You all have been asking for it, so here it is - the home tour of my 2000 sq ft industrial Chicago loft. I will miss this loft a lot -- it was my dream home. But as you all know, I'm super excited to be moving on to the abandoned building renovation. So here is the first and last loft tour of my old home. The loft is two bedrooms and three baths, and features exposed brick and timber beams - a true Chicago-style loft.

“Did you know that mowing your lawn can even make your house look bigger?” 😂
It's true my man
That has got to be my favorite manscaping ad so far.
In a way this is true
Why did I think this was a house fact
Lol!
Youre not a wannabe artist man! You are an artist, art comes in different forms and you are an artist in your own right! the arctic erosion table looks amazing and that in itself is a masterpiece! Love from England my friend!
Thank you -- you are too kind! :)
Modustrial Maker keep on doing what you’re doing man! I’m an avid DIY lover and DIY combined with your entertainer persona really makes your videos unique! I will continue to watch these series and look forward to the end result!
I find it interesting how often people try to compliment a craftsman by insisting that they are an artist. I don’t know if you’re an artist or not, but you’re certainly an accomplished craftsman. In my mind, that’s just as much (if not more) of a compliment than saying you’re an artist. A quality piece of craftsmanship may last and inspire much longer than a poorly crafted work of art.
Jeffrey Nerdin craft is art, it’s just the most commonly commissioned form of art. Art can have function too, just so often pretension supersedes all else and art has to be some bull crap like a cow cut in half in formaldehyde. Form over substance. Just as film and cinema is art that has function so too is all craft, at least in my opinion.

The man said he's had his cat for 17 years 🥺🥺
what a wonderful looking elder cat
Thank you! 😺
If I lived in this loft, I'd look younger too! That cat don't wanna go ANYWHERE, especially die. HAHA
Anyone else admire this guy walking us through his process of downsizing his life to chase his dream?
Thanks!
It’s a beautiful thing to see.
''Downsizing'' lol. It's nothing close to downsizing when you're moving from something way too big for a single (or a couple) person to something way too big. The project is cool, sure! It ain't downsizing though lol.
SO CLEAN!! This makes me even more hype to see what you do with the new building!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thanks Mike!
I could loan him my kids for a week or two if he is looking for that "lived in" look 😂
The loft looks insane, but am I the only one who was more impressed by how well he advertised that “lawn mower” 😂
Lol, do my best 😜
*sigh* No, no you're not. I completely agree.
You did a great job "trimming" this video during editing to be nice and clean.😆
Interesting that you mow your friends lawn then.... 🧐🤣
Seen loads of ads for it....... defo going to buy one now 🤣
Damn...Ma man just flexing here with his building skills and interior design skills...can't wait to see the new building.
Right? I just thought he was a normal maker. Didn't realize he was a richy rich.
@@TheM750 He was a high power attorney.
@@RenierRivas That makes sense, they make bank.
Ah to be rich
@@dancingtortugha1356 I mean, he worked for it. I don't want my comment to be taken as a slight against him in that regard.
It does make what he's doing now a lot easier though, lol.
Fantastic. But I think the abandoned one will be even better! Way to go brother.
You looked depressed when you said you chose to leave the loft because of work-life imbalance. From what I know, you work or used to work for a large law firm in Chicago. I hope that your law firm is a happy exception, but many large law firms overwork and mistreat people, creating high levels of stress. My husband and I are both attorneys. We both used to work for and with real dickweeds. My husband made hundreds of millions for said dickweeds and got thousands out of that. Seeing all that, I went ahead and created him his own law firm. As makers, I believe that we can make anything, including our businesses. He can now work from anywhere in the world and choose where to work, whether to work, and how much of work to do. He has beautiful offices in DC, that I also made for him. Perhaps that path would also work for you, and then you would not need to choose between your work, your home, and your dreams, because they can all be in the same place :) I hope this helps and best of luck to you! ♥ You are a very talented person.
I worked in a patent law firm as a clerk when I was in my 20's I stopped eating almost entirely and lost 20 pounds working there just from being completely stressed out. The attorney I use to work under would publicly humiliate his underlings in front of the entire office if he found the smallest of errors, his thought process being that they 'would never make that mistake again'. It was a horrible place to work and left me with a permanent distrust and dislike of anything having to do with lawyers or law firms.
I see your point but most people tend to work even harder when they work for themselves, since my dad create his own business he works even on the weekend , life/work balance is a mindset

