Chris, these are golden. They're so good that i moved up a level just by watching the fireball videos and working on it Could you please upload a video where one can get at using DPs? Maybe how to use the training stage to simulate online matches and maybe stuff like buffering a dp after a fireball. My super gold ryu says thanks
I am super diamond at the moment, when I was at diamond I realized most of my losing game are because of my weak anti air (yep, scrubs love to rely on jump ins and i was one of them). I would like to share how I practice my dps with you and I hope this can help you. 1. I go to the training mode and set dummy to jump forward with a button that is able to cross up. For example, ryu. Yep, all you have to do first is to get use of the motions of dps. You have to do your dps as quick as possible and think it like a single button (so you have more time to react and don't need to 'buffer a dp after a fireball', or focus too much on dps) 2. You may spend as long as you like in training mode until you are confident with your dps. I suggest practice it everyday if you really want to be a very good player. Try to mixup your movement with the dummy (you can walk forward and do cross cut, do whiff buttons then dps etc. Just focus on your dps' muscle memory, dw about the dummy's same jumping timings). 3. I found it is hard for me to dp while my opponent is neutral jumping to dodge a throw, I simulate the situation and practice a lot with it (for people love to neutral jump, pretty much spam it when you put them in the corners) 4. If you are confident with your dp and you can input it almost like a single button, I would suggest you can simulate online matches with level 8 cpu, if you don't want to do this online. Pick G, cammy, or kage (they like to jump quite randomly) and force yourself to not jump at all. This way you can practice your dps and ground game at the same time (don't cheese them, treat them like a real opponent, you may realize it is not easy to win while staying on the ground all the time, their whiff punish and spacing are just unreal sometimes, but this may help you a lot with your neutrals). It is important to not focusing at the air too much (tunnel version for too long would fk you up on the thing you don't expect). With your enough practice of dps, you should just react to the jump ins and dps like inputting a single button (again, you have to be very quick to input your dps so you have more time to react) I hope this is helpful and good luck my friend :)
Is there some sort of way to block those ambiguous jump cross ups? The ones sometimes stay in front and sometimes crosses up. I see some people never get hit by that. It looks almost like both options front and cross up are being covered. Is that just me or is there an actual way?
You picked Bison though who has no means of defending against jump in, cross-ups and close neutral jumps. How do you fight against a character, say like Akuma or Birdie, who have instant reliable late anti-airs?
Hi Chris, quick question. i live on the east coast, i've been a tekken player for years now. I decided to switch to sf, and i really would like to play tournaments for it and see if it leads anywhere. do u give lessons?
Chris, the videos are good, but you should repeat yourself less. For example, you said at least 4 times what focusing on the ground game means and what are the threats (dash throw, dash HK) etc. It's a video, don't forget that of we miss a thing we can play it back. Good video
I repeat because I want it to stick in your head and it's part of my teaching method to show what I'm saying over and over again. It's part of the lesson and there is a reason why I'm doing it. Thnx for your input though.
@@christatarian2504 I understand, no problem mate. It's just that it makes it a little bit more difficult to watch. The videos are very good anyway, I'm just nitpicking. Keep up with the good work
Agreed! But i like it, it reminds me old school trainers who prepared well their lessons with a couple of key points to follow. And i like the voice of Chris T, it’s relaxing 😌
Yikes. That's how you know SF is bad now. We are now telling people to jump at the pro level. :-( "If you don't jump its a solid...dry...solid...ground game" IF SF5 had a good ground game and was not bad, no one would need or want to jump my dude.
Jumping has always been an integral part of SF. That is how 2d fighting games work. 2d fighting games are balanced around your ability to focus on different aspects of the game. So jumping is an important part of “one of the things to look for”. If we completely removed jumping as a core mechanic in a 2d fighting game, we would likely need to add something to substitute that jump mechanic. Something risky that leads to high damage. You have to jump with a purpose in my mind, otherwise you just lose. It has always been like that, SFV is not any different from other SF’s in that regard.
This comment is stupid. Jump-ins have always be part of SF gameplay. You shouldn't rely too much on them, but they're part of the gameplay as the way to do the biggest damage. What SF exactly are you refering where people never jump ? SF3 where you can jump and air parry an anti-air, and where Yun can dive kick you to mess up your timing ? SF4 aka dive kick land with Cammy, Rufus, Yang, Seth, Yun, Zangief with the short jump, Viper and Ibuki with the super jumps, Fuerte with the run jumps, One with the air dashes etc ? SF ex + where you can jump and air activate excel mode (which is invicible on activation) ? SF Alpha, where you can litteraly block IN THE AIR ? Tell me, which SF exactly you're taking about ? The same game where Tokido is so good at while his name literally means that "I jump a lot" ? Pro players do jump sometimes, in every SF, the only difference is that their jump is calculated, based on a solid ground game and conditioning. Not like the average joe. They jump a lot less, but they do.
Nice way to reveal you don't know what you're talking about. Try never jumping against strong fireball characters back in any SF2 of your choice. You'll have lots of fun.
Lol somehow I feel like this dude just started sf with sfv and wanted to look good by talking like a veteran player and started criticizing jump ins without knowing its importance.XD
