  • The 77W is equipped with the GE90-115B of General Electric, which is so far the most powerful civilian jet engine with 519 kN thrust. In my opinion the best engine spool-up sound of all airplanes! What do you think?

    In the first step the engine lets out a wail. In the second step a few seconds later the wail turns into a scream. As the engine screams and the titanium blades turn in a frenzy, violent wind starts to flow through the nacelle pushing against the blades and hundreds of tons of metal start to lurch forward..

    One question, At 0:06, Why do the engines usaully sound like that for a few seconds then go to full thrust?

    • @zzyzxyz5419
      @zzyzxyz5419 8 років тому +14

      +JpGaming The pilots first throttle up to about 40% or so (depending on the aircraft type) before 100% to give the engines time to settle before engaging the autothrottle/fullthrottle. This is done to wait for the gauges to stabilize and ensure that both engines are producing nearly the same power output, and then engage the TO/GA
      (takeoff/go-around) switch.

      They also followed a procedure similar to this (like I said it varies with aircraft type) except they had the added fun of turning on the afterburners during takeoff :)

    • @TheXcaliber223
      @TheXcaliber223 8 років тому +6

      Concorde throttles are cross controlled by FADEC computers so when the captain slammed the throttles forward it sent a signal to spool each engine up as quickly and symmetrically as possible.

    Right before TOGA thrust on the last a/c we see HUGE rudder movements. Curious why?

    • @DUSAviation
      @DUSAviation  7 років тому

      The pilot can hold the airplane on the centerline with the rudder or he had to make some adjustments to line up the plane straight. But thats only a guess, the reason could also be another.

    • @toneale
      @toneale 7 років тому

      AC of that size use a tiller to steer at low speeds. The rudder should not be deflected as a result. The rudder movement I described is significant - I don't believe it had anything to do with steering the AC.

      Most of the force comes from the air exiting through the largest/outer ring. The exhaust from the turbine comes out through the inner ring which also provides thrust as well as spinning the big fan at the front that forces air through the outer ring.