You have had a 17 year old cat this whole time and you have been holding out on us. I feel betrayed. Please more cat content.
agreed.
Fun fact, he really cares about his cat, as he invested 500 on a litter robot 3 litter box, I've got the grey one. Makes cats litters easy maintenance and makes sure the cats always have a clean litter
@@PeinTech Yeah, I noticed! He is also so loving with the kitty :3 that is why we want more cat content :)
that cat is older then me O_O
Right!?
Regardless of who owns the building, It will ALWAYS be "The Sears Tower"
never heard anyone from Chicago say otherwise.
That was an extraordinary home! However, your skill made it that way and you aren’t leaving that skill behind. I’m excited (and jealous) for your new place. I’ll be watching!
Thanks Eric!
I made the same decision with my working career a few years back, I took a major income decrease along with a big decrease in hours spent working. I have never felt more happy in my life. The best thing, is being with my kids and actually watching them grow up. I'm really happy for you!
Thanks Nick!
Even though that was one of the coolest apartments ive ever seen. I dont doubt the new one gonna be atleast as cool if not more!
I love how he scooped up his cat 😂 Also the cat is adorable 🥰
Ikr! I loved his cat also nice profile pic lol
This apartment loft looks AMAZING. WOW 🤩

Fix your algorithm dude
Damn UA-cam noticed

Algorithm..... fix it please
The cat made this video infinitely better, thanks so much for this video!
Video is 20 minutes long and it came out 5 minutes ago 🤔🤔🤔
thanks! (from me and Karma cat) 🐱🐱
I feel like quirky in reference to bathrooms just means it doesn't come with two toilets that face one another...
lol, love it!

I like when someone who has put a lot of effort into a house give a house tour when they are about to leave it. It shows what they have done and accomplished and what they would want to do better. Thank you
Best sponsor ad I think I’ve ever seen! 😂 Great job!
This made me chuckle
wow, thanks!
Agree, that was so good. I'm definately checking the product link for my better half.
Haha, I agree!!😅
agreed . HAAHAHAHA
You'll be able to get everything done in the abandoned building within a couple months, right! I'm pretty excited to see how that turns out.
maybe a bit longer ;). but either way, its gonna be fun!

