If you tag him with both hands it’s actually 2 outs and considered a double play, very high baseball IQ from the catcher
I’m really hoping that’s sarcasm
And since there were 2 outs, they get an out to start next inning!
@@tannergernenz3781 No its not sarcasm, its in the official rule book
@@ItsJacobyay do you have a link pls. Thx
@@tannergernenz3781 of course it's not. . It's for real. . Is this your 1st time watching?
Jomboy thought we wouldn't notice him switching his tiny face on several fans during the opening segment....BUT WE DID!
I was like what is that anomaly
Damn I didn't even notice😂
@just do it Damn I haven't heard the bomberman soundtrack in forever
eventually his face made it to Gary Sanchez lol
@Forcer360 lmao 0:01 - 0:27 pan left to right and you will see fans faces being replaced with jomboys face
Ump wanted to give Sanchez the benefit of the doubt because he literally couldn’t believe how bad of a tag attempt that was.
No one gonna talk about Jeff McNeil arguing that blatant strike at the end💀
He does that at least once a game. He is a big complainer
Was he arguing or was he just mad at himself? I mean, I've been mad at myself before for looking at strike 3.
@@derekobrien5481 could be!
It was a terrible frame so it looked outside
@@derekobrien5481 Both, kinda. I'm a Mets fan and he gets like this every night this season. But it's likely because he's pretty much having the worst year of his career. He needs a change of scenery, in my opinion.
Ump: "What did you do?"
Player: "I went for the head"
I understood that referance
you shouldve gone for the leg
Lol best movie ever
So does this mean we’re getting bro Kraken?
Funny because the home plate ump does have a passing resemblance to Josh Brolin/Thanos. Mostly the chin lol.
the face swap thing is hilarious and they're getting crazier 🤣
He was swapping faces during the intro! IN THE CROWD!
@@apollomacgregor6534 yeah, I got creeped out when I saw a face roaming around
As a former ump I have to say that with the throw being there so far ahead I would have assumed he got him too.
All umps would. Except Jerry Meals, of course.
the fact that gary is still catching after all these years boggles my mind.
They’re waiting for a Mariners prospect to pan out so they can fleece their favorite farm team
@@victorunger You do realize that the Yankees traded Sanchez to the Twins about a week before you posted that
@@alexh8613 Thank goodness they dealt him. Of all the Yankees, Gary Sanchez was my least favorite. A pure flake who couldn’t handle New York and forgot to do everything. He’s the Twins’s problem now. Good riddance.
@@cityhawk Hes actually been good for the Twins so far
Of course this happened during a Mets game, I swear to god everything weird this year has happened while they’re around
You should look at the run down between first and home from this year.

Yes, I can’t stand Sanchez. We need a different catcher.
Gary just does things that make you shake your head. Sometimes I wonder how he got to where he is today.
@@harpoon232 with his bat. Not his glove
He was afraid and literally got out of the way. Gary shouldn’t even be a AAA catcher.
But he can hit home runs when the pitcher throws lazy fastballs over the middle of the plate.
Double A would be a stretch....
An* AAA catcher but yes he's bad.
@@tdb4763 It's pronounced "triple A", not "ayyyayyyayy". Therefore "a triple A" is correct. Not "an triple A". If you're going to correct people, at least be right.
That interpretation of Gallo's reaction was spot on
Can't wait til the MLB reverses the rule on using camera phones from 2007 as the only sources of replays
You need glasses bro
There were plenty of better angles on this
What amazes me is this multi-billion-dollar sport seemingly refuses to put a few unmanned cameras pointed directly at home plate, static shot, running at 240fps. I see better slow-motion replays from literally _every other sport,_ where the ball is traveling much slower AND there are no games decided by "did this person touch this thing before this other person touched this other thing?"
@@daedalus_20v I see it clearly. I don't understand why you cant. Must be a millennial thing. I don't need triple 4k HD to see things. Foot, bag, glove, tag. It's all there in different colors. I grew up with black & white. I think my generation has better vision skills because of this. Not even trying to be insulting. I notice that kids today can't "hear or see" things unless it's constantly improved. I could see just fine 30 years ago & still don't like the newer stuff. Too much sound & fps makes it even harder to see imo.
@@ModernDayRenaissanceMan you clearly are trying to insult them. But yeah I think 1 view was definitely enough for this play
I laughed my ass off when he was ruled safe
I don't know baseball but it looked like he tagged him with his foot before he touches the base so does that count?
So do your legs connect directly to your back now? Or how does that work?
😭😭😭same I’m dying

