Expanding The Workshop! | Part 1 | Container Storage

  • Опубліковано 16 чер 2022
  • It has been long overdue and we have FINALLY started our workshop expansion! We need to move and organize all our consumables and materials from the workshop into our new 40’ foot shipping container but first we install and setup the pallet racking in the container. We also move our old 40ft container and position it in place ready for the “igloo” container shelter for our outdoor fabrication area. We have also sold and move our LZMT Lathe to make more space in the workshop. We complete the clearing and moving of the workshop pallet racks to gain another 120m2 of space and show a few vintage old school machines that we have been storing!

I set 2 pair of containers like you did for a guy, he must have asked me 20 times if the width was right. I had a gauge cord which we had marked out and checked it loads of times before the crane came...he wanted to check it as the crane was pulling out so I held the cord 18" short and he thought they were too wide and nearly passed out lol

    Talking about 'Thumpers'.
I left school at fifteen in the early sixties and had a year to wait before starting my apprenticeship. I spent some of that year working at AC Delco in my home town of Dunstable in the UK. I worked on a line producing distributors which was adjacent to the press shop. It never ceased to amaze me the speed at which these presses produced components and the noise they made doing it. From a rhythmic thumping every few seconds on the larger presses to smaller ones that rattled away like machine guns. I would imagine many of the operators suffered serious hearing damage from the relentless noise.
Great video, can't wait to see the next one.

Love how efficient you work. No screwing around or damaging stuff moving. I also identify with your obsession on how you open stuff with the knife. I hate when people rip open packaging and then realize they got the wrong item or want to make an exchange and it becomes a problem to return because of destroyed packing.

Great to see some John Heine presses. I worked on these during my apprenticeship. We would service them every 12months and not have to touch them again till next service. Such a simple machine but an absolute work horse

The nicest condition container I've ever seen ! Suggest when placing shelf supports, don't put them right at the ends, bring them in a little will give better support. (Think like bessel points, a bit different but similar idea). If my maths is right, around 14% of the total shelf width from the end is optimal if you have a central support as well as one either end as shown.

The new shipping container will make your storage solutions so much easier. I noticed Tomey had the same set up at their factory. Great idea because it got all the finish parts, bearings and consumables out of the workshop dirty environment. Cheers 🍻 Aaron

You could hang an single rail overhead crane with a chain hoist in the middle of the container. This way you can transport heavier stuff from back to front. Then a removable traverse between the shelfs so you can easyly slide material in and out of the shelf itself. So you could place pre produced materials like eyes or struds in and out by yourself without help.
The loading traverse only needs to be about 300mm wide with heavy duty rollers like they use for conveor belts.
    Good Day

Have done this. I've a heck of an over sized crane salvaged from a clients factory turned house. He wanted to scrap it, i bought it, something like 300 tons, i barely use a third of that power, but it's extremely useful whenever we unload material off and on transports. Massive fluid time saver for labour in that respect. Hung between four stacked two and two containers to maximize the volume. All the shipping drivers love us because we take the least amount of time to move shit off their trucks and the least amount of work too. :))

We’re just about to put 2 x 20 foot containers in on a friends property up near Bundaberg. One thing we’re going to do is put in a small solar powered ventilation pump to draw air through to keep it fresh inside and get rid of the stink that they develop. Really like the shelving you guys put in.
