I have a 2005 Interceptor and i love the thing. Like driving your couch. I put aftermarket swaybar bushings to take the "boat" out of it. It turns flat now. Rebuilt the tranny and upgraded the front end. It handles a lot better. Its not the fastest car by any means but will cruise 80mph plus with ease all day long. Had a '01 with 3:55 rear gear, the '05 has 3:27 which for me is better because i do a lot of Interstate driving. All in all for what i paid for it, you couldn't ask for a more dependable car. And at night...some people just ain't sure if I'm the man or not. So they will slow down until they know it ain't......its like a F-100 truck with a car body. Pretty tough.

P71's never had aluminum wheels they are steel wheels with center caps. The only difference at all between a civilian Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town car is the suspension. And the The P71 suspension is the Town Car suspension all Town Cars are technically police package cars except that the Town Car adds rear air suspension. The HPP "Handling and Performance Package" on the Crown Vic and Grand Maquis is an even better suspension than on the P71. There are no performance differences, no cop engine, no cop chip, or cop tune. 2003-11 P71's were rated at 250hp instead of 239hp but that is just a ECM programming change.

That's not quite true. They haven't been made since 2011 so one could say any of those cars left on the road are the last. The Panther platform which is 1979-2011 Crown Vic, and Grand Marquis, 1980 Lincoln Continental, 1981-2011 Lincoln Town Car, 1980-1983 Lincoln Mark VI, and the one year only 1981 Lincoln Town Coupe do not share a frame, or transmission with an F150. Early cars had the 5.0 "302" v8, with some Crown Vics having the 255. At one point a carbureted 351 was offered in canada. 1980-82 Crown Vics and Mercury's had 2bbl carburetors while Lincoln 5.0's got TBI fuel injection in 1980. !983-85 Ford's and Mercury's got TBI as well. In 1986 the whole platform went to SEFI which is modern sequential fuel injection, something GM didn't have on V8's until the LS. In 1991 Ford created the 4.6 SOHC V8 forthe Lincoln Town car, most people think it was created for the F150 but it was not and wasn't used in a truck until 1997. In 1992 the Crown Vic and Mercury got the 4.6 and all 3 cars retained it until they were discontinued in 2011. The 1979-1991 cars had the Ford AOD which was used in some F150's later in the 80's and early 90's. In 1992 it became the AODE which added computer controls to the transmission, around 1994 or maybe 1995 Ford went to the 4R70W transmission by that time most if not all F150's used the E4OD transmission. In late 2003 Ford introduced a stronger 4R75W transmission and it ran until 2011 along with the SOHC 2v 4.6 V8. There was the 2003-04 only Mercury Marauder as well which was a Grand Marquis with the cobra mustang 32v DOHC 4.6 V8 which made a whopping 305hp while the regular versions in the panther platform those years were between 220-239hp. Police Interceptors in later years made it to 250hp with a 129mph speed limiter because of the driveshaft. Removing the speed limiter one non PI cars is not recommended because the drive shaft isn't rated for speeds higher than the 108mph they are limited too. Regardless of what anyone may tell you there is not cop motor for the police interceptor the engine is stock, the suspension is beefier it is the same as the Town Car suspension. If you can find a civilian Crown Vic with the HPP "Handling and Performance Package" also offered on the Grand Marquis they have even better suspension. Any stock panther will out corner any post 1970 Mustang. They simply have better suspension. The one too have is the Crown Vic LX Sport or Grand Marquis LSE. I'm not sure on the Crown Vic but the Grand Marquis LSE was only made from 2001-2003 and less than 11,000 were made out of nearly 400,000 Grand Marquis'. They had a center console with a floor shift and every available option was standard. They are rumored to have the mustange 260hp tune even thoug they have the 2v 4.6 not the 3v in the Mustang. It is confirmed that they have the mustange torque converter. I had an '02 and it was definitely underrated with just a K&N cold air intake mine dyno'ed at 280hp, with a tune it was up to 320 which is more than a stock marauder. But really nothing is shared with an F150 except the engines from 1997-2010 and a few years of the transmission in the mid to late 80's and early 90's. The F150 also probably used the 8.8" rear diff as well but other than that there isn't any interchangeability. I've owned 8 of these cars from a 1983 Mark VI which is definitely the most elegant panther to a 2003 Town Car and I have been involved in several frame off restorations, engine swaps, 5 speed swaps, 1980's body to 2011 frame swaps and other crazy projects.

@@outspokengenius about the frame part: of course the frame is different but it's still a steel body on frame like the pickups and older cars, and the transmission could be slightly different but can be bolted on like a glove and be used on either or it's the same engine bell housing and the same engine (as an example) and anything from the early 2000s and 2010s is modern so it is (quite true) si that's a 70s (car set-up) in a modern version it's the newest you can't find today that will blend in with newer cars that's what I mean who cares if they haven't been made sin 2011 ive seen 2012s too...

Ok personally liked the square body 1987 LTD Crown Vic. The 92 PIs came standard with 210 horse. They went up to 250 at some point after. This video is confusing the standard Crown Vics with the police cars. And I don’t think the police vehicles came standard with aluminum wheels - steel all the way. The PIs did not come with 2-way radios.
