As a fellow doctor who has just been diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 35 this has come as a massive shock and I'm struggling to cope emotionally but I'm getting there, it's so relieving to find others in my profession who have been diagnosed.

@@andrie4384 You do realize that the channel's star "Dr. LeGrand" here is ADHD too? Also, there is Hallowel, he's ADHD, and... these people are just hyperfocusing on a subject they love. I am in a Peer Support Group for people with ADHD, apparently, there are Finance people, and many more in Law (because they love to talk, LOL), it' doesn't make you unable it just makes it harder. This is total perseverance, and patience. We aren't all graphic designers, or filmakers, or artists or writers. Etc.. I am guessing he is probably someone who didn't give up. BTW, Emergency Services, of any kind is something we really shine in. As soon as chaos hits, we become focused and able to do things. I am not EMS but one time a young man had a seizure and I got him on his side, so he wouldn't swallow his tongue while he was seizing. I instructed my friend to call 911, looked at his braclet, all without ever taking a First Aid (I watched TV). I just went into help mode. My friend was so shocked, she said "do you realize you kept calm and I was freaking and you did all the right things?" I had no idea what she was talking about, I found out I had ADHD 20 years later.

Please may you make the video title clear that you are ND (naturopathic) , not MD (Medical)?
I'm not at all minimising the story or the struggle you went through - it was clearly a lot of hard work to get where you are today and it's great to see fellow ADHD people succeed in their career.
But as a medical doctor myself, this was the first result on searching UA-cam for "doctor with ADHD" - looking for people with the same experience as mine during the medical degree and beyond, and I only realised you have a naturopathic qualification on checking the about tab.

I’m trying to get into medical school. I’m very thankful for adhd. I guess mine isn’t that bad anymore but it gives me perseveration or hyper focus on my passions so I can literally study medical knowledge all day and be happy to do it the next day.

In the past, I've experienced several physical and mental health issues. Then, a few months ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD, which gave me a sense of relief.
I am a third-year undergrad with aspirations of becoming a physician. Often times I experience periods where I feel like I am not making progress. I do well enough in my science classes, but I struggle to pass a simple History or Music class, despite having played the violin for 6 years in my childhood. Some topics are difficult for me to process or learn. These challenges sometimes discourage me from pursuing my dream of becoming a neurosurgeon.
I have many hobbies / interests, but my greatest passion is medicine. I strive to be a good person every day and am determined to become a doctor, regardless of the challenges 💪🏻
    Thanks for sharing this video!

Big love bud. Another doctor here with ADHD from Australia. It definitely is possible. One way it affected my study experience is that it generally takes me more repetitions of learning info for it to stick. Luckily though, what I can do well is marathon study. Another super power I feel is that I do love the creative ways and modalities in which I would have to learn, trying to use as many senses I could. It is doable for anyone wondering.
I’m now 5 years out of medical school and specialising in Psychiatry. Which is interesting because comprehending lots of information, holding it in your mind so you can connect abstract dots and then organising it into a succinct formulation is definitely a weakness of mine. But I’m slowly getting better I think. Main thing is that I loooove the work, sharing space with people and hearing their stories is such a gift.
As I progress, the looming realisation I have is that more and more I am and shall be organising other clinicians through oversight. Because I don’t retain information well, I often have to write very in depth notes so I can remind myself of someone’s story. As for my colleagues, I don’t know how they can just remember patients stories without having to reread the last note. My other weakness is organisation and structure. I am worried about once I am a consultant psychiatrist (I believe an attending in the US) where a lot of the work is overseeing other clinicians through over sight. I feel demoralised and feel I’ll never be able to be that organised. Any doctors with ADHD got advice for improving your organisation skills and speaking in a structured (than circumstantial) manner? Big love

I’m an academic teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area and I was diagnosed just last year with ADHD. As happy as I am with the diagnosis it’s definitely a healing process. It’s led me to go back and rethink situations that have happened even since early childhood. I can definitely start forgiving myself for awkward choices but also I have a deeper understanding. It’s been a rough year.

I’ve been crawling through a masters in psychotherapy, just finished… finished badly (late submissions for assignments). I only got my Dx over halfway through this course. Life has been particularly difficult over this time as well… and I’m facing a meeting today in which I am sure I will be told I won’t be passing after all. I’ve told so many people I was finishing (had my second placement and said goodbye to them with that in mind). I have been feeling as if I will never have the ability to be more independent in this work, to communicate consistently at work and with supervisors, and double check all the little details properly. I also worry that I’ll never be quick enough with clinical admin work and will never have the capacity to manage a case load as big as what is expected of most. I know it’s possible for some, my psychologist and my psychiatrist both have ADHD, and I’ve met other mental health professionals with it too. I’m sure there are many of us: most people who pursue this work have had their own trauma, and many of us who have developmental trauma have ADHD. I know we’re all different so comparing doesn’t make sense. Just got to figure this out. Thankfully I definitely have that stubborn persistence and passion.

I didn’t find out I had ADHD until I was 19 years old and it’s funny because I want to try community college. After I got my GED I think I was like 17 when I got it, I tried community college 18 turning 19 and I only passed psychology was like a good grade and shortly after leaving I found out I had ADHD and it’s just so funny because the Doctor Who diagnosed me or I should say Psychiatrist it took him five minutes he just looked at me and asked me “do you always put on with your fingers or pull the thread on your jeans and tap your foot and not look people in the eye when you’re having conversations?” Me: 🤷🏼‍♀️
I didn’t even know what ADHD/add was, I’m now on 25 and I am back in school. I realized how serious it actually.
RN I should have finished something on Monday that I am going to try to do before 1 o’clock when I have a meeting with my tutor for a final paper that should have been done already this week but of course it is not done yet...ugh

They want me to do a gi map gut test, adrenals and hormones test and an organics test for neurotransmitters and toxicities, also inflammation markers, I will do the test and if I end up needing amino acid therapy ill do it and do neurofeedback at the same time, they told me its a 6 month long therapy, do you think it will heal me in 6 months for good or does it only decrease symptoms for 6months while you are on the amino acids then adhd comes back when you are off the amino acids?