Imagine being scared of contact as a catcher.
Even though now it can't happen.
And when you wear all that protective gear.
ua-cam.com/video/zgk__4I6hs8/v-deo.html
Catchers are not allowed to block the plate anymore. If they do the runner is called safe. So they are supposed to only tag the runner.
Silly new rules making it awkward for both runner and catcher. Runner can't run into catcher, to try and knock him down and the ball free but the catcher is not allowed to block the plate in any way so they are supposed to stand aside and tag them. Which means the runner is safe if the catcher blocks the plate but if the runner collides with the catch in theory he's called out...
So crap like this happens.
@@JasonPotapoff This rule doesn't apply for the catcher here. It's a judgement call and when they are this dead to rights, they usually just kind of slow down and accept they're out. With Gary moving, Villar essentially said fuck it and did a last second "slide" to get under the tag. Sanchez was afraid of the contact and should be embarrassed. If he gets run into on this play, which was going to happen, Villar is still out. Embarrassing. In the end, we can all just sit back and thank Buster Posey for never learning how to block the plate properly and ruin it for everyone with his bitchy manager forcing a rule change nobody wanted.
Jomboy literally is bringing me back into watching baseball after so many years of not paying attention to this sport.
The Catcher just got out of the way and let the runner slide into home
Thank you.

I was also screaming at the tv but it was laced with profanities.

🙏🏼🔥 Jomboy is a hero for people that don’t really watch baseball. Baseball is fun to watch but these break downs take baseball to another level.
I started chuckling about what kind of tag this was going to be the moment Jomboy said: "Gary Sanchez"...
Wish you'd do a lip read of Max Scherer cussing the ball before his windup. Dude is scary!
Yeah he can be scary, but he has a lot if passion for the sport.
Someday I’m gonna watch a baseball game so I can understand why it is I enjoy these Jomboy videos so much.
I'd still say that Pirates/Cubs game from earlier this summer holds the title for "worst tag attempt".
Rizzo's reaction to that was all of our reactions to that.
Nah that was the worst mental error I’ve ever seen, but the actual tagging part wasn’t that mechanically bad for the most part
Omg forgot about that !
But was an attempt made there?
@@TheSonicsean attempt was made but the pitcher threw it way too late for the catcher to have a decent chance to tag the runner scoring.
Can you do the ump that ejected the Ground crew
Figures it would be the Orioles. Even their ground crew can't get a W.

@@briankoontz1 I know I don't see them makeing the playoffs Any time soon.

3:41 I love the reactions that you gave Gary and Joey.😆
Pretty sure the guy at first trying to rundown the batter back to home plate only to miss the throw is the winner for worst tag attempt ever.
I was actually watching this game live and as soon as this play happened I knew JomBoy would be breaking it down.
I feel bad, Gary just needed a hug and he was rejected big time. He looks so sad.

