trailer dwelling white trash junkie world. Things happen in those trailers that would end up a wendigoon video if it came out. We may come from different things but people like us have seen the true face of humanity. I believe humans are capable of choosing morality, I myself do often, but I cannot pretend the world is anything but a bunch of ugly people mostly pretending to be upright who would do the kinds of evil they say they wouldn't if their comfort weren't kept up. And like you say, it's surprising how many are willing to put up with the evil when it is present.
@@godwarrior3403 If that were true, society wouldn't exist. People are typically moral, because the fact of the matter is if most people weren't, then the civilization that we know and live in simply would have never come to be. There is no doubt some evil shit, and it may be pervasive in a number of areas/regions, but it's by no means the rule. I don't think the world is a good place either, but misanthropy just never sat right because it plain and simply isn't logically sound.
the "frog in water concept" is just a metaphor (or used as an example of sorites paradox when discussing philosphy) you can't cook actually a frog like that they have a thing called critical thermal maximum which makes them respond with sporadic random movements if they start to get too hot.
True. The original experiment which spawned the legend used a frog which has its brain destroyed with a needle prior to placing it in the water. I believe the experiment was to study how the autonomic nervous system (responsible for unconscious response to stimuli) responds to changes in temperature, but I can't remember for certain.

Cult leaders also remove responsiblity from themselves and place that on to the victim. You convince the victim that it's their fault they suffer and they will be willing to punish themselves and thank the leader for pushing them to "grow".

@Rynnie Yes! To warn about cults. She also pointed out some examples of people that are being preyed upon and redflags. @@hellzapoppinUp interesting 🤔 similar to narcissistic, controlling, abusive husbands i hear about examples in my work every single day. Terrible.

@harry Johnson Dude, everyone in a cult or something similar will view other cults as stupid. Just because you used to see stupid cults doesn't make you immune and honestly makes it sound like you're in something cult-like yourself.

I could be wrong here, but IIRC it was an experiment done in the 1800s that also involved removing the frog's brain first.
It also seems unnecessarily cruel

But a hippie "cult leader" with "magical powers" or "followers who are under mind control". Smh.. Charlie had what we now cal a "trap house". Living on the street is hard. Being a throw away is hard, there's a high chance that yall wouldn't understand what that's like.

@@padarousou absolutely! i think people often think of these as exactly that; stories
@@godwarrior3403 such a good point!
Dang, I actually thought that was a real thing. It’s a good metaphor though
@@azelfie1041 Yea I thought it was real as well but I had looked it up on one of those "I can't sleep so I'll google random things" type of nights.
True. The original experiment which spawned the legend used a frog which has its brain destroyed with a needle prior to placing it in the water. I believe the experiment was to study how the autonomic nervous system (responsible for unconscious response to stimuli) responds to changes in temperature, but I can't remember for certain.
Thank christ, that analogy sounded absolutely horrific. It made me pretty upset.

Another comment chain says he stabbed a taxi driver 19 times. I don't know the details though.
Very *very* gruesome murder, he stabbed Danny Bryce, a taxi Driver, in the neck 19 times, for a fare he though was hiked up. So He wasn't a good person by any means, but a he did one last good deed I suppose.
Murder. He was in for murder.

But this does not mean he was bad guy

I’m from a town 20 minutes from Burnt River. Many of the kids who were removed from the cult were adopted by local families. I went to school with a bunch of them. Many of them didn’t know they were related.

Gabrielle Lavallée is one of the most badass people I think I've heard of.
I hate to hear what she had to go through, but she's an absolute legend.
My mother grew up in Burnt River, around the time that Roch and company were there. My grandmother still has an Ant Hill Kids maple syrup bottle - there was open knowledge of this cult in the area, but there was so little the community could do, being a very small community in Ontario.
Cool., my girl lives in burnt!, ive been around burnt river for the last 5 years even lived thier for a year and done a lot of research on the area its amazing up there. Does she still have the maple syrup bottle ??
I want to note that the slowly boiling frog thing only works on frogs that have had their brains removed. It's like a nerve thing. Intact frogs will jump out long before they're boiled. Also if you put a frog in already boiling water, it wont jump out cause it'll die pretty much instantly.
Cult leaders also remove responsiblity from themselves and place that on to the victim. You convince the victim that it's their fault they suffer and they will be willing to punish themselves and thank the leader for pushing them to "grow".
And there are people in these very comments that blame the victims for being manipulated...
@@lukebytes5366 people who think they're too smart to fall for a cult are prime for that very thing. It's much more insidious than most people realize and I get it can be hard to empathize with such extreme stuff. But we see the ending not the beginning.
@@ginnygin7141Let me say it like this, I feel horrible for the kids. The adults that willingly put themselves into this situation are absolutely partially to blame, not in a way that makes the leader any less of a monster. But I don't feel as bad, they willingly followed a stranger into a comune, it's not like this was the first cult or anything. It's sad what happened to them, but like when a worker dies doing something clearly unsafe or stupid I can't say I feel much "pitty".
@@vilecreature8640 it deeply saddened me that no one else but the leader was charged, especially considering they mothered his children while he was in jail.. i wish them and only them the worst.

it kind of astounds me how creatively twisted and sadistic he got with the torture methods. i've never actually wanted to barf from words alone until the stomachache story.
Same with woman who get “tricked” into the pimp game, ur giving all the money u make to some guy who offers “protection” BUY A GUN u ignorant hoe, ur making 5k a week yet getting told when to eat, “swim with sharks and ur gonna get bit” applies to every situation
I can legitimately say that out of all my years listening to what serial killers and cults and crap have done that this is, without a doubt, one of the most horrific I've come across.
have you heard of elan? its not neccerarily as horrific as this one, but its definitely fucking awful
The 'boiling frog' fact is actually a myth. The reason it is so persistent is because it works so well as an analogy.
It does work though...if you snip the frog's brain stem first. Otherwise the frog will just hop out when it gets uncomfortable.
@@joemontondo9113 dude
The reason it persists
Is because it works on people.
Does work with crabs, though
@@igitha..._ Whaaat, it's true. That's how the original experiment was done. It's just that people either don't know or leave that part of the experiment out for the sake of the analogy.
I grew up hearing about the stories of these cults in the 60's and 70's. I'd never really understood the mentality of cult, as no child should. But because we were exposed to knowing that they're out there, it was horrifying, but more so devastating to know that everybody struggles with putting in things in perspective, even parents.
Sincerely thanks, Wendigoon because without somebody telling the story, it's difficult to formulate what to tell our children, and I mean this!