I’ve never been so happy to find this gem of a channel. Such substance. I love it all and I have been binge watching all of your content for 3 hours now. Dude, you have some ridiculous potential. Love your vids, love your content, and love your personality!!!
14:50 the true moment we realize what's it's like to leave something behind. It's very hard to leave the memories behind, but don't allow it to slow you down
Seeing all this projects in your current loft makes me feel excited knowing a new building will be filled with future projects!
How does this not have more views what the heck. Everything is so high quality, on par with Matt from OffTheRanch and his abandoned mansion project.
Glad to see I'm not the only one following that series!
dale0104 no yeah that’s partly (small part) of how his channel has blown up. It was growing fast before that, but everyone of the videos in that series was anticipated and very high on views.
Actualy Matt is filming only updates, great project but we cant se nothing, shame
mitrovic slobodan yeah I noticed that. He didn’t used to do that though, in the beginning he showed a lot of helping out and doing things himself, like tearing down the stucco with his jackhammer, or moving all the dirt filler around the house with the bobcat. Now it just is a bunch of talking and a few time lapses.
When I posted this he was still doing some work on it.
Damn dude, the sit down session explaining why you’re moving and leaving your old life, building your new and better life was very personal. Thank you for sharing and for reaching out to all of us and sharing some really real advice to us. I’m definitely glad I found you on here, I’m watching a man of passion create. Peace!
"Money can't buy happiness". I'd be so much happier when I can afford to move out of my 1 bedroom 500sq foot flat in a shit area.
For real, this guy and his 950000 house and i cant even afford my rent lol
courtnry salamone fr
Money alone* cant buy happiness. A base income which provides the base necessities is vital, but money alone will not fulfill you. Not having money, however, will ruin you.
Theirs not a single problem in my life that wouldn't be solved by money right now
Money can't buy happiness is something only rich people say lmao. Now, I'm as minimalist and anti-consumption as can be, and I live on about €1200 quite alright, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's very comfortable. A bit more would enable me to put more savings aside which would take some worry away, I'd be able to buy a car, which again, even though I manage fine without would just be more comfortably, especially with things like taking my cats to the vet, and I'd be able to afford something a bit bigger than my 35m2 social housing apartment, which would be better for my cats also. Not worrying about unexpected expenses, being able to buy better quality stuff that lasts longer, a car and a bigger place for my cats isn't _happiness,_ but it sure as shit would make life a whole lot more comfortably and relaxed.
Dude, I love the wood frame around the Nanoleaf! Your design is seriously on point.
where in the world do you see the nanoleaf with a wood frame?
@@TheOver18years 16:12 oh his right side at the back
That was an incredibly well designed loft, congrats to the new owner who got such a gem of a place. You're really talented, managed to pull off modern industrial while adding warmth and a homely feel to the place. Great talk on what we perceive as life goals and what we truly want in life, I'm pretty sure a lot of people have been thinking about this during these trying times and maybe changing their goals a bit, I sure did. Anyway, congrats on the new place once again and excited to watch what you come up with at the new building.
Thanks Danilo!
It's a good move. Having a building with no restrictions is gonna be a good investment for you and your family. Honestly I just binged your series. And it was fun to watch it all in a good sitting.
Something about where you’re coming from makes this whole thing so much more inspiring. Can’t wait to see what you do with the new place!
oh my gawd im just 1 minute into the video and i swear this is my dream place! this is literally what my pinterest board looks like. the industrial vibe is killing me.
Thanks Nicole! Hopefully the new place will elicit the same reaction when its done :)
Now you left me wondering wether you'll actually use the lawnmover unlike the hart tools😉
lol 😆 its my friends, and he's actually getting some of the Hart Tools since he's right in their target market (a homeowner who needs tools on hand for use 2 or 3x per month).
good, I thought it was just me who noticed
Can’t wait to see more of the new building Reno’s! You’re living my dream!
Thank you!
First time here. Man you're a one of a kind. Wishing you luck and faith wherever life takes you.
It's inspiring to see someone take a leap like this to make their life even more amazing! Congratulations!
I totally agree with you. Huge huge leap. 👏
thank you!
@@ambercrystal419 thanks!
I found your channel a few months ago and have been hooked on your artistry and vision. Today you elevated your status exponentially by showing your love for your 17-year-old cat. Thanks for your always-inspiring content.
I think there's a lot to learn from your realization about how working a job you don't like to pay for the cool home in the cool place that you keep making cooler is really more about turning what you liked about your identity before hand, like making great spaces for people to hang out in, and get rid of the intermediary steps.
Mike, your chat on why you're leaving your dream loft and why you left your well paying job to chase your passion and the real you is so inspiring. Thank you. I'll be taking it on board and hope to do the same one day!
Thanks Kiara!
Good damn it... That "lawnmower"-Commercial is the (s)hit! Please keep that sponsor!
Here, have my thumbs up!
I'm so glad you did this Mike - it was like a walk down memory lane seeing all of the builds and it was cool seeing some of the stuff you did that was never on UA-cam! I am so pumped for you and the next chapter (and selfishly all the new projects that are coming from the new place)! I am so happy you couldn't not do it!
Always enjoy sharing other peoples' ideas of what works and what doesnt in architectural and interior design. One of these days i wont be a caregiver and i will move out of NY and have my own life back. But in the meantime love living vicariously thru your journey. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Bryan! I'm pulling for you to reach your goals too!
Man, this year changed my life. I spent more time on the road this year than ever before. When you were talking about leaving your “identity” to pursue what really makes you happy.. that hit home. Excited for you in your journey, as mine begins to unfold.
I'm surprised this place "only" costs $950K. That's a lot of house and location for that price in relation to what you'd get in the northeast for similar. Not that it's cheap. I'm guessing you had to gross around $220K/yr to afford it assuming you've been living alone.
I live near Vancouver, where a place like this would be at least $2M, so I was kinda surprised at the $950K price as well. I suppose there is the exchange rate and the dip in the market, but still …
Chicago is a much cheaper city than NYC/BOS/LA/DC/SF/SEA.
Jonathon VS where I live this would cost about 250k😂
It's ChiTown! A person could offer to give me that loft and I would still refuse it. Who in their right mind would want to live in one of the top 3 CESSPOOL cities of North America!?
@@-D-W someone who's not so stupid as to believe everything they see on TV? Every large city has good and bad areas and Chicago is no different.

