One of the best live bands and tracks. Another track from oslo spektrum farewell gig that’s perfection is Summer Moved On i hope you’ll take a look at that one. I’ve been an A-HA fan for 39 years now. I come from Scotland in the UK. A-HA are criminally underrated and unappreciated especially in the U.S. Thanks for reacting to A-HA. I hope to hear more of their music on your channel. Take care 😘🏴 ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️
"The Swing of Things (Live at the Sentrum Scene, Oslo, Norway, 3/17/1994)" is their most rocking live version, but anything from Live from South America is also really rocking
The album wasn't big in Uk but was a big success in European countries esp.Germany.so was their tour!Eurochart top 3. A great welcoming from fans old and new.
In America they were promoted as a teen boyband and the record label only wanted songs like Take On Me and that type of image, something that the guys in A-ha did not want. They did not want to be onesided branded like that.
US market is rather 'reserved" and predictably stereotyped compared to the more daring European one.Different culture.Just my logical perception to your discussion and your wondering about it.Cheers.Glad you loved it.Good taste.
Why compare them with any rock?Pop or other styles ain't sinful.Neverthless they can rock fine and kick a@@ when they play live.Eack time i attented their live gigs through the years they were proved to be a fab tight band and Morten a fantastic performer.
a-ha made the choice at the time not to continue with america and focus on Europe and Asia and South America. During the 90’s they played a 25 date tour of South America with a combined audience of over 3 million fans, including the famous 198,000 attendance at the rock in rio festival. They do regret not giving america more of their time in the 80’s.
They were told that to make it big in America they would have to invest much more than they had time for. They therefore opted out of America. Is it possible that they received bad guidance? I would think they would have got a bigger market if they had invested more there than they did. They had not needed to bet everything in the US as they were told. They had already broken through. America is a big country and of course they want as much as possible from an artist if they like it. But a-ha was not willing to give everything to America. They wanted to give some to Europe as well.
If you read about them, they pretty much chose NOT to focus on the US market after the second record wasn’t as huge as the first. Sucks for us, as we really missed out on some incredible tours. 😢 We didn’t even get the the Bond theme here, although I heard that was some type of payback because they wanted to release their version and not the Bond-y, version. Anyway, I will stop since my a-ha nerdiness is now on full display. 😂❤

The video for manhattan skyline was also banned for awhile after 9/11 as the final shot of the video is of a Norwegian language newspaper showing a destroyed manhattan. Magne said this at a gig in Dublin in 2001 , which I was at.
Listen to Baby Come On Over by Samantha Mumba! Released internationally Sept 10th 2001, marked the end of an era and is sort of an overlooked song, and it samples Ladies' Night by Kool & The Gang.
1. Absolutely for no reason, this reminded me of Benny Harvey. RIP, miss you big man. Gone but not forgotten. (ua-cam.com/video/RQzmTrlc4wA/v-deo.html) 2. Do you know that metal bands love to cover a-ha? Google for example Susperia or Atrocity 3. I would love to see your reaction to Sycamore Leaves (Live in Oslo, ua-cam.com/video/CpDY9e9BXHM/v-deo.html) 4. I would love to see your reaction to "Scoundrel Days" and "East of the Sun West of the Moon", studio versions 5. As far as change-ups are concerned, I wonder what you would say about some of their early stuff, flowing sweetly and delicately, and then, out of the blue breaking out into something stronger. You can find it in "Hunting High and Low", "Manhattan Skyline" or "The Sun Always Shines on TV". I don't think they have ever been a typical pop band. Also, try listening to their lyrics (e.g. "I've Been Losing You" or "Scoundrel Days"), their quite dark. 6. This particular song, Minor Earth, Major Sky, has a cool cover, by a Polish gothic rock band, Closterkeller. You might want ti have a listen: ua-cam.com/video/F7hIhvkB5hE/v-deo.html
The unfortunate thing about the American public, is, even to this day, for some reason, they are still controlled by crap marketing. a-ha are fantastic. What the American market's deal is, are, the labels. End of F'n story. It's money and nothing else.
❤ a-ha, most underrated band ever. Love them
Give him more a-ha! You know what to choose.

Agreed.

Great live version of MEMS... But the legendary a-ha live experience is the likes of Scoundrel Days Live in South America...
Oh man, I'll second that. Great live track never sounded better than the Live In South America set.

Grrrreeeeaaaat live performance!😎😎
I like the industrial “sounds” made by the instruments as an element in this performance.
Great band: they are great Musicians and Morten Harket has a unique Voice... listen to Nrk live in 1991 😉

Try Sycamore Leaves, A-ha at their rockiest!
Listen to Baby Come On Over by Samantha Mumba! Released internationally Sept 10th 2001, marked the end of an era and is sort of an overlooked song, and it samples Ladies' Night by Kool & The Gang.
Paul Weller ripped this of from Martha and the Vandellas - I'm ready for love.