Sanchez was clearly thinking (wrongly) that he had to get out of the baseline to “not block the plate.”
Once you have the ball, you’re allowed to “block the plate” but calls have happened where the catcher drops it so he doesn’t “have possession” and the runner is automatically scored.
MLB needs to clean up that rule
MLB needs to get rid of the stupid rule and go back the way it was played forever before posey ( and I like posey) had bad positioning and got himself injured
Jomboy's method of commentary makes me crack up so damn hard!
Dude this editing is legendary with his face flying through the crowd lol I almost missed it.
It’s been difficult being a Yankee fan this season
Jomboy is the GOAT
Whoever edits the beginning of these videos is a master.
"Instead he olé's him..." This video has turned me into a giggle machine lmao.
This is like the baseball version of turning the puck over in order to avoid being hit by an oncoming forechecker, resulting in a goal for the opposing team. I'm talking about the game of hockey, of course. Hey, no one ever said winning is easy. But you have to pay the price & do the little things in order to win.
Coming back to watch this in April 2022. And its still great. Looking forward to all the break downs this season. Lets go Jays!
I was waiting for this!!
He "olés" him is such a great description 😂
I watched game and I’m a Mets fan and I was so happy
How bout when you guys lost 5 games in a row after that and won’t make the playoffs again with a 200 plus Million payroll ? Haha sucks to suck nerd
When you got the ball and the runner is 15 feet from the base or plate, go meet him up the line. Would eliminate those acrobatic moves by a runner.
You can move up the line to meet him, but stay centered and don't run. If you get eager, mistakes happen. Stay under control and he's dead meat.
“He Olé’d him” lol I lost it with that one
In a softball game, as 3rd base coach I sent my 6'6" roommate Dave home, who I call the slowest non-injured teammate I've ever had. The throw beat him by a mile, Dave slid home, and the catcher tagged him up high after Dave had come to a complete stop. The ump called him out, but Dave's foot was already on home plate. I complained a little. The ump gave me a Mentos look and shrugged. We were winning by a lot, so it was more funny than frustrating.
nice send.
I thought this was going to be a case where the catcher tagged Villar's helmet, but the helmet was airborne and making 0 contact with his head.
In that case, would the runner be safe?
Gary just didn't want to end up on the IL so he avoided the collision.
He is better resring than in the lineup dudes costing us game left right centre😔
I noticed the faces in the intro- I like that from you Jomboy lad. Big SF Giants fan from England!
Jomboy this is like my thousandth time requesting a breakdown of an bald eagle attacking James Paxton during the anthem!
Can't wait till we get this guy off the team. He's one of the few genuinely lazy players I've watched in the majors.
I don’t know why the Twins traded for him, but I’m glad they did.
Sanchez had enough time to take a step or two forward. He looked scared even though trucking him would probably get a guy suspended like he got caught juicing.
Jomboy possessing half the stadium is priceless

Sanchez never should have seen the field for the rest of the game, but Boone is too afraid of hurting Gary's delicate psyche
Who’s here after we traded gary
I watched this game on SNY. Gary Cohen commented that Villar should be safe but video replay may not overturn the call on the field. Then Keith Hernandez said "What are you thinking, Gary?" It took me a moment to figure out which Gary he was talking about.
hernandez roasted his ass. i have rewatched keith ripping sanchez at least 20 times. meanwhile the yankees announcers will never say anything bad about this lazy pos because the yankees front office coddles him.
Home plate umpire has eyes on catchers glove and runners head instead of the plate. Definitely safe. Thanks Jomboy for making these videos!
The catcher’s foot makes contact with the runner’s foot before he hits home. Would that make him out? Sorry, I’m a soccer guy 😅
no
Nope. In this instance the catcher has to tag the runner with the ball itself or with the hand/mitt that's holding the ball.
Had this been a 'force play' - in other words, if Villar had started the play on third base with runners on first and second as well - the catcher would only have had to touch the base once he had the ball. But in a non-force situation the runner has to be tagged by the ball or by the hand that's holding the ball.
@@Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co What about the new rules say you can't run into the catcher?
@@Powdermonkey99 The runner has right of way in the lane, unless there's a defender holding the ball, in the old rules it didn't matter so you could slide into the catcher and try and knock him out of the way, the new rules count that as inference now.
No. The only way for the runner to be out is if the catcher steps to the side and then double fist punches him in the head while holding the ball. Gary Sanchez just following proper technique.
Baez creates a confusion field every time he's at bat
Yeah umpiring has gotten worse since replay was added, it's like they know they can blow the call cause it will be reviewed and what's even sadder is that they still blow the calls after review.
"god, i really wish we had held onto gary instead of trading him to minnesota" - no yankees fan ever