Unrelated to the build, but a real question: Now that you're on your own, how are you handling health insurance? I know several self-employed folks and that single issue surprisingly turns out to be a sizable burden.
It's definitely a sizable burden....I'm just paying for it, not much else you can do 🤷♂️
We did the same thing with early retirement. Just save and allocate enough money for the health insurance till 65.
That was super nice, I really love how u learned from your own results with the projects. Good luck with the move and your new place! Changes are always good
Looks really good. Love all the personal touches on the furniture. Just lovely. You have accomplished a lot since the roof repaired. Awesome out door space. Cool kitty too.
Thanks!!
Hey Mike, I am speechless, your current apartment is already amazing, you can already guess what you are going to conjure up in your new house. I am curious!
Massive respect for following your dreams. Money and possessions aren't everything , and from what I've seen of your channel down the years you'll make the new place every bit as cool and special as the loft. Good luck.
Solid Tour! Happy to see the next leg of your journey!
Thanks brother!
I rarely exclaim when watching UA-cam but when I saw your apartment I went “wowwwwwwwwww!”! The new one is going to be amazing too.
Great "Manscaping" sponsor vid! Made me laugh out loud with all the facts!
I really respect the growth in recognizing that paying for that house and the work you had to do to support that wasn't really how you wanted to spend your life.
You did an amazing reno on this building. Happy for you that you moved on to fully embrace the artistry in you. It really is a blessing. Your talent knows no bounds. Wishing you all the success and happiness in your new endeavours. A Canadian fan.
Looks sick. Hopefully the new building will be even better
The reasons you gave about leaving the loft resonates with me. Life isn't really about materialistic acquisitions. Hope you find your dreams and real happiness in the new place.
Can't wait to see how the new place comes together! Congrats on going for your dreams & what makes you happy!!!
I started watching this series mildly worried that you'd be in over your head monetarily. But god darn, those worries were totally unwarranted. Excited to see what's next.
Me too, When he talked about selling his loft I figured he meant a pretty regular standard 2-3k a month high rise apartment brb almost 1m actual real multi level loft guess he won't be struggling with the building.
Man, you were right that loft was right in the middle of city life. It was a great place, but I'm sure your new place will be awesome as well. Good luck on your new life adventure.
A loft like this makes me even more hyped for the next episodes of the new bldg. renovation. I CANT WAIT OMFG CORONA PLS END NOW.
@Detective Halverson okay, firstly no its not, secondly, this virus according to experts, has a backbone nkt of a lab generated virus but that of evolution. Which explains why it evolves fast. Just stop speculating you dumb prick. Just a few google and biology might help
@Detective Halverson your point?
You are 100% an artist. As a maker myself (programming and electronics side) I can say for certain that for me, function precedes form. It takes a special kind of maker to not be satisfied until you have both, and you execute it perfectly!
Your furniture projects are durable AND look good. I love the art you make.
Thank you! 🙏
Great video playlist on the abandoned building. I just came across your channel this evening and have really enjoyed then so far. I kinda dig the beachy theme bathroom, so when you do number 2 it feels like you're in Havana at luxury resort but with the comfort of having your own throne
I see this for the first time and hear your story and I must admit that when you no longer feel good about what you are doing and you have the guts to change it, you are in my eyes a real man with brains and balls
Dude! What a gem of a place you had. I'm sure you"ll never want to leave the new one. I'm late to the party on your channel but I caught the beginning of the renovation. Your style will make that abandoned reno a show stopper!

I really enjoyed your commentary on the "why?" of your move. I bought a tiny apartment (55 sq mtr) in a medieval village in Italy. Having it paid for means I can retire with a minimal pension. So worth it.

Thanks Tanner!
Good on ya for being honest about pursuing happiness and fulfillment over materialistic things. Appreciate you sharing the process and transition to the new digs. Hoping the best for ya!
Congrats on escaping law. I knew being a partner at a big firm wasn’t for me when a partner (who had no children) told me she expected me to be willing to cancel a family vacation to be there for work if she needed me. I’ve managed to find a good place as in-house general counsel, but if I had it to do all over again, I choose something more creative or technical over law school. Hope you’re immensely happy in the new place.
Sadly, that's par for the course...glad you found your way to a more balanced job!
Modustrial Maker - Thanks. The beauty is that my current job, especially with Covid, allows me more time to make things, like the tiny house/girl cave that I’m currently building in our back yard with my 14 year old daughter. That’s happiness.
Enjoyed the loft tour and love the re-prioritization. Just bought my first place in Des Plaines and have done a lot of the basics, but soon I'm going to be able to do more of the "fun and creative" projects, several inspired by your channel. I need floating shelves and thinking of epoxy. I ripped all the awful tile off my fireplace and thinking a faux concrete finish. I've never built forms, so that will be a new experience, but I know to buy a fondant ball tool!
Bruh, I am from Arlington and just bought a place in bartlett. Cheers! I'm in the same position as you done a lot of the basic stuff but looking forward to the more so fun and creative projects. Definitely, Inspiring to watch this gentleman videos for ideas and such also cool he's local like us!
What a gorgeous loft. So many cool features… But love the white coffee table, the blue and green painting in the living room, the patio on the roof… And of course, your cat.