editing game SUPER strong in this one, kudos.
This may be the moment that Sanchez lands himself permanently on my shit list. I honestly don't think there's anything he can do to redeem himself now.
he hasn't been on your shit list for years?
Unless he makes up for it in October
@@Blackout.1644 that's what I'm saying, I don't even think it matters anymore. He'd have to single-handedly carry the team, making unbelievable defensive game-saving plays and hitting 10 homers a game. I'm over him. I tried.
Ofc baez was in the play. He is any play involving this stuff ever, no matter his role
It's plays like this that perfectly define why the only baseball I've watched in the past 20.5 years has been on the Jomboy UA-cam channel.
Well I mean, you're looking at one of the absolute worst defensive catchers in all of baseball, not what the average game looks like. He's 55th out of 60 catchers at framing pitches and 35th of 54 in defense.
Every sport is a waste of time if you truly want to look at it that way though. Most football and baseball games have under 20 min of "game action" while hockey and Bball are under an hour worth. I wouldn't not watch because of a bad play here and there though, that's complete nonsense.
@@173jaSon371 But here's the thing. An average NBA game only lasts 2:11. MLS games are generally about 2 hours. But baseball is about 3:15 this year. And unlike other sports where there's action most of the time, there's a whole bunch of standing around in baseball. So one is MUCH less tolerant of lazy or stupid play, because a player is called upon to do something that's actually physical a tiny percentage of the time he's on the field. Failure to run out a simple ground ball or popup, forgetting how many outs there are, and stupid plays like this catcher made are quite frequent, considering the millions these guys are paid to stand around all night. (I agree about football though. I only watch highlights.)
The old Olè slide, gets everytime!!
If you look up the word “soft” in Webster’s, Urban or any dictionary for that matter, you’ll see a picture of Gary Sánchez
Also the word dumb!
Did his right foot hit the runner's right foot before the base?
yes but doesn't matter
@@jeezuschryst gotta be tagged by the glove with the ball in it?
More importantly, the runner’s right foot made contact with home plate before Gary hit the runner’s right eye.
I appreciate even being a Yanks fan, you still call em' like you see em'. We need a little impartiality in today's world.
The way Villar got bonked in the head is too funny
I thought the catcher had to leave a lane to the plate.... Maybe that's not the rule though?
If he has the ball he doesn’t I think
You have to leave a lane as long as you don’t have the ball. With the ball in your glove you can just block the plate all you want.
That's only before he gets the ball.
A lane is any pathway which includes between the legs. As long as there is a direct "line of sight" from the runner to the plate then he has access. Once the catcher has the ball in hand, though, the catcher can block the plate.
To be fair Gary is a really bad ball handling catcher, so was it really a bad send from 3rd when the runner had at least a 50/50 shot lol
I love that Sal Licata said he is not El Kraken, but rather, El Matador.
Baseball is a game of history and accurate, comparable records and stats. I remember my grandpa telling tales of Ted Williams homers and Ricky Henderson steals being reviewed and overturned by microsecond hi-def replay. So much history, so many memories.
I like the new rule it’s makes a lot of sense to me. The guy…with no padding or armor…is not allowed to run over the guy…with padding and armor.
Oh yeah, you are talking about the rule about the guy running at full speed expecting a collision towards the other standing still guy whose focus was on catching the ball and not getting hit becuase nobody told him he was expected to break 5 bones by the hand of a neanderthal who could simply slide 50cm to either side. I totally don't understand why that is a rule
@@diegoarranz7812 yeah that rule where the participants make millions every single year. Get baited son
No I haven’t even watched it yet but I’m 2nd ok

One doesn’t experience self-transcendence, the illusion of self only dissipates🎈
At 1:05 it looks like the catcher is blowing diarrhea all over home plate.
Kevin Kiermaier nearly pulled off the exact same stunt last night after getting a overly late stop sign and just taking his chances at the plate. Out by fraction this time, but I gotta feel like he saw this play and had it in the back of his mind when he went to slide.
It was a mistake watching this video at 5am after I had just woken up because that face swapping in the into had me questioning whether or not I was still sleeping and having some kind of very trippy dream
I guess I’ve been living under a rock for the past 7 years since I didn’t know they changed the rule about running into the catcher in 2014.
That double space before breakdown in the title kinda drove me insane. Ima go scream at a tree now
